We bought our package 7 nights in a Preferred Club Junior Suite Ocean Front with Private Pool through Secret Escapes, where the hotel was advertised as new. It was far from this and as mentioned in other reviews it showed its age in places.

Negatives - A/C in bedroom made the room feel damp including bedding and clothes, decor showing age in parts of the main hotel. Lots of steps (so not the place to go if you struggle walking or are disabled in any way)

Positives - Multiple restaurants to choose from for day time snacks through to evening meals. Ranging from French, Mexican, Italian to Asian, there's even a coffee shop! Very friendly, helpful staff. Beach cleaned daily (beach is public, but hotel maintained their section) Entertainment laid on in the evening. Multiple pools including an adults only one away from the main pools with its own bar and pool side service. Gym and Spa.

General comments - whilst there are multiple restaurants they aren't all open every day, which reduced choice. Getting into some actually proved impossible unless you wanted to eat at 11pm. Food could be a bit hit and miss, the Mexican restaurant was particularly disappointing.

Our package allowed us access to an exclusive bar, which was a lovely place to unwind, however it was very limited on seating. More seats could easily be added without making the place cramped.

Well worth spending a few dollars in the spa. We did this at the start of our break and it certainly reduced our stress levels and set us up for the week.

This was our first visit to Mexico.
Would we go back? Yes
To the same hotel? Maybe.
What did we learn? That Mexico is too far to fly (from the UK) for 7 days! Minimum in future 10 days.
When the sun shines its hot and the sun is reaaallly strong. If its overcast it can be very humid.

We booked this trip last minute to get out of the cold weather and it was well worth it.We stayed in room 775 which has a great view of the lagoon and overlooks the adult only pool. We booked it read the reviews which are a mixed bag depending on your needs.Check in was fast they do try and sell you on a time share but when you tell them no they leave in alone. We went to the french restaurant the first night the food was excellent Patrick was our server and he was very good waiter. The breakfast buffet is good food but the location of it the restaurant is not a good location. It is located in the basement of the resort which you can access by stairs or the elevator. It feels like a underground bunker windows that don't open very stuffy feeling. The barefoot restaurant has good food and the waiters there are very kind. The second night we had dinner at the Italian restaurant which was good food but small portions. The last night we had dinner at the Spice restaurant which is located on the roof of the resort. The views were amazing and the food was excellent. We purchased the privileged package it was well worth it they have a section at the beach that has great views of the ocean. The adults only pool has a great view of the lagoon and golf course. We had Maria for a waitress over there she is the best. I can't forget the bartender at the moments bar his name Erick he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the resort.

Took usa transfer to hotel from airport and back. $55.00 round trip private van. Temperature check and sanitizer prior to entering hotel. Sanitizer stations are located everywhere (elevators, restaurants, lobby, bar and pool area's). Hotel was at 25% when we visited. Check in took 5 minutes was offered upgrade to ocean front for $25 a night. Room was clean and all items individually wrapped. Room service completed by 11 am everyday. Lobby bar, sushi bar and swim up bar are the only ones currently open. Buffet open for breakfast and lunch. Barefoot grill open daily. Two of the 6 restaurants open at night. Cin Cin not open at all. Main pools have entertainment daily (water aerobics, volleyball ect). Beach clean and waves huge. Bar service provided if you don't want to walk up to pool area. Venders come about every 10 minutes trying to sell you things. Adult pool in the back of hotel quite and empty. Perhaps 3 couples a day use this pool. Water in pool was a bit chilly until you get use to it. Lots of stairs at this resort. Staff friendly and always wearing masks.

We booked the family vacation for 20 people because supposedly this was a newly remodeled Resort. It seems like a new coat of paint qualifies as remodeled. I'll list some of the many issues with this hotel
Low water pressure
Grossly understaffed
They try to upsell you tours and other "special" packages
Rooms are humid and smell musty no matter how high you put the AC on.
Numerous ac leaks throughout the property that were "addressed" by placing towels and buckets in the lobby and restaurants.
Dangerously cracked and broken floor tiles in lobby.

We made reservations for a New Year's Eve dinner in one of the restaurants (at an extra cost of $500) . When we arrived at our reservation time they didn't have a table available and we're scrambling to set up a table which caused us to wait 45 more minutes. After we were finally seated we ordered drinks and 30 minutes later we were informed they didn't have enough clean glassware to serve us the drinks (the restaurant was at 60% capacity at most) so we ended up waiting 45 minutes for drinks and an hour and a half for the food to finally arrive.
The staff was friendly and very apologetic but unfortunately management has set them up to fail and it seems like they had to spend a lot of their time apologizing for the shortcomings of this resort.

Let me start off by saying that we are not complaining people and have gone on 13 tropical vacations and not had an issue until this one. My Wife and I went to Now Emerald in Cancun Dec 3 to celebrate our Anniversary. I am waiting for ankle surgery on both ankles so have severe mobility issues. By reading the reviews, I was worried about the comments on stairs, I brought it to our travel agents attention, he checked and was told there wasn’t many stairs. Upon arrival we found stairs everywhere, there was only one pool that had a ramp to it, elevator from the lobby to room and everywhere else was stairs. There were at least 5 sets of stairs to get to the beach which is the area that is very important to us. The food was not good and was cold, the best thing we had to eat there was soup. We checked with the Transat rep Ruben who had told us if we had any issues to come to him and he would look after it so we did go to him on the second day and he said he would try to get us moved. He took us to the concierge who was very rude and did not care and said they would not move us. I contacted our travel agent who was very upset with what had happened and said he would work on getting us moved. They wouldn’t do a thing for him either and just wasted his time. When we checked in it went very well but when we asked how to book for ala Cartes we were told to talk to the lady behind us, her name was Lulu. It turned out that her focus was to get us to see another resort and it was obvious that she was trying to sell time shares. When we told her we were not interested in a time share she kept saying it wasn’t. She said to take the information with us and maybe tomorrow we would be interested, after that she would not speak to us and never did give us any information about the resort. When we got to the room, the smell of oil base paint would knock you over, we were moved to another room that still had the smell but not as bad. One morning we went for breakfast and came back and there was a mouse turd on our bed, either we had a mouse in our room or was brought in with the bedding and we slept in it all night. The wait Staff were all wonderful but Management people did not care as long as they had the money. We talked with another person, his name was Luis who gave us all the information about the resort and was surprised that Lulu had not and was very good. Then he asked the next day if everything was good and we told him of our issues and after that he would turn his head and not speak to us. Miguel and Cesar were wonderful at the buffet and we asked for their section all the time. They were a lot of fun and should be working at a better resort, way too good to be working there. It was first advertised as a new resort but then found out the Now chain had taken it over and we’re renovating, it is a disgrace to the chain and will not do much for their name, we will never go to another one. By the third day we just wanted to come home but we were there for two weeks. It would have been different if we had not inquired into the stair issue but we were lied to and could not enjoy the holiday because of the stairs and mobility issue. They admitted that the food was cold but never did fix the problem. We both got sick and still had issues when we got home, if food isn’t kept up to temperature it can be very serious

My wife and I visited Now Emerald from 12/14 -12/18. We have stayed at a number of AMR properties including other Now properties over the course of time, the previous standard set helped to influence our decision to try Now Emerald.

First off, Now Emerald has many steps to reach the tiered pools and beach. There is an elevator to help you reach your room but in general, if you have mobility issues you may want to consider other options.

The Good: Although we were not able to try all of the restaurants, my wife and I were taken back by the quality, variety and taste of the food. The Tamarindo (Mexican) restaurant was excellent serving a variety of dishes with an authentic flavor. The Asian restaurant also was tasty with outstanding views of the Lagoon especially at sunset! The French restaurant did not disappoint along with the rotating spread that was provided poolside each day (tacos, burritos, seafood) and the room service offerings were accurate and timely. Now Emerald offers outstanding views (great for pictures) as well as a smooth white sand beach and some of the most vivid shades of Aqua in the ocean, although the beach is a bit narrow and there are a number of walking vendors. There was a nice selection of spirits and beer (Sol, Dos Equis, Coors Light) to choose from throughout the property. Covid protocols were enforced and we felt very safe as there was constantly someone cleaning and wiping down the common areas. Covid testing was fine tuned and efficient. Check in and check out were both smooth, keep an eye out for Juan, he is very courteous and thoughtful when welcoming you to the property and ensuring your luggage and transportation are coordinated for a seamless departure. Look for Alex the pool concierge, he is always looking to help and make your stay poolside as comfortable as possible.

Areas of opportunity: The room was a bit dated and other guests have ran into problems with this plumbing and A/C, thankfully we did not run into these issues and the bed/pillows were very comfortable. We were not too much concerned with how the room was apportioned as we spend little time in our room. If you are looking for a modern room, you may want to reconsider. There is an upgrade to Preferred but we did not choose to upgrade. There seemed to be a lack of consistency to drink offerings from pool to pool, bar to bar and restaurant to restaurant. We both are not picky when it comes to a specific brand of alcohol but some guests were quite frustrated. The breakfast buffet did seem limited but this could have been adjusted for COVID purposes.

All in all, we would definitely come back for the food and the views. If you are an experienced all inclusive traveler and are expecting 10/10, this hotel will miss the mark for you. If you are new to all inclusive resorts, this is a great middle of the road resort with above average food and views. If you can find a favorable price and you look to make the most of your vacation, overlooking a few of the minor details, this is the perfect place for you!

We were aware that AM Resorts had purchased this resort in June so our expectations were not high. The price was excellent when we booked and knew the beach would not disappoint. Our ocean view balcony room was nice, like the entire resort everything is a little tired, but clean. Our AC worked, but everything in the room including our bed felt damp. The bathtub was a jacuzzi tub with shower, any mobility issues you might it hard to get your leg over the tub. Service was excellent, but they are understaffed. 45 minute or longer waits for an a la cartel that wasn’t full. The beach bar was closed which we assume due to shortage of staff so it was a trek for us or the beach staff to get drinks. If you have mobility issues this resort is not for you. There are stairs and more than one flight in many locations. There are elevators but but not down to the beach. You had to wait to be seated at the buffet. In the morning this could be a long wait and many mornings we opted for a coffee and yogurt from Coco Cafe. We were upset to find out that on New Years Eve there was a $200, $300 or $500 charge to enjoy the festivities on the beach. There was also a $100 or $150 charge for the a la Cartes. We still enjoyed the beach activities in the area provided for the non-payers. We feel that an all inclusive should be just that. If you are looking for a beautiful beach and great service then you will be happy, if you are looking for a 4 or 5 star this is not there yet and not sure it can be.

My boyfriend and I vacationed at Now Emerald for a week and we had a good visit. 7/10.

Our room had a beautiful ocean view and the beach was beautiful as well. It was quite windy while we were here which only allowed 1 out of 7 days for ocean activities to run. A lot of the excursions were cancelled due to rough waters. One day there was absolutely no swimming allowed in the ocean. More pool days than we had planned. The staff was very friendly, Jorge was our favourite! Had a lot of fun playing pool volleyball with him.

Another negative about the beach were the vendors coming into our roped off Preferred area to sell us things, happened a few times every hour. Gets annoying after 7 days!

The food was amazing, our favourite al a carte’s were Spice and CinCin. The sushi at Spice is amazing!! Buffet was great, the barefoot grill was good but the Italian and Mexican al a cartes were not very good. You can make better pasta at the “build your own” at the buffet.

Drinks were great! Bartender in the preferred lounge tried upselling us bottles of tequila and premium wines, when on the website it says premium wines are included with preferred prices.

On the resorts website it says tipping is included with preferred rates, this is not the case. Everyone tips here. Bring extra tip money. If you’re from Canada like we are, expect to pay USD for excursions as well.

We thought mexico would be a cheaper travel destination but unfortunately since it’s Cancun, things were quite expensive.

All in all, it was a good vacation. But we would not return. The only real perk of being preferred was access to the CinCin restaurant. Otherwise, since there are no wristbands at this resort, seemed like anyone could use our “preferred” facilities.

I have been to the Now Jade, Now Sapphire and Now Amber and pleased with the value of all of these resorts; thus, I am so sad to share that the Now Emerald was such a horrible disappointment. This is an old resort that was acquired and re-branded. It is not at all consistent with the Now standards and it should not be branded as such. Air conditioning could not keep rooms cool and leaked on the floor in 2 of the 3 rooms we booked. The resort is very, very outdated. While we heard renovation was in progress, frankly, we saw little. The common area furniture was very dated and worn. Even worse, we saw a lot of furniture in common areas that was just plain dirty! I felt as if I should take a towel to sit on, as we found several of the common area sofas and chairs stained and dirty. Food in the buffet was cold (other than the milk, which was warm). Ala carte restaurants were stuffy and uncomfortably warm; service was extremely slow. The number of stairs in the resort is truly amazing...and not conducive to a family with smaller children or to anyone older. The swim up bar was in a cave like structure. The patios were dated, and plunge pools were dirty, not handles on the steps to enter, and the water extremely cold (unusable). The only thing this resort has going for it is a wonderful view of the ocean and employees who are trying so hard to be helpful, but they were short staffed and running. I was beyond disappointed. I will not return.

This may be lengthy, but worth it. We try not to read reviews before leaving on vacation because people tend to focus on the bad. This time a friend did, so expectations were very low. We were pleasantly surprised. The resort was nice, but had some issues as they are still renovating. The rooms were clean, well stocked with towels, etc. as well as the fridge. Turn down service was a plus.Toilets all over the resort flushed slow, but after getting the knack of it, wasn't a problem. There were a few leaks in our room, as well as other's in our group. Some were fixed, some not.
The pools were nice, swim up bar was fun. There was a waterfall coming into and out of the bar, which was cool, but getting full, uncovered drinks through it was a challenge! There were kids at that bar, which in my opinion, shouldn't happen. Lots of partying going on! The foam party was a blast! A must for anyone who likes to have a good time!
The beach was beautiful, with plenty of chairs. No saving allowed, but chairs by the pool could be. (?) And if you want one, get up at the crack of dawn! The beach was red flagged all week, but lifeguards were always on duty.
Take a bus ride for $1 and skip the high cab fare. The stop is just down the street. Flea market isn't far, along with bars and restaurants.
The restaurants were all delicious! Our least favorite was the Greek, but still good. The others all tied for best! We never ate dinner at the buffet, but breakfast every day, and lunch once. Check out the kids corner! They have some good stuff there!
Lastly, the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and spoke English well. A shout out to Miguel, the hardest working (and fastest!) bartender and Freddi at Capers. Both deserve a promotion and a raise.
