Like many tripadvisor readers, I was concerned about staying at Maya Caribe after reading all the negative reviews. I wondered if the reviews varied based on nationality and age, so I'll try to be as thorough and descriptive.

A gal pal and I stayed at Maya Caribe for 5N/6D in April. We're American. She's 25, and I'm 31. After reading the Tripadvisor reviews, we were ready for the worst. Keeping in mind that most of our time would be spent on the beach and not in our room, we anticipated having to eat out all the time and brought tons of mosquito repellent. But...we had the best time of our lives. The staff was great, and the food was edible. Although our room was not carpeted and luxurious as a 4 or 5 star, we had the beach right in front of us. For the price we paid, it was great!

My friend and I liked the coziness of a small hotel. Instead of the typical hotel with lounge chairs everywhere and a large pool area that hides the beach, Maya Caribe offered simplicity and beauty of its surroundings. You could lie on the beach all day and only have to walk a couple feet to get to the restroom or the bar. The beach area for the hotel was very nice, so you often found guests from the neighboring Dos Playas on the Maya Caribe beach section.

But because Maya Caribe is so small and we went off season, the social scene was a little dead. There were very few people who could be found in the restaurant/bar area throughout the day. We wondered where all the people went, so we went to make new friends at Dos Playas. Maya Caribe guests can enter and use the Dos Playas pool but just cannot eat there.

Cancun's night life is crazy...partying into the late hours. The entertainment staff, Pablo and Rico, showed us a great time. I highly suggest that you go clubbing with the hotel. It's a great way to meet new people and explore the club scene. There are so many clubs to choose from, it's confusing doing it on your own.

Hopefully this review was helpful. Just remember, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a quaint hotel, Maya Caribe is for you. If you need the luxury of bell hops, room service, carpeting, a large hotel lobby, etc., then I suggest the Ritz Carlton or the Palace Hotels.

1) We arrived late and our ocean view room was reserved for us.
2) The room is OK, air-condition is weak. But most important is the view, the ocean front with a tropical paradise in the back.
3) The food was OK, but it seems like the mexican cooks the same food almost anywhere we go.
4)The people who work there is so polite and nice unlike anywhere. They will treat U like king & queen (no need to leave your chair, they will come and serve you). They even went as far as climb up the coconut tree and get down couple of coconuts for us to drink - we requested it.
5) Not crowded, quiet and pieceful.
6) There are even peacock and iguanas in the garden..Beutiful.

Overall, this is not a hotel for those who are nit picky about little details. This is for those who love beutiful oceanic view with a touch of tropical and could careless about little thing as the color of the rooms.

I was prepared for the worst after reading the reviews a few weeks before we were due to fly out, and really didn't want to go to be honest! I expected to be taken to the Dos Playas but we got a room on the top floor with an ocean view which was fantastic. The rooms were quite basic but they were very clean and a good size. The air conditioning was fine too the room was always nice and cool. The bar staff were very good friendly they even bought drinks to us when we were on the beach without being asked! The bar did close at 11pm but they used to give us a jug of liqour and mixer or bought us a tray of drinks. All 3 pools were open and very clean. The location of the hotel couldnt have been better right on the beach. The beach did have a bit of litter on but they did clean it up. The hotel had lovely grounds very green with a peacock and iguanas. The food was ok tasted great but was much the same by the second week but we did eat out quite a few times at night because it was fairly cheap with the strong pound to the dollar.

Overall we had a fantastic time met some really nice people and had a brilliant time. I would definatly go back TOMORROW! The hotel is not a 5star but if you want that you have to pay 5star money it was really great value for money!

A 6 pack of peacocks roaming the grounds makes this hotel the most unique hotel in Mexico! Beaches and pools on site are what renders this place a 5 star value. The Cancun Scuba Center is located at the foot of the hotel, and the Tortuga Port is steps away if you want to make an excursion to Isla Mujeres. Drinks are exceptional (made by Brenda and Marco) and the DJ really knows how to get the families dancing by the round pool. Plenty of vegetarian options at the buffet. House iguana lurking on the steps really takes it up a notch! Next time I'll return with friends because everything you need is HERE!

After being unable to go abroad in 2020 because of Covid, we put our vacation plans on hold for 2021 in the hope we could make it back to the Maya Caribe/Dos Playas. And thank goodness we did, as we were able to revisit paradise for 15 days in November/December.

As always, the weather was beautiful, our room/the view was perfect, the food & drink was plentiful & delightful in equal measure, all the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you and we particularly enjoyed the daytime & nighttime entertainment this visit.

We were especially happy to see Andreas & Yeing again, as they always help to make our stay a happy, memorable one.

Another loco Mexican vacation done, we can't wait to go back later on this year!

Hotel maya caribe exceeded our expectations. We read some reviews that were not great but booked this hotel anyway. It was an authentic mexico resort. The staff were amazing!!! Jose Rios is the best bartender!!!! He is fun, kind, and makes the best margaritas! Our room was clean, the food was great, and the entertainment was fun. The table service at the restaurants were quick and attentive. You don’t have to fight for lounge chairs by the pool or beach. I will definitely return here!

What a nightmare, this hotel is awful. DO NOT BELIEVE TRAVELCOMM'S FAXES. We have complainted to them with no repsonse. When we first booked the hotel, we did so from the pictures on the internet, well it was not of that hotel the first one's we saw. Now the pictures don't even show you the inside of the rooms. You can barely see the hotel in the background of the picture, and I don't have a clue where the other picture is taken of with the table and chairs in the court yard. The hotel is not painted that color at all. The grounds are nice, that is the only thing I can say positive about this hotel. The bathroom was awful, cracked tiles, mold on ceiling, tile was nasty and you had to let the water run for a good five minutes to get a luke warm shower, we never had a hot shower. My husband had to pull the garbage can out twice just to get it emptied. Dried up food on the counter, which was never cleaned. Our toilet backed up three times. The food was awful, we had to eat out, which we didn't plan on at all. Birds were flying in sitting on the food and leaving God only knows on the food. They claimed to have another nice dining room for nice dinners, but they were never open the week we were there, due to lack of staffing. The liquor was watered down to the point of not even worth drinking. My husband complained to the bartender and he was offended that my husband would accuse them of watering down the liquor, so my husband suggested he try a drink with him. He then admitted it was mostly water. We called first thing Monday morning to see if we could get another hotel and none were available in Cancun, so we were stuck. Large cracks under the door and sides of the door where the light from the hallway shined in our faces all night. The air conditioner sounded like a B52 was in our room. The pools were dirty and TravelComm has not responded to our e-mail at all. I will never use them again. They gave us a choice to stay at in the fax, then if you you choose one of the Avalon hotels, you have to pay more money, which we didn't know until they screwed up our booking, we assumed by the pictures that we saw of the hotel it was nice, so we stayed there but it wasn't of that hotel, trust me. The beach was filthy with drink cups, straws, bottle caps, food containers, etc. They don't even clean up their beach. We made the best of it, but it was pretty bad, all the people but one couple we met were really ticked off at TravelComm and the hotel, they too hated the place.

DO NOT GO TO MAYA CARIBE CANCUN or IMPERIAL LAS PERLAS HOTELS. I am normally a frugal traveller who can tolerate a lot; I know not to expect a lot for low prices. However, this company is beyond a budget hotel; these people are dishonest and nasty.

I booked a hotel room at Maya Caribe seven months in advance. After seeing bad reviews (other travellers had reported showing up and being told that they overbooked and sent them to a dump called Imperial Las Perlas, another hotel owned by the same company), I became concerned, so I emailed them 5 times and called them long-distance to confirm my reservation. They informed me that I would have a room at their hotel when I arrived.

When I arrived at Maya Caribe, a rude woman behind the counter told us that she had no rooms for us and would send us to Imperial Las Perlas, where we would stay for our entire vacation. She said we had no choice and that there was no use in complaining. When we got to our room at Imperial Las Perlas, we found ourselves in a room with no hot water, no phones, a broken refrigerator, and huge cockroaches.

When we complained, the receptionist lied to us and said this was the only available room. The beach did not have waves; it is more of a harbour with a lot of garbage. On the second day, we decided to explore other hotels to check into. Since the phone in our room didn't work, we had to make phone calls at the receptionist's desk. The receptionist overheard all our conversations asking about other hotel vacancy.

On the third day, we proceeded to hail a taxi in front of the hotel to go explore Cancun on our own. The manager ran out after us and, assuming that we were taking off to check into another hotel, told us that if we are not back in half an hour, he will rent our room to other people. We tried to argue, but, just as the woman at Maya Caribe said, we had no choice. That was the end of our stay at Imperial Las Perlas...we got kicked out. We ended up going to a REAL hotel, and that's what you should, too.

For the sake of your sanity, for the sake of a fun, worthwhile vacation, by all means, DO NOT GO TO MAYA CARIBE or IMPERIAL LAS PERLAS

Very budget hotel, even if you can get it for next to nothing don't bother.
1* at its best, loads of areas waiting for an accident to happen.
Food a waste of time, always cold, and bar was very very limited as to what it had in stock, ok if you like water or diluted orange.
No hot water for 2 weeks despite complaining every day, moved rooms after 4 days still no improvements.
Take your own towels as the ones that they give you are crap.
Worst hotel that we have ever stayed in, but good location and beach, with lots of improvements this could be a real gem, but do believe all the negative comments, they are true. Looks like management have not taken any action from reviews since 2010, this says a lot about their attitude to your stay.
We booked blind over the internet on price only, don't make the same mistake

We noticed that you gave Maya Caribe an excellent quality/rate score. Yes, our property is focused on low budget tourists that visit Cancun trying to save money on accomodation in order to be able to expend more on tours and entertainment. Your comments about making improvments are important to us and we´ll take actions in that direction.
