The Hard Rock Hotel Cancun receives mixed reviews, with many guests praising its prime location and the friendly service of its staff, though concerns are raised about value for money. While some travelers enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and commend the hotel's cleanliness, others find the noise level disruptive and the music not quite on theme. The amenities and rooms have their advocates, particularly for their views, yet criticisms include timeshare pressures, limited seating by the pool, and the need for room renovations.

We are legendary members. While not for some, we feel it was worth doing. However….. we recently took friends there, and of course they took the presentation, which is initially thinly disguised as an introduction to the resort, breakfast etc, then quickly culminates in a hard sell experience.
Our greeter was charming, and he quickly set up a meeting in the morning for breakfast. Before breakfast however, we were taken upstairs to the sales room where I knew the sales pitch was going to happen. Much to his dismay, when they came over I said no to the presentation, as my guests had not even seen the resort or experienced the superb quality of the amenities.
We left after explaining our situation, and promised to complete the presentation later in the week.
Fast forward a few days, and an associate named Nicholas became our go to guy. Look for him, I am sure he is a rising star at HR, he is well spoken, knowledgeable and personable.
He set up a meeting at our request as our guests were genuinely considering becoming members. They loved everything about the resort and wanted to find out more. I have mixed feelings about the membership, but it made sense for us, and I wanted to see what was new in the ever changing HR world. We took the presentation separately, and when ours progressed to the sales pitch, I firmly declined to upgrade. A higher up sales associate confirmed my refusal, and that was it. Not the 1.5 hrs we were promised, more like 3.5, but we learned a lot about the possibilities and more about the perks of membership that we had not ever used.
Our friends however had a markedly different encounter, sad to say. They did much the same tour, had some very nice young ladies showing them around and giving the initial pitch. While my friends wanted to commit to the membership, the timing was not good for them financially, which they explained politely, telling them that they would definitely “buy in” at a later date. This is where things took a bad turn. The initial sales person was replaced with a more forceful salesman (Mike was his name) who hammered away at them, despite continued explanations that now was not an ideal time, even though they wanted to commit. He continued to push hard, long after the first refusal, and eventual lost patience with my friends and basically threw them out of the sales area, pointing to the exit and saying “leave! Go get what you came for and leave!”
What he was referring to of course was the gift they give for your time, which of course does not make up for the time spent or stress that a hard sell has. They cared less about the “gift” and it had little bearing on them being willing to take the presentation.
Bottom line…. As a member, I was appalled at the way they were treated, and made a formal complaint against Mike. Nicholas took a written account of the encounter to the director, and assured us we would hear from him soon. We never heard back.
While I love the Hard Rock chain, and have spent many holidays in some of their resorts, all great experiences, I would advise all new visitors to pass on the presentation, or at the very least, watch your time, and get up and leave after an hour and a half unless you are interested in spending money for a membership.

Now the good stuff! As I said, Nicholas stood out amongst many, and I would seek him out if you go to this resort. There were many others whose names I did not get, but ALL the staff was wonderfully pleasant and helpful. The servers in all the restaurants were universally great, room cleaning staff did a wonderful job every day (please don’t forget to tip the housekeeping staff, they often get neglected in that area) and the pool entertainment guys and gals were super. Say Hi to Otto, Prau, Jessaquin (sp?) and they will endeavor to make your visit fun! Gustav in the swimup bar, ever ready to keep you supplied with beverage of choice!
There were too many standouts to name, and once again the quality of this resort did not disappoint.
The only downside and negative thing aside from the sales arena, was the way they have decided to split the resort. For those that have not been there, the resort is divided into two areas, one for families with children and one adults only. In the past it was almost evenly divided, and th pool at Heaven was adults only. It was a fun, party atmosphere always and in some ways still is. However the management decided to change the dividing line, and now the dive pool is in the family area, as is a lot of the previous adults only areas. It is a mystery to me why they would do this, now there is only one larger pool and the small Eden area that is adults only. The Hacienda area had many more pools already so it is hard to understand their reasoning.
In that line, I cannot imagine a better place for a family with children to holiday, with so many amenities geared to accommodate those taking children.

Howdy,

I've just returned from my week long trip and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Where to start check in was relatively straight forward i'd hoped for a free upgrade but had to pay nonetheless was worth the ocean view. We had a beautiful corner view room which offers more space on the balcony on the 6th floor. As we arrived at 11am our room wasn't ready so my partner and I sauntered over to the bar where our lovely bartender Jose poured and poured and poured. The room was clean bright airy with ample space. Only gripe is i'm sad they no longer offer the in room liquor cabinet and we now have to request it to be brought up (I like variety so a tad annoying).

I ordered champagne every morning to watch the sunrise and slept with the window and curtains opened. The aircon was very effective and the cleaner did a great job on replenishing stocks and making the room adequate on a daily basis.

The pool lovely met sooooooooooo many people from many walks of life GOD it was so good. The sea - BEWARE we lost a phone and had to pay snorkelers to find it (beware it's their job to wait for something to get lost then they retrieve it for a fee). Save the stress leave your thing in the room.

The shows we didn't make but our friends told us Michael Jackson & Queen were UNREAL. Casino night was fun (wish it was real money).

Another shout out to my boy SANTOS. He had so much spunk and vivaciousness I loved him. I do wish I carried my own straws as frozen drinks are a nightmare without em but hey I guess we're saving the environment. My fav restaurant was Ciao (get the ribeye steak).

Breakfast in the Market was vast & adequate and the smell in the reception was nice and refreshing. I had fun walking down the strip went to the Red Casino to gamble real money & visited the town to buy some bits and bobs. Anywho going off tangent, it's great, go!!!

This review is a little late, we travelled Sept 5th, I am sure things have been ironed out since we were there.

We arrived at the hotel and were screened by temp, sanitizing our shoes and were asked to please wear our masks which was nice to see. When we arrived we went to the room, there was a "sanitized" seal on the door showing it had been cleaned. There were no refreshments in the fridge, nor any snacks on the desk, we were told this is the new rule while the covid rules are in effect. No big deal we called room service and they brought up whatever you wanted pretty fast. The staff was, as always, very attentive to any and all needs. we only had a couple issues which werent horrible but a little annoying. One was we went to the concierge desk to ask what exactly we get with the concierge level, they didnt know which I thought was strange. Another was our last day we were going to grab a quick bite to eat before leaving for the airport, it took over 45 min to get 2 sandwiches, we almost had to leave without eating. Also, we booked a chefs dinner, we happened to go check where it would be located and they said "oh, that has been cancelled" I said "was anybody going to tell us?" they said "we just did", again no big deal just a little annoying. Jesus at the breakfast market was awesome, Santos in impenema was also great, we asked if he could get us some shrimp and he came back with a plate of shrimp that wasnt on the menu. Axel by the pool, Ramos in the bar, Irma in the bar, Jesus server on the beach, Alexus all were FANTASTIC!!. We did the romantic dinner which was absolutely delicious. Overall it was a great vacation i would say 4-4.5 star but I think they were doing the best they could given the restrictions because of the covid. We will be back for Thanksgiving with a small group of people. We will see if they get the little things ironed out by then.

This was probably our least favorite, not really sure why, nothing was really wrong. My only knock is that most of the good things are ruined by annoying things that go along. See below-

The beach was really nice. Thew water perfect aqua blue and great for walking around Cancun. They had chairs and drinks out there. Now the issue, you couldn't sit for more than 2 minutes without someone wanting to sell you cigars, hats, parasail etc.. never ended got annoying. I know the beach is public, but it would be nice if the hotel could do something.

The pool was likewise nice. However it was a bit too cold. Too make matters worse was that if you didn't get to the pool by 8, it would be tough to get any sort of decent seat. I would get there at 7:30 and most of the best seats were already gone by then. As expected, nobody would show up to those seats to 10 10:30ish

The food was decent and similar in quality to most better all inclusives. We enjoyed the Italian the most and the Mexican(surprisingly) the least. Given the great beach location of the resort, it would have been nice if they had any dining option for dinner that overlooked the beach. Instead 3 of the 4 restaurants were inside with decore that could have been anywhere. The process of getting a dinner reservation invovled going to the dinner reservation counter by 7:30ish to ensure you could get a reservation at a reasonable time. The tacos and pizza poolside for lunch were both the standouts to me.

The rooms were nice but showed some signs of the age of the building. The walls were thin and it was quite easy to hear your neighbors talk. The doors to the room were also very heavy, my nine year old had difficulty opening it. Making things worse the key readers were stubborn and did not work well. Oh yeah the toilet made noise and the AC was a little loud. The rooms were otherwise in good shape and the hotel does have some nice ocean views.

The service was excellent all over the resort.

We enjoyed our time here but liked the Hard Rock in Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta a little more.

My week long return trip to Hard Rock Cancun in the midst of a pandemic was did not disappoint. First, if you’re like me, you will be a little concerned about traveling internationally period! Let me say that without fail all staff work overtime to assure the safety of the guests and themselves. Mandatory mask wearing applies to all indoor activities and in restaurants. Although I just returned Two days ago, a lot of my vacation remains a blur. So instead of giving you a blow by blow, I will just give a shout out to some of the incredible staff I ran across while there. Paulina ezquerra, AB who played ping pong with my wife and grandson, and Luis from the activity/entertainment program were in a word outstanding! If you did not have fun at this resort it was because you did not want to. In a week’s time they got to know us by name and made a point to invite us to everything that was going on at the resort. Their optimistic attitude and tireless efforts helped to make a great trip back to Hard Rock Cancun even better.

Poolside help was great but one in bar maid in particular, Irma, was an exceptional server anticipating all drink needs and Johnny on the spot when my glass got empty (by the way it never did). I never had to look for her because she found me when I was in the pool or out or wherever I was in that vicinity.

At Zen Asian restaurant Miguel put on excellent show but even better performance with the food cooked to perfection. Damian one of the waiters brought me 2 bottles of water from room service without me asking after I inquired about where to get a bottle of water. Outstanding service! Lola was also a very sweet waitress. In fact all the staff at the Hibachi restaurant were exceptional!

We were at the HR Cancun between March 16-22, 2020. This was the beginning of the Mexican government response to the Covid-19 pandemic. When we arrived, the hotel was only at about 30% occupancy but during the week it declined to about 10%. As the understanding of the virus became clearer, measures within the hotel accelerated. Social distancing was not hard to do as the hotel became increasingly empty. The bar crews were doing a good job of wiping things down as each guest left. It almost felt like a private club as the days wore on. Many times we we alone at the bar and restaurants. It did give us time to engage in (socially distanced) conversations with bartenders such as Jose down next to the pizza oven and Cruz up on the third floor Royalty pool bar. The hotel even put out bank type rope barriers at the bars to ensure distance. We thought they did a good job of keeping the hotel clean and the glasses full!

We traveled with a large group of 14 couples and singles to the Hard Rock Cancun in January of 2020. Overall our needs were met and our expectations of what we thought the Hard Rock would be like was great. The entire stay was pleasant. Rooms were large and clean and I mean very clean. We had the best housekeeper in the world. Always polite, very on top of her job and some how she managed to know when we were still in the room and when we weren't she even found us as we were leaving to say good bye. So thank you very much Adriana your the best. Our bell boy Vitaliano was also awesome. On our walk to the room he shared some great advise about the resort gave us a brief lay of the land in the hotel. Vitaliano got us into the room showed us around and we felt very welcomed. He has a very welcoming smile as well. The resort is great in so many ways, it's very easy to know where you are the restaurants were amazing I can't say anything bad about the food or drinks. The bartenders at all locations are very on top of things. You don't wait very long at all for a drink. The stone fire pizzas were amazing the heart attack food at the swim up bar was out of this world and the entertainment every day poolside was off the charts super fun. Now here is where I share why I couldn't give this a full 5 stars. The evening entertainment was lacking. The location changed from one night to another, the venues were freezing cold so much that some of our group couldn't stay to watch the shows the room was way to cold and there was not enough seating. When I think of evening entertainment i think of an outdoor open air venue especially in a tropical location, maybe a bonfire on the beach with fire dancers or the like. This is the only area that I think needs a bit of work. Especially coming from a resort known for music and musicians. Other than that very great hotel, great proximity to the airport and fantastic workers. Hope to return again sometime.

1) All servers that we dealt with were wonderful. We would add that at breakfast our server each day was Carlos Nicolas. He was so pleasant and accomodating! He even remembered our coffee of choice each morning! Wonderful gentleman.
Also very impressive was Angel in the Ipanama restaurant. For a young person, he was amazing! He even had the kitchen prepare something special for me! This is a meat restaurant and as I do not eat meat, he arranged for grilled mahi mahi which was the best I have every had. His partner for serving was also wonderful however I do not recall his name.
2) We are members and have noticed that over time the quality in certain areas have been scaled down. An example would be the wines that are available in some restaurants. This is an all inclusive resort. If you want to upgrade something like the wine it is very overpriced.
3) We understand it is 'Hard Rock', however the volume of music in the lobby and theatre was quite excessive! My ears were ringing for the rest of the evening. We consider this very unnecessary.
3) Our room was on the 8th floor and it was quiet! Slept great!! The mattress and pillows were very comfortable!

I would again add the staff is GREAT! Nicest folks anywhere!!

My wife and I stayed here for 10 nights in January 2020 and had a fantastic holiday. We first arrived and felt the hotel didn't really have a "Hard Rock" vibe, having stayed at other HRHs, this issue though was swiftly taken away by the superb service, amazing food and above all the incredible staff. The pool areas are very well managed and staff were pretty much always on top of the issue of people trying to reserve beds by leaving towels for hours on end without being on the beds, these were generally removed and any personal items stored safely with the beds left free for use of people actually at the pool. The drinks, bar staff and servers were superb with prompt service, a friendly smile and incredible drinks available, special shout out to the teams at Diagos, The Dive Bar and the Smash Bar. The food and staff at all the on site eateries was spot on, the maitrede welcoming you at the door, Chow was favourite for breakfast, all staff always had a smile and we really had no issue in getting a table in any of the excellent on site restaurants, not to mention the unbelievable range of food available daily for breakfast and lunchtime either in restaurants or around the pools. The barmen serving drinks were great, always up for a laugh and the drinks amazing. The entertainment team though were the icing on the cake and kept everyone happy, smiling and thoroughly entertained. Mike and the team were amazing and easily the best entertainment team we've encountered. The entire holiday was superb, food, drinks, hotel itself but without doubt the entire hotel staff were the thing that made this an unforgettable experience. See you in Jan 2021.....

My husband and I just got back from his early birthday vacation in Cancun. We stood here at the Hard Rock Cancun and we had a blast. I added the birthday package to our reservation and everything was as we expected it. Nice birthday banner on our door and balloons decorated our room, champagne, a mini birthday cake and some fresh chocolate covered strawberries were placed on the counter top. We would like to thank Antonio for this who made my husband's surprise possible. We would also like to thank Mirnerva who always kept our room well stocked and extremely clean.

When it came to reserving lounge chairs along the pool or beach Tharvin always made it happen. He always made sure we had towels and lounge chairs waiting for us. We felt extremely welcomed!

The process to get the antigen test is super easy and fast and brought up to you as soon as you check in.

The hotel entirely was super clean. You always seen someone cleaning or sanitizing something and hand sanitizer was offered everywhere you went. Made our stay feel extremely comfortable.

Our couples massage was such a relaxing experience. Although I am forgetting their names :( the women we had were so kind and made sure everything was sanitized.

We can't wait to visit again!

Book early, 90 plus days in advance. Remodeling is ongoing, so I suggest using lower floor levels to avoid the time delays caused by limited elevator space or function. I was on 15th floor (or 13th) and found walking stairs was as quick, or faster, than waiting on an elevator. A real time waste during high use periods (breakfast, dinner, checkin and checkout time frames).

They do have meeting rooms but not sure how strong the Wi-Fi is? The Wi-Fi in the hotel itself was very good for our phones at least. Hope this helps.

There is! However, I never saw it since my kids are all teenagers. It's away from the main pool area, at the front of the hotel.
