Nestled on an exceptional beachfront, Kempinski Hotel Cancún captivates guests with its stunning views and proximity to local attractions. While the atmosphere oscillates between lively and classically elegant, with opulent touches, some visitors find the hotel's value lacking, particularly due to the steep prices for food and services. The cleanliness of the rooms and facilities generally garners acclaim, although concerns over pool hygiene have surfaced. The service is predominantly praised for its professionalism, and the luxury amenities, including beautiful pools and beachfront, are a highlight despite occasional service hiccups and dated room decor.

To say that we were well taken care of at this hotel would be an understatement. The service here was top notch for our 6 night stay. The staff were kind and friendly and the rooms clean and well-maintained. The beach was free of seaweed, the beach beds and loungers were well kept. The pool, where we spent most of our time, was warm and heated according to the air temperature. We traveled with two young children (age 5) and they enjoyed being at the "kids pool" which really just meant it was shallower than the other pools (about 3.5 ft deep vs. 4.5 ft). The breakfast was delicious as was the food in the restaurants. There was plenty of choice on the kids menus as well. All of the rooms have ocean views; we had a room that was on the side and so we didn't face the ocean head-on. This was actually worked out well because the rooms which face the ocean directly also get direct sun whilst ours was always in the shade. Some of the restaurants can be on the pricier side though and so we did spend a few meals directly across the street at a local Mexican restaurant "Andavos". There is also a shop next to the restaurant that sells, water, snacks, pool toys etc. The hotel was also within walking distance to many other sit-down restaurants and right along the bus route to get into town.

Thank you for your glowing review and for sharing your wonderful experience at Kempinski Cancún! We are delighted to hear that our team made your stay memorable with their top-notch service and friendly demeanor. It’s also heartwarming to know that your accommodations provided both comfort and breathtaking ocean views, and that the shaded balcony added a touch of tranquility to your stay. We're thrilled that your family enjoyed the warm, temperature-controlled pools and that the little ones had a splashing good time in the kids' pool. Creating joyful moments for our youngest guests is always a priority, and we’re pleased to hear the kids' menus offered plenty of delightful options. Thank you for your feedback about the restaurants; we are proud of the culinary experiences we offer, and we understand that a mix of dining options can enhance a vacation. The vibrant local establishments nearby are indeed a fantastic complement to our offerings. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another unforgettable stay filled with more cherished family memories! If there’s anything we can do to make your next visit even more exceptional, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

As travelers that look for smaller, intimate boutique hotels, my girlfriend and I were wonderfully surprised at how great the Kempinski Cancun turned out. One can read reviews on Tripadvisor and Google but I think all take it with a grain of salt. In this case the positive reviews are well warranted as we found out on a daily basis.

From the moment we checked in with Daniel at the front desk, we started to experience the level of service that you would expect from a five star hotel. We were upgraded to a corner suite which was decorated with balloons!! ( We were celebrating an anniversary)
The room was lovely although the décor might be a bit bland, however as the week continued we found the housekeepers, like the rest of the staff, were impeccable.

Being beach lovers we positioned ourselves everyday at the edge of the water which was was maintained beautifully. Shout out to Edgar and Jorge as well as Javier and the rest of the staff at the Carib Beachfront restaurant. Great Service!!
Nicholas the lifeguard was such a pleasure to talk to and he, like most of the staff members, have been working at this location for many years. Everyone’s attitude here’s is so welcoming and genuine that you really feel special.

Obviously much credit has to be given to Aref, the General Manager, whose leadership and guidance have turned what was the old Ritz Carlton, into what should be one of the jewels of the Kempinski hotel empire.

Although we ventured out for dinner almost every night, we found the food at the hotel to be the best of all the places we ate. The breakfast and lunches were delicious, well prepared and served in a very reasonable amount of time. The concierge service was very helpful as far as suggesting restaurants or activities in Cancun......check out the Jungle Tour Barracuda if you like speedboats and snorkeling. Big shout out to both Ruben and Antonio.
In the evening, the lounge offered live music, which was just Ok, but the bartenders, especially Carlos made us feel right at home.

Hope this helps!!!

We are world travelers and stay at only luxury hotels. We can say that the Cancun Kempinski (formerly the Ritz) is one of the nicest winter beach vacations we have ever had. Every thing about this property is top notch, fresh flowers throughout the hotel , meticulously clean rooms and common areas and staff that really understands guest service. Many staff members have been with the hotel long term and they are proud the hotel and the work they do. That converts to genuinely friendly encounters with everyone who works at the hotel. We booked a room with access to the 8th floor club including food and beverages at breakfast, lunch , tea time and dinner. The food was always excellent with standard offerings for vegetarians and non-gluten guests at every single meal. The pastry chef is a genius!! Our club concierge (Iliana) took care of all our bookings so competently and helped us celebrate our anniversary in so many thoughtful ways. Thank you Iliana. All of the hotel staff across the board were ever so accommodating and friendly. This is a beautiful luxury hotel that spares nothing to please it’s guests including heating the pool water in one of its 3 very clean pools. Pool and beach service is excellent. The ocean waves vary according to the month, so check that out when making your decision about booking dates. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Kempinski.

I visited the Kempinski Cancun for my 35th birthday and cannot gush enough about the hotel, the Club Level, and the staff. From Evelin at the Club Desk, the servers throughout the club, and Cesar the bellman, everyone is beyond exceptional. The Club Level has attained the level of service where your needs are anticipated, making vacation as relaxing as possible for you. I truly sink into relaxation here.

The Club Level food offerings have remained consistent and I'm forever grateful for their vegetarian options. Cocktails are now available only from 5-8pm, but they are still serving high-quality, delicious margaritas among other offerings.

Apart from the amazing staff, I enjoy the timeless elegance of this resort and how serene it is compared to most other hotel zone options. It is impeccably clean and comfortable.

However, I do believe the bathrooms are more than ready for a refresh. The shower heads are old, and water pressure canot be adjusted. Furthermore, the shower head does not have a handheld option either, making the shower experience pretty lackluster. The toiletries are also not of the same high quality as when it was the Ritz. These few details make the bathroom experience a lot less luxurious than you can get at other hotels in the other. While the timelessness of this resort is appreciated, I do believe updating the shower experience and toiletries would make the Kempinski truly feel like a 5-diamond hotel from top to bottom.

Can't wait to be back!

Kempinski is a luxurious resort that truly embodies elegance, reminiscent of the Ritz Carlton. The staff are incredibly courteous, polite, and always eager to assist. Our room was impeccably cleaned twice a day, and the café staff greeted us with warm smiles every morning. The concierge went above and beyond, recommending and booking fantastic restaurants outside the hotel, always securing the best seats with stunning views.

Chris was exceptional—he helped us book tours and stayed in touch via WhatsApp to ensure everything was perfect. We can’t recommend him highly enough.

The food was outstanding, especially at Casitta, the breakfast spread, and D Lounge. At the pool, the staff had towels laid out for us the moment we arrived, adding to the seamless experience. Kempinski is a place where luxury meets unparalleled hospitality—highly recommended!

If you’re planning a trip to Cancun, do yourself a favor and book an all-inclusive resort. This is not the place to choose for a standard hotel experience. My stay at the Kempinski Hotel was disappointing, and it fell far short of the 5-star status it claims.

From the outset, it was clear this hotel is not in the same league as other 5-star properties. The prices for the nightly stay were okay but the food and the overall experience didn’t justify the cost. Basic amenities like airport shuttle transfers were not included—you’ll need to arrange your own transportation. After my stay, I understand why the hotel seemed so empty, as reflected in some of the less-than-stellar reviews I initially ignored.

Hotel & Rooms:
The front staff, a few of the servers at breakfast buffet and the beach/pool servers were low key rude. (Unfortunately what others have experienced as well)

The hotel is outdated, with furnishings that appear to have barely been refreshed since its rebranding from Ritz-Carlton to Kempinski.

While the rooms were clean, the beds, pillows, and mattresses were old and uncomfortable—I’ve experienced far better in 3-star hotels. The housekeeping staff were really nice and kept our rooms clean.

The pool area and common spaces also showed signs of age and neglect. This is a far cry from the luxury you’d expect from a top-tier hotel brand, especially when the staff were only motivated by big tippers.

Dining:
• Fantarino Restaurant: The service here was exceptional, and the staff were welcoming and friendly, delivering the “5-star diamond” experience advertised. Unfortunately, the food didn’t match the service—there was no wow factor in the dishes, and the overall quality was underwhelming.
• Breakfast Buffet at the Café: At $42 per person, it was overpriced for what was offered. That said, one server, Rudy, was especially kind and attentive on one of our mornings.
• Dinner at Casitas: The standout of the trip. The service was excellent, and the local catch of the day (grouper) was delicious, but it’s not enough to redeem the overall experience.

It seems like when this property transitioned from Ritz to Kempinski, they made a few surface-level updates but failed to maintain the high standards you’d expect. The Kempinski name here feels more like a hollow label than a guarantee of luxury.

No matter how good a deal you find, I cannot recommend this hotel. I certainly wouldn’t stay here again or suggest it to my family or friends. For Cancun, stick to an all-inclusive resort—you’ll get far better value, service, and overall enjoyment.

I have been to Cancun a lot and I have stayed at lots of resorts many that I have gone back two or three times we took the chance to stay at the Kinski hotel thinking that we would get similar type service. When we arrived, we were greeted. It was fine. We were checked in our room. It was just a hotel room. Nothing fancy bed and shower. One of the main reasons why I gave this resort a two star or many reasons for one the hotel does not cater to guest like a all inclusive this caters to companies and it showed there were a couple of companies that were celebrating accomplishments for their employees that took over the entire resort You almost feel like you went to somebody else’s party but you’re the third wheel that’s what it felt like as a guest you get overlooked because you’re only a fraction of what the major corporation is spending for all employees so you get looked over and it showed. The cleanliness of the pool I’m sure that with as many drinks as all their employees were partaking in rarely left the pool so it made me think that it was a cesspool of urine from all day drinking. There was no entertainment or activities or music around the pool area so it was very quiet other than some people enjoying their time while partaking in their companies activities. This was probably the worst place that I have ever stayed. I do love Cancun and plan on going back in August if you are not part of a corporation outing I would not choose this place.

Having previously stayed in a Kempinski Hotel in Vienna, when I saw that they had acquired the former Ritz-Carlton in Cancun, I knew that my wife and I would be in for a treat!
Kempinski Cancun did not disappoint! The property, decorating, furnishings and landscaping are meticulously upkept. The location and views are absolutely amazing! The staff is guest focused, professional, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The restaurants serve well prepared, thoughtful and delicious cuisine! The bars serve a variety of excellent libations. The entertainment provided, of popular music in the D-Lounge, and classical piano in Fantino restaurant was excellent! Our favorite go to restaurant was Casitas where we enjoyed delicious meals by the ocean under a starry Caribbean sky.
Our room was a beautiful, immaculate and well appointed ocean front room with a comfortable King bed, We enjoyed our morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the azure waters of the ocean.
Mr. Mike Domínguez, Concierge was the first member of the wonderful Kempinski staff that I interacted with, as he helped to arrange our transport from the airport to the Hotel. During our stay, we met many more of the Kempinski staff who all shared the common goal of making our time there enjoyable. Thanks to Ulises, Gustavo, Itza, and many others for helping to make our time a wonderful memory!

We stayed on the Club Level at Kempinski Hotel Cancun for 4 nights in September in a Seaside Room. My family was absolutely delighted to return to Kempinski and find everything just as spectacular as we remembered! To make the visit even more special, the ocean was aqua-blue and the sargassum essentially nonexistent.

It's very rare that I can immediately fall into a state of relaxation when on vacation, but somehow, instant relaxation and a sense of being at ease wash over me the moment I arrive here. The staff are attentive, but not overbearing, and truly want to make your stay special. I love seeing familiar faces and hearing of staff who have worked there since before the changeover from Ritz. Once housekeeper said she'd been there for 24 years and our bellman, Cesar, always makes for a delightfully memorable beginning and end to our stay. He greets us like old friends and then waves goodbye as we leave, making us feel like family.

The Club Level food offerings were tasty and fresh, much better than the resort we'd come from, and the Club staff and chef were happy to find me a vegetarian option for dinner if needed, which is above and beyond appreciated. I will be craving their food for a long time!

No breakfast buffet due to low occupancy, but that just meant we got to try Cafe Mexicano which was a real treat every morning. Fresh juice, omelets, homemade tortillas, you name it, were all available. It was a special way to start the day.

The Seaside room is comfortable and clean and has everything you need. Also, for being "seaside" the ocean view was generous and enjoyable.

I can't say enough good things about the Kempinski and I'm already looking at dates to return. Thanks for the hospitality and wonderful memories!

Would 100% recommend Kempinski Cancun. Just like the other reviewers, we were also super impressed by the staff and level of service. Everyone is super welcoming and friendly and there to take care of their guests. You can tell they take great pride in their work. The doormen, front desk, housekeeping, pool assistants, and servers all make you feel so well taken care of and make it so easy to relax knowing that everything is taken care of for you.
Not only does housekeeping clean the room, they fold clothes you’ve left out, line up your toiletries and shoes, organize your belongings on the dresser, etc. So nice!
The servers by the pool are super attentive and service is fast.
Their concierge is also very helpful. Reuben and the Lady in a Red are both around the pool to greet you and check if you need anything. Then, they are available by WhatsApp if you need anything. They made a couple calls for us to help us with reservations.
We ate casually while there. We had food poolside and room service. The salads, wraps, and burgers were all great.
As of March 2023, the seaweed/sargassum was not an issue. They do have a tractor that rakes it off the beach. There is a public beach up from the hotel and you can see how there would be more seaweed if it wasn’t cleaned off.
My only criticism is that I found the background music by the pool to be too loud. The closer to the waterfront that you move the quieter it is. I also didn’t like that we could hear it in our room when we had our balcony doors opened which we liked to have open. We were on the fourth floor. Maybe if we were on a higher floor we wouldn’t have been able to hear it. Not a deal breaker, I just prefer quiet and listening to the waves. :)

Most of the food and drinks were expensive and we only had lunch a few times. Breakfast buffet was $55 per person after you factor in tax and small tip. I think drinks were $20 but not sure. We took easy bus in front of hotel going north to Chedtaui Selecto and stocked up on yoghurt, fruits and pasties for breakfast and went out for dinner every night. I would assume at least $350 per day if we ate all our meals at resort. Bring extra Nespresso pods and save on coffee if you are big coffee drinkers. They give you 4 free pods per day plus more if you ask. Great Nespresso machine in room. Upgrading to Club room might take care of most meals, They were sold out while we were there, front desk said cost would be extra $200 per night per room.

What is the difference between a Deluxe Seafront room and a Deluxe Seaside room?

Glendavista is correct. Seafront rooms have balconies directly parallel to the ocean while Seaview rooms are situated sideways of the view of the ocean. All rooms though with sea facing rooms have views of the water.
