I’ll start with the good. Food, drinks, staff. Close to pier. This place is run down and old, lots of cracked walkways and around pools. But clean. There was one day a huge pile of grease slop was on a sidewalk and I almost wiped out. It smelt sooooo bad (grease trap?) Everything shuts down at 10:30, no food, no drinks. 2 bottles of water in our fridge daily. Nothing to do at the hotel. You can walk to oxo for drinks and snacks but pay attention to what you’re charged if paying with card. If it rains you literally have nowhere but your room. Our balcony was SLIPPERY when wet (as was the bathroom, same tile) so be careful. We asked to move to a room that didn’t have a parking lot view and was told an additional $22USD per night, even though there are many empty rooms. Not the view we had hoped for. We were in block 1 which also housed locals which was fine. Some would deep fry on their balcony’s then dump buckets of water and push the water off. Whoever was above us would wake us up sliding furniture almost every morning and night. No tables on balcony, no coffee maker which was brutal when the resort didn’t have coffee at the buffet for THREE DAYS. Bed was super old, remote didn’t even have a back to cover batteries not to mention the buttons had worn off. Walls started to yellow after it rained. Air con worked Beach is beautiful but tons of seaweed. They had someone raking everyday but literally did 1/20th of the beach and then disappeared. Did a little bit everyday. If you walk down to Riu (beside) where my husband was last month the sand is so clean. There is also only bar tenders so no service staff, or even tables at the pools or beach for drinks. The hotel photos do not match what is here. No cabanas, no tables around the pools, no lounge areas aside from a few spots here and there to eat quickly. Not enough beach chairs to accommodate everyone and many don’t have cushions. Beaches also are not private so don’t be surprised if the loungers are taken up by locals. The pier charges for bathroom use, Dos Playas doesn’t. Monday the beach was very busy. There are 5 pools, 2 kids pools, I by the bar that didn’t look clean that was the busiest even with only 12 loungers, and even had a dog it in one day… then 2 by the beach that were deep and useless unless you had a floaty. No one was ever in them.. Pizzas are good, don’t bother with sushi. Tacos would be nice in Mexico lol the fiesta night Thursday was great! Burgers and fries were edible. We ate out about 1/2 the time. $16-20 usd to get downtown. Pier is next door. There was a restaurant by the beach bar that never opened. Which seemed like a a huge waste. May have been a disco at some point? But would’ve been nice to have for the time it rained. Or a nice dinner by the beach. But this is a budget resort. If you like simple and can over look the cosmetics, don’t drink or plan to leave the resort everyday, than this if for you. We have travelled a lot and this feels like 3 star Cuba but with better food. This resort could be sooooo much better it’s a shame. House keeping was awesome. The staff does work hard and are very friendly. I didn’t feel this was the most accommodating resort. Everytime I needed something it never worked out, I walked out of the office almost everytime wondering why I had bothered

Hotel's Favorite
We visited this hotel from the UK as part of our honeymoon. It followed 4 crazy days in Vegas and a week aboard a luxury cruise ship-we were lucky and spoiled before arrival. So when we turned up at this hotel, my first impressions were not great. It is rough around the edges and the food was nowhere near what we had been used to (tiny selection and limited options). However, you have to see past that. On day two, my impression changed. We realised the hotel next door was also part of this hotel, so far more sun beds, selections of food and swimming pools (3 extra). The beach is also better next door (don’t listen to the finicky people getting all upset about seaweed-it’s natural and totally fine. The water is still super clear and beautifully warm). The twinning of the hotels means there are two buffet breakfasts available each morning; one for each location, with cereal, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses and freshly prepared omelettes available in both dining areas. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are clean and tidy, there is a pizza parlour, a separate (open plan) Thai restaurant (called ‘Sushi’, but it does NOT serve sushi food-don’t get confused, like we did). This restaurant has a young chef who cooks in front of a horseshoe of tables, so he talks to you in your language and explains the ingredients etc. This is excellent. The hotel buffet area next door doubles as an al a carte Mexican restaurant in the evenings. Both of these restaurants must be booked in advance. I particularly liked the bar area at the hotel next door, which has a burger/hot dog bar next to it. Food served most of the afternoon and is very tasty. I would say the hotel is let down a little by the decor-it is tired and needs money spending on it. The steps both inside and outside are broken in places and the walls are painted in a slapdash fashion, with brush strokes over lights and switches etc. so this is a shame. I have been to hotels all over Europe (Turkey, Greece, Italy etc) and marble floors and ceilings are the norm. This is not that! It seriously lacks a bar area to sit at-like every other hotel I have been to. There are three bar areas (two at the main hotel and one next door), but you do have to queue for drinks, before leaving for the next person to be served; you can’t really sit and chill at the bar. There is a good range of soft and alcoholic drinks and the bar staff are quite quick. Despite being very basic, our room had a decent bathroom with a modern shower and a free safe and excellent AC and huge TV (we switched on just once). It also had a small fridge, topped up daily with two bottles of water by the cleaning staff. There is so much right at this hotel-the staff are fun and sing and dance with the vacationers, they put on a Mexican Night (I think each week), with a great dance show and some really delicious food outside and the staff are all very good indeed-friendly and willing to help. I also loved the wildlife-the iguanas and the peacocks especially. The grounds are very well kept and the hotel opens onto a lovely little beach and the warm sea, with incredible scenery. There is also an inflatable ‘assault course’ in the sea and little ac gym-but we didn’t use either of these. I would say this is a lovely little hotel, much like a three star in Europe. It is rough in places, but that’s just the decor. If you can see past that and want a good stay in a clean environment with beautiful views, friendly bar staff and fairly decent food choices, this would be a decent option.

Hotels in the hotel zone of Cancun are generally expensive and budget options are limited. Hotel Dos Playas Faranda is an affordable all-inclusive option in this area. Well located near a public bus stop, with public buses going in one direction to the rest of the hotel zone and in the other direction to downtown Cancun (from where you can get an ADO bus to the airport). Check-in was efficient and friendly. Manager Yeing and receptionist Daniel kindly upgraded me to a sea-view room on check-in. The rooms close to the main central swimming pool might be a little noisy with music playing in that area, but my room was quiet and there are other rooms located even further away from the main pool area for those who value peace and quiet. The restaurant had a good selection of buffet meals which varied somewhat from day. Note that at some times of the day (e.g. the start of breakfast time) the main restaurant can be busy. Apart from the main restaurant there is fast food area, a sushi bar and a pizza oven. In the evenings the sushi bar area instead serves a multi-course Thai-style dinner, which was very enjoyable (and for which you should make a free reservation on the day). There is a pleasant swimming beach in front of the hotel which continues in front of the neigboring Riu hotels. And the hotel grounds include a lawn area with roaming peacocks. Overall this is a very good option for those looking for an affordable option in Cancun's hotel zone: kind and attentive staff, a relaxed vibe, good location and value for money. I would stay again.

We had such a great experience at Hotel Dos Playas. We arrived early and they accomdated us, got us into our room early, and even gave us a place to rest until the room was fully ready. Gustavo at the front desk was absolutely wonderful and took great care of us. We actually ended up coming back for another night at the end of our vacation because we had such a great experience. The wildlife around the resort are amazing and the ocean view rooms are lovely. Will definitely come back!

We stay here through 2 weeks on honeymoon. It was the perfect time thanks to the best service like: Guadalupe, Adrian, Daniel and Alex. They was always very helpfull and nice. They care about ourselves very well. The food is very tradicional, drinks are delicious and it's many choice. :D. Hotel care about different activities too. Like a Mecxican Fiesta with a local food and live music. The rooms are old but very clean. The Beach is small but with the beautiful views. Good localisation. It was perfect time and we recommended this place for people who want to have the best holiday! Ps. Best regards for eggs man, who make the best egss to the breakfast ever ❤

Well, where do I start? KEEP LOOKING!! That’s the best advice I can give anyone…… it all went wrong as son as we arrived! On arrival we checked in as normal that was fine, staff wouldn’t stray from their script to answer any questions- fair enough you have to get through a lot, however….. after checking in we asked about the bar and restaurant as was thinking it’s been a long (10 hour flight and 2 hours waiting for baggage) and could really do with a sit down to unwind and a drink before going to the room. “NO this is not possible “ (it’s only about 8pm) you need to get a wrist band to go to bar” ok where do we get that? You pay for all inclusive to be able to use the bar and restaurant (40usd each a day) I just wanted a drink why can’t we just pay at the bar, “ we don’t do that here” so that was a no as it doesn’t say ANYTHING about this on the website. -Talking of websites pay NO attention to the pictures they have on their, they are very well doctored and amended to look stunning ( come on we all have done this on instagram I should have spotted it sooner and really wish I had)- So we decline and was going to go to the room Instead only to be told to wait….. what we had to wait for was hilarious, a security guard took us to the room, in all honesty I thought he was going to carry bags up all the stairs he made us go up and down but no not in the slightest he was showing us the room! Well let me tell you about this room… THE ROOM- The room was absolutely disgusting, it was dark, dirty, falling apart and I don’t want to talk about the bathroom, we looked at each other and said “No, we are NOT staying in this” so we said the the gard who was showing us about the 3ft by 3ft shoeboxe of a room that we want to go back to reception- for some reason (language barrier maybe) he just kept showing us the fridge, that’s lovely I said but it’s dirty much like the rest of this room (over looking the reception and car park with a small window on each wall that didn’t open! We walked off leaving the gard to play with the fridge (each to their own I guess) and went in reception to change rooms as we are not staying in that room after all the money and travelling (the room wouldn’t even get 1 star in the uk), we was met by a member of staff eating something which was all over his face (nice look lol) and explained the situation he looked at us like this was an absolute shock and had never heard anyone say the rooms are awful (however after we had a proper dig around at reviews we found them, lots of them all saying the same this “ it’s a sh*t hole”! The receptionist told us they are fully booked so can’t move (absolute nonsense as we always asked if we wanted a double or 2 singles but in the space of 5 minutes they were fully booked). Ok so I was tired, hot and getting rather bored of repeating the fact that the room was unsatisfactory, so I agreed to stay in the room until check out time (11 in the morning) and getting a new room in the morning (or so I thought). So after gingerly getting into the lumpiest bed I’ve ever slept on and trying hard not to need to use the bathroom, was woke and went to breakfast…. BREAKFAST- what a disaster that was it was only open 15 minutes before we got there and was decimated! Hardly anything there for the average person and as I anticipated (hence the reluctance to shell out for a all inclusive band) Nothing for vegetarians only some warm fruit with added flies (once again I’m vegetarian so flies are definitely not on the menu, thank you), coffee and a banana it is then- coffee was absolutely disgusting wasn’t even warm it was cold and takes like dirty river water. After that fantastic filling breakfast we went to reception to change room only to be told we had to wait until 3 for check in time! WTF? Surely if a customer is not happy with the service or services the company would like to pull out a few stops and make it a bit pleasant for you!! No not at all they were not helpful or happy about changing the room, so I asked for the manager- well she was a sour as the yogurt they was trying to serve for breakfast- wasn’t helpful, apologetic or even bothered that a customer was not completely satisfied, in fact, she just scoured us across the desk and told us that the company only does wristbands they don’t do pay as you go, and that was the end of that! So before I really kicked off and got kicked out of an awful hotel in the middle of nowhere and a country I didn’t know I walked off and went to the beach ( without a towel as the took the tickets back from us until check in time like I was going to steal the cheep towel) and sat in the very humid sun, without the ability to even get a drink (as we don’t have an all inclusive band on), THE BEACH- if it wasn’t for the amazing beautiful sea and the small beach I think I would had took my chances in the wild that stayed in that place any longer than I had but it was definitely worth it and something the hotel didn’t have a monopoly over so that was a bonus. Hours passed and we finally went to reception (still no shower after the long flight and hot days) at 3pm to check in to the new room, THE NEW ROOM- was a tab better than the last as it had a balcony and working air conditioner and was a little cleaner (still not great, but better). All showered and ready to unpack and unwind this is the point in time that they decided to start drilling in a room underneath somewhere and a guy with a loud speaker also wanted to join in with his shouting about boat parties in the car park next door. So not only was it very noisy and still dirty and run down I couldn’t deal with going back to reception and feeling like I had put everyone’s life into a massive inconvenience so tried to tune it out, in the end give up and went back out to the beach for a nap. Later that night after we found our way around town to get some dinner and relax we come back to the hotel for the evening and to finally after two days of barely any sleep and early night to start tomorrow as a nice new day! That was promptly interrupted after a few hours a room below us, decided they would have a party with some other guests, loud music, shouting the girls screaming (I was young once and probably was a bit loud too but would always be aware of the fact that it’s a hotel and people maybe sleeping) so we knocked on the door to ask them to keep it down and was met with loud cheers and another guy (who had apparently come to ask them to chill and keep the noise down). The American guy who wasn’t even in that room he was in a different room but was outside the door of the “party room” and insisted on having a go at me because I wanted them to be a bit quieter and more respectful of other guests (like me sleeping), he was becoming very rude so sent for security to rectify this situation, they did not let’s just say that, the American guy just kept shouting and being an absolute idiot and getting rattled because we wanted someone else to keep the. Noise down, after he did a lot of shouting he then said to my husband “what are you a f*cking retard”!! I was absolutely disgusted and was very angry now but the security guard just laughed and stood there watching like it was a bloody Netflix special so a walked away before I give the guy a Glasgow kiss with my husband back to the room with continued abuse from the guy about us being British and not knowing anything about anything and the funniest part of it was the fact that he added that I didn’t even speak know how to speak English (both born in the uk and speak very well and have done since birth thank you)!, We then spent the remainder of the holiday out of the hotel and away from this nightmare of a place, ignorant customers and incompetent staff! Tried to enjoy what was left of the holiday and do same days out and find some relief from the hotel and we managed to do this without the help from the sour patch staff and finally started to enjoy the holiday (3days in), HOWEVER! We did not get one night of decent sleep in the hotel it was impossible with the drilling, banging, man with the loud speaker and people dragging chairs across rooms for no apparent reason! So No, I definitely do NOT recommend this hotel, pick another one, there and hundreds more around the place, the hotels on both side looked very nice so maybe try them, it’s can’t be any worse than this one! So to the general public who are looking for a nice getaway, hang in there you will Find it, this clearly isn’t it but you will find it. Unless you are looking for something for Halloween or maybe even to send a disliked mother-in-law, just don’t tell them And switch your phone off it will be hilarious and the worst this you could do! Before you reply with that standard response “thank you for your comment…… nonsense maybe the owner should take a few hours to read these reviews and maybe take some action!
