We were treated like family with so much care and kindness. The children were charming and the food, especially the coffee, was the best. Fresh local produce and the sweetest fruit for breakfast. The room opened onto a closed patio in the traditional style and we were given absolute privacy when we needed it and made a part of the... More

When I travel I tend to stay in mid-range accommodations. At $75 US per night I was expecting that this place would be consistent with what offered at this price in the area. I was underwhelmed upon arrival, which the host responded to with defensiveness and rudeness. We soon figured out this accommodation was not a match for us or... More

I'm way overdue writing this review, but our stay with Cisco and Dani was phenomenal. There are only two rooms, and it's on a street that is so quiet, that I awoke in the middle of the night and could literally hear nothing but the sound of my own blood rushing through my veins. How can I even describe the... More

We brought our five year old boy and had a blast. Cisco has a lot of knowledge and anecdotes about San Cristóbal and Chiapas in general. You can relax, or engage with the family, very easy, happy experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 day stay at Sol y Luna. In fact, it was the highlight of my trip to San Cristobal. Everything about Sol y Luna was great: the room (tastefully decorated and comfortable), bathroom (spacious with good water pressure and temperature), location (few blocks away from the center), breakfasts (wholesome and tasty), the hosts Cisco and Danni... Cisco, an American living in San Cristobal for many years, and his Honduran wife Danny are both wonderful hosts. Danny speaks enough English to get by when her husband is gone as he was during our stay, and I enjoyed practicing some Spanish with her. The B&B has apparently been there for the many years of Cisco's residence and during... More

This was a great experience. Like other posters have mentioned, the 3 children play a major role in your stay here. As teachers, we enjoyed interacting with them each day, but could see how it might irritate some. That said, it was a wonderful place to stay and a good base from which to explore the town. Located on a... More

We enjoyed staying at the Sol y Luna Bed and Breakfast. Cisco's advice was spot-on. He knows the best restaurants in town and has been to all the outlying attractions--and in fact, he runs one of them himself. His wife, and his kids are charming and we enjoyed our time with them. The twin toddler boys are a lot of... More

We spend 3 nights at Sol y Luna, on the recommendation of some friends. We weren't disappointed. It's an old building, so don't expect perfect flat surfaces, or pristine minimalism. The whole (amazing) complex is like a cabinet of curiosities and art, with the discovery each day of something new and delightful! It was freezing (but apparently warm for December)... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sol y Luna is an ideal location for couples, families or an individual wanting quiet, privacy and a feeling of living in their own home. We are located, on a quite side street, in one of the original barrios of San Cristobal close to the centro, an easy 7 minute walk, to the mercado 3 minutes and to Sto. Domingo church 3 minutes. The B&B is beautifully decorated, with lush orchid filled gardens to relax and for children to play and a free full breakfast is our specialty. We offer, SOL, with two beds, a queen and a twin, ideal for a family, with an elegant en suite full bathroom. The home is elegantly and beautifully decorated with art from Mexico and the owners travels around the world. The B&B can help you with all travel related needs, from where to have your clothes washed to exploring hidden treasures in San Cristobal or in one of the nearby indigenous communities, to Maya ruins further away. You will remember your time fondly at Sol y Luna and want to return. Cisco can help you arrange or guide you on tours that explore the hidden side, the magical calles, the little visited areas of Chiapas. His 20 years in Chiapas have given him a vast knowledge of this magical land. ... more   less
