Ideally located, very central. Nice and clean but smallish rooms; we booked two next to each other in order to afford us two -- and our luggage -- some space to spread out. Also, there is an annoying (near-total) lack of drawers and shelves. NO HEAT is provided during cold nights, although there are a couple of layers of blankets on the beds and wood fireplaces in the rooms (which we didn't trust). We bought small space heaters that worked fine -- but bringing / purchasing your own space heaters in order to get comfortable in a hotel that pretends to be four stars is ridiculous. ABSOLUTELY WORST problem with this hotel: The water temperature, just luke-warm during our first nights, eventually dropped to COLD for our last few nights, making it impossible to take showers. None of our complaints -- and the complaints of other guests traveling in our group, including Spanish speakers -- did any good. And since the hotel had asked for full payment in advance, we were all stuck with it.

Right around the corner from the main plaza, restaurants, bars, cafes, the pedestrian street, just in the middle of everything. We stayed in the old part of the hotel and had rooms going out onto the patio. Very big rooms, the bathroom is a little small though, fireplace which we didn't use. Very quiet, nice patio to sip coffee or a drink. They also serve breakfast. Parking is in the back.

Well placed to centre of town - bout 10 minute walk Basic room with roofed small balcony You could get wood for room fire if cold??? Breakfast reasonable but evening meals poor and staff rather sullen The good location means you can access better restaurants and bars on foot

I stayed here for 2 nights as part of a group tour. The hotel is very centrally located near the cathedral, but the streets are quite narrow so larger vehicles can't access the hotel directly. Fortunately the hotel has a small van to transport luggage from a coach drop off to the hotel, and we only had to walk a few streets. The hotel seemed to have two sites very near to each other which was a bit confusing at first. It's a very historical building, it's very pretty and has lots of character. We were offered welcome cocktails on arrival which were very nice. The hotel is deceptively large, it looks small from the outside and initial courtyard but it's actually quite spread out. There are no lifts at the hotel, and as I was on the 2nd floor and far from the reception it was a bit of a walk with luggage. My room was nice and had a cosy feel to it, big enough and it even had a fireplace. The beds were a little hard but ok. The bathroom was quite nice, there was no bath tub but a large shower, and the water pressure and temperature was perfectly acceptable. The breakfast at the hotel was quite good. It was a buffet with a good selection, and someone making fresh omelettes. The only thing that was absent was regular bread, but there were lots of other items such as jelly and creme caramel. Overall I had a very pleasant stay, I'm not quite sure whether I would give it a full 4 stars but it's definitely higher than 3.

Although this is quite an old building, the hotel is lovely and well maintained. When we arrived we were checked in quickly and efficiently. We noticed there were no towels in the room, but this was also quickly rectified. The towels are however a bit old and thin. The bed is amazingly comfortable and the room is spacious and nicely decorated. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the restaurant is lovely. The courtyard is gorgeous and the location of the hotel is great.

The main square around the courtyard is beautiful. Well maintained with lots of potted plants and greenery. We stayed in the bridal suite, which was spacious and clean. And resonant priced! Just a block away from the cathedral and plaza. The staff was very helpful. We didn’t stay in the newer, three story section. So I can’t speak for that one. But the older hacienda style square is breathtaking. The food/buffet was decent. There are better places to eat nearby. Also, they have a man selling jewelry at the front desk/lobby area. He gave us weird vibes. Every time we left, he made a comment like “you’re heading out again?! You’re gonna be out all day?” And it just felt creepy that he stands there all day and he knows who comes and goes. Also, there are two sections to this hotel, across the street from one another. We stayed in the section across from the telas modernas store. This section is more beautiful than the other one.

We stayed here only 2 nights in our tour around southern Mexico. It is 2 story building with beautiful courtyard in the middle. Each room has its own balcony looking internally or externally as well as fireplace. Rooms were spacious and interestingly San Cristobal was the coldest place where we stayed. Therefore in the winter this fireplace service would be very great and cozy. We also enjoyed our American breakfast. In Some other hotels we stayed it was very basic. Here we had a great selection of dishes to choose from! Service was excellent too and food quality really nice. Would highly recommend this place. Location was brilliant too right in the town center next to main square

Stayed for 2 nights in March for a grand tour across Mexico, we stayed in a standard room including American Breakfast. The room was large with a very large bed, fireplace, tiny wardrobe and safe which didn't work. I rang reception and they spoke no English and got nowhere. Next morning spoke to reception with our guide as translator to say it's broken and still wasn't fixed by the time we got back nor an explanation. The bathroom is large however the window is to the corridor so anybody can hear you discharging your spicy nachos from dinner....lovely. also anybody tall enough can see in. The shower takes a minimum of 20 minutes to get tepid but it's mostly cold. Very minimum toiletries are supplied but there is an iron and board plus hairdryer. No kettle or coffee making equipment nor a fridge. Breakfast was in the courtyard and the selection does cover most bases but if your vegetarian or vegan your gonna struggle. Also even though we sat in a lovely courtyard with fountain we were harassed by street sellers and beggars whilst eating. The hotel reception just let them walk in and thought that was ok. If you're a light sleeper bring earplugs, the entire hotel is an echo chamber and every laugh, conversation, talking can be heard in your room and doors closing rattle your door. The hotel is a lot larger than appears on the street and runs parallel to the main pedestrian street with all shops and restaurants. You are right in the centre of the town and easy walking distance to most things. The canyon is about 1.5 hours away depending on traffic. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive however the only reason it gets 2 stars not 1 is they made a nice packup for breakfast on an early checkout. I have stayed in charming hotels and even converted monasteries and I'm afraid this is just a bad hotel masquerading as an authentic rustic hotel.
