Detailed Reviews
A stable and friendly staff keep the place astonishingly clean. Spacious and comfortable. Minor drawbacks are what seems to be weak wifi and interior noise -- rooms are built around a three story indoor atrium subject to echoing, and rooms that give on to the street are unfortunately within easy earshot of a pretty busy nightspot. Get an inside room. And the price and location are both spot on.

Pros: Spacious, central hostel with cheap beds. Friendly staff, nice patio with a nice view onto Monte Alban and the city, table tennis and fitness room available. Not a party hostel. Has a kitchen. Free water and coffee. Clean. Laundry around the corner.
Cons: I wasn't explained anything during the checkin, the staff speak hardly English (some don't at all which I find an absolute no-go for the size of this hostel) and the new guy there was absolutely not knowledgable about a lot of things an employee there should know. Helpful though.
The kitchen equipment was bad. There was always a lack of spoons and glasses/cups. Moreover, there were no designated areas for "I'm leaving, take this stuff if you want to" and nobody put his name and departure date onto the stuff in the fridge. I recommended those things but it wasn't implemented (although a simple piece of cardboard would have done).
The room was quiet only from ~23:30 to ~07:30. Some trucks and motorbikes were extremely loud.
NO internet connection directly on my room 123, but there was enough space outside to sit where there is a connection. But even there, there was sometimes 10% packetloss and a ping of >200ms depending on how many people were using the internet.
Well, overall a good experience but the hotel should definately improve on the kitchen situation.

It really has the best location in Oaxaca! Right next to the markets, great street food, Mina Street. Easy to find. Great hosts and price. Beds are a little too firm but not flimsy, which is good.
The only downside: they say no smoking but we were stuck on a floor near a room with a man who kept smoking and it was very heavy. We had our baby and I didn't want him to be exposed to that so when I complained, one of the girls said there was nothing she could do about that! It's the rules! If you say "No smoking" there should be no smoking and consequences for the guests who smoke! I really wasn't happy about that.
But besides that, great location.

Lovely staff, but even the top level private rooms are noisy as hell. The wifi is nonexistent anywhere near the room's and was not reliable in the common areas... which are not comfortable at all. The kitchen is a shambles! For a hostel that size the one small fridge is not enough and there is only 1 proper knife and chopping board and ZERO forks or spoons except for a couple of plastic ones someone left behind from their take out meal... close to the worst kitchen of any hostel I've stayed in. Really fail to see why this place is rated so highly.

This hostal is a great location 5 mins from zocolo. It is clean and tidy and the manager is very friendly . They clean the showers and toilets regularly.
Three tips : keep your cleaners quiet in the morning as we are still sleeping at 8 And the noise echoes
Get fans in the bedrooms please
Sack your night porter as he is rude, miserable and wrong in how he does his job. He doesn’t know your policies and he is a stain on your hostal. I would have given you 5 stars if he wasn’t there.

I've stayed at Andaina Hostal two times. The staff is great, the price is very reasonable and the location is in the heart of El Centro. Even though it's located on a busy street, noise at night has never been a problem for me.

A reasonable, cheap hostel in the centre of Oaxaca was all we wanted, and that's what we got. This is a no thrills hostel, only to be recommended if you intend on spending a very little amount of time actually inside it.
The layout of the hostel resembles a prison with a large courtyard communal area in the middle that seemed to be empty the whole time we were there.
The rooms have no aircon and our room had windows that opened inside the courtyard, so it was a) so loud we couldn't sleep because some tourists were playing their music into the night and b) extremely hot due to the lack of breeze!
If you're staying here, desperately ask for a room that has outwards facing windows for this exact reason!
On the plus, the staff are friendly and helpful, and looked after our stuff while we did a tour to the pueblos!

This is definitely one of the best value hotel/hostels I've ever stayed in, after 70 countries. Got a private room web double bed for the cost of a bunk bed in most other places, perfectly clean rooms and bathrooms, good internet everywhere,
Perfect location in the center, friendly staff and of course the owners Pilar and her husband are some of the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. A huge bonus for motorcyclist or drivers: they include free parking at a safe guarded underground garage around the corner.
Can't recommend this place highly enough!

+1
When arrived late she waited for me, when I left late, they also weren't against :)
Overall staff attitude is awesome.
The hostel is very attractive for art-lovers as it has very figurative building and interior.
Andaina is very good for accessing any center POI, and it also has marvellous balconies with barbeque facilities and rooftop access.
And all of this for poo peanuts.
