We had a fabulous trip to Oaxaca for the Day of the Dead celebration. Loved staying at Casa Machaya during our 10 day visit. Alvin and Arlene live in a lovely home, 3 miles from the centre of town. One of them gave us a lift into town each day and we made our own way back. We usually took...

Our trip to Oaxaca was our best trip to Mexico yet, and we owe much of our pleasure to Casa Machaya and the Starkmans. From the moment we walked through the door, Alvin and Arlene went out of their way to make us feel welcome and secure. We had plenty of hot water for showers and a kitchen stocked with...

I stayed here with my adult daughter and teenage son for a week in June, 2014. We had a wonderful stay. My son and I shared the main guest room adjacent to the outdoor kitchen. My daughter stayed upstairs in a separate bedroom with its own bath. The set up is very private and the space is huge. Alvin and...

My husband and I stayed for a little over 2 weeks at Casa Machaya. Alvin and Arlene are great hosts, and after living for several years in Oaxaca they really can recommend all sorts of things to do and see. Their house is beautiful with all sorts of interesting local art throughout. Alvin's tours are really interesting as well; he...

Last year, my wife and I spent the entire month of February at Casa Machaya, and booked the month of February 2014 before returning home to Canada as we were so very impressed by our accommodations and by the friendliness and expert service provided by Alvin and Arlene Starkman. This year, however, my wife was unable to make the trip,...

Like living in a museum of fine mexican art. Made to feel at home and welcome by Alvin and Arlene. Just minutes to downtown by taxi. Alvin's knowledge of the area is superb and a day tour is a must. Alvin is fluent in spanish and knows all the special eating establishments. A very safe and enjoyable vacation at Casa...

Casa Machaya is a beautiful home in a lovely, residential neighborhood of Oaxaca. Our family stayed in the very nice, well maintained guest suite (one of two accommodations available) consisting of a large combined bedroom/sitting room; a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed; bathroom with shower; and a large, lovely patio that also serves as the kitchen and dining area....

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Machaya Oaxaca Bed and Breakfast. Casa Machaya is a beautiful home in an interesting location. During our stay we made a trip to visit boutique mezcal distilleries with Alvin Starkman, which was fascinating. However, a subsequent visit to artesanias Casa Santiago with Alvin was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. We had...

Alvin and Arlene have set up their bed and breakfast very thoughtfully, with as much privacy or access to the hosts as you like. Only one family at a time stays in the lower 2 floors of their beautiful home, with a private outdoor kitchen and patio, and spectacular views. They are very knowledgeable and helpful about what to do...

Stayed 17 days beginning of November at Casa Machaya in Oaxaca. Had a lovely time. Patio overlooking the lights of the city, well equipped kitchen that we prepared breakfast and half our dinners in. Large bedroom, DVD equipped widescreen TV. It was as comfortable as home but with a setting far more exotic. Would return in a flash Alvin and...
