I spent several days in Oaxaca in early October, 2019, traveling with a friend for my son's destination wedding. We booked the Luna room which is the only room on the second floor overlooking the central courtyard where breakfast is served. There is a terrace just outside the room available to all guests, but feels like our own. Lovely place to sit & relax. Our room was charming, clean and comfortable. I can't say enough about the friendly service. Duñia, Rodrigo and Fernando were all cheerful, helpful with local information, and spoke English fluently which made it that much easier to communicate. The location is a few blocks from the hot spots in town, close enough for convenience & far enough to allow peace & quiet at night. Breakfast was delicious & freshly prepared, set on a beautiful table. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Book ahead as they are in high demand!

My husband and I stayed at El Diablo y la Sandia for five nights during our honeymoon, and it was our home base as we traveled around the Valley of Oaxaca and Oaxaca City. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough - the staff was incredibly helpful and we instantly felt at home when we arrived. I recommend reserving La Luna room, it's the only room on the second floor and it has a great patio off of the room that overlooks the hotel's courtyard. Breakfast in the morning was always delicious and the resident cat that stalks around the hotel was a total sweetheart. It was a short walk to almost everything we wanted to do in Oaxaca City but far enough away from the Zocalo that it was nice and quiet at night time. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We had a lovely stay at El Diablo y la Sandia. Dunia (and her colleagues) are wonderful hosts, so pleasant and happy to provide recommendations or suggestions. We felt very at home. The location is ideal - a short walk to the center of town, but in a bit of a quieter area away from the hub-bub.

Our room was absolutely charming and the Oaxacas breakfasts each day were tasty and colorful and graciously cooked and served. We loved our stay--we were there 7 nights. The only challenge was the outside noise from the street. With the windows open for circulation, and our location close to the center of the city, we sometimes had to bring out the earplugs.
