We visited Oaxaca in October 2024 for a 5-day getaway, and while we were initially hesitant to book this property due to its higher price compared to other hotels in the area (plus the fact that we’d be out exploring most of the time), we can now confidently say it was worth every penny. In fact, this might just be one of the best city hotels we’ve ever stayed in!

The Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca is in a league of its own, easily falling between a 4.5- to 5-star category. It strikes the perfect balance between exclusivity and comfort, offering a luxurious yet cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The customer service here is truly exceptional—every interaction felt warm, professional, and thoughtful.

Let’s talk about the breakfast buffet: it’s fantastic! While not overly large, it offers a well-curated selection of dishes that change daily. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, and served in a spotlessly clean setting. The variety is more than enough to satisfy everyone, and the calm, welcoming environment makes you feel pampered and indulged.

Our room was incredibly comfortable, though we did have a minor hiccup with the TV system not working properly. We reported the issue, and within 5 minutes, an engineer was at our door. When it became clear the problem couldn’t be fixed immediately, the staff offered to move us to another room—and they handled everything seamlessly. The entire process, from reporting the issue to settling into our new room, took about 15 minutes. Their professionalism and commitment to customer care were truly impressive.

One thing we couldn’t help but notice (and love!) was the distinctive, refined aroma in the hotel’s corridors. It smelled clean, fresh, and luxurious—just another small detail that added to the overall experience.

Location-wise, the hotel couldn’t be better. It’s centrally located, just a 5-minute walk from the Templo de Santo Domingo and the Andador Turístico, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the city.

We would absolutely return to this property in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Oaxaca. It’s a gem that delivers on every level!

Oddly, give it a five out of five. Why the doubt? It’s located on busy streets that aren’t terribly attractive. Close to the center. But the hotel is whisper quiet. Why? They built down as opposed to up and many of the rooms face a central courtyard. The rooms themselves are lovely, with great bed, nice furnishings and decent shower. Service is impeccable and should be given the number of people around looking after you. It has a great gym (but would do with yoga mats rather than stretch on rubber walked-on floor) with plenty of equipment. Nice restaurant. I’d definitely stay again.

Hotel with a good location 7 - 14 minutes walk from the city center and restaurants. The hotel is in front of a park with many activities and life. The staff is attentive at all times. The rooms are comfortable, but there are no options to "upgrade" for being a platinum member, the maximum is to place you on the Fiesta Rewards floor and give you a complimentary drink, but they only give a room upgrade to Titanium members according to the words of the reception staff. The prices of taxis requested at the hotel are double or more than what it costs to take a taxi on the street, which are also safe. Example, a taxi requested at the hotel to Monte Alban charges 500 pesos, taken on the street costs 200 pesos. The cleanliness of the hotel is good and in general it is a good hotel, clean and with very good amenities. The pool is fine, except that if there are children screaming it is uncomfortable because when it is covered the screams "rebound" and are amplified.

This is an upscale newer property. From the greeting of staff on the street to reception personnel we were treated at a very high level.
There are many amenities including a gym, pool, Starbucks kiosk, 2 bars and a restaurant.
Our room was very well appointed with charging stations and light controls on both sides of the bed, sitting area, excellent lighting, and bathroom amenities including a really nice clothes steamer device, large TV which had a smart feature allowing me to connect my iPhone to Spotify and Netflix.
We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to all our friends.

This hotel was just wonderful. The premises are brand new, rooms are very confortable and if you close the shutters the room will turn pitch black if you want to seep through the morning. It has a pool and a jacuzzi with a very nice setting. Service and hospitality is the best thing. Locationwise it is 3 blocks away from Santo Doming Church which is the trendiest location in Oaxaca (Avoid the Zocalo).

Besides being a beautifully decorated hotel (e.g., Oaxacan vases in the hallways and in the rooms), the service at the @grandoaxaca, was delightful. From check-in to check-out, their entire staff truly makes you feel welcome! The breakfast buffet was fabulous, serving those elaborate Oaxacan stews and egg dishes for breakfast that seem more like they should be for dinner, but you are in Oaxaca now, and its gastronomical offering is known as “live cultural heritage”, and something worth being proud of. We also thoroughly enjoyed their unique spa services, which included a 3-pool experience after our massage. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel. We know where we will be coming back to when we return to Oaxaca next!

The hotel has a very careful design and an unbeatable location, you have the most interesting sites less than 10 minutes away. walking.
The rooms are very comfortable and the pool is a very good option for a moment of relaxation, the gym is a good size and has the minimum necessary for your routine. Although we only consumed breakfast at the hotel, the restaurants are a good option if you don't want to go out to eat.
One of the best hotel options to stay.

We enjoyed our time at the Grand Fiesta. The hotel is centrally located in the historic part of town. Breakfast was served in the restaurant which also had a open air courtyard with a retractable roof. This was great for eating breakfast outside in the mornings. We are still cautious with COVID so this was a big plus. At lunch they close the roof since it gets hot. The room was spacious and comfortable, but the bed a little hard. Bathroom was super nice. Unfortunately the pool is enclosed. You can't tell from the pictures but there is a glass ceiling, which was a huge bummer for us because it was one of the main reasons we picked this hotel. Also, we refrained from using housekeeping because they didn't wear masks when coming into the room.

A very beautiful and harmonious hotel.
The decoration of the hotel is phenomenal, I think that is what makes it selection to enjoy the amenities, central and accessible to visit Oaxaca (and its infrastructure represents the Biodiversity of the state.

The bad:
- The cleanliness of the room leaves a lot to be desired for the hotel category (I suggest focusing on this issue)
- Verify with the staff that you do not knock on the room door when you have the DO NOT DISTURB card.
- Respect opening hours of the cafeteria or, if applicable, change its opening hours on promotional occasions.
- Verify that the accessories in the cafeteria area are stocked (on Tuesday there was no cream for the Frappe)
- Respect guest privacy

Actions that made a stay bad in my personal perception, even though there was an approach from Guest Services (I feel it was very invasive) and learning to respect the NO.

First, join Fiesta Rewards, you get points toward gift cards and rooms, but also get a special rate. Mid week is much cheaper than weekends.

A brand new property with high end finishes. Rooms are not huge but laid out efficiently. Bathrooms have L’Occitane products, two sinks and a rain shower. The restaurant is open air which I liked during COVID. Service was attentive, but I ate most meals outside the hotel as the food is sooo good in Oaxaca. I had to ask the hotel several times to remind guests of the hotel policy to wear masks.

Main complaint is they are not quite prepared for English speaking visitors, with limited English speaking employees(this is also the charm of Oaxaca)and the concierge was not as informed as I would have hoped but there are great travel blogs to help.

Hired a guide for one day so I understood the history, lay out of the city, and explored the local markets.

Bottom line, a really nice hotel with great prices.
