Travelers' Choice
Experience the most legendary hotel in Mexico. Avant-garde elegance and first class service are characteristics that the Hotel Geneve has maintained throughout the more than one hundred years since its inception. The architecture and decoration bring to mind a classical European style. The many antiques and pieces of art have become an integral facet of this museum hotel. Located in the heart of the famous Zona Rosa, the hotel is just a couple of blocks away from one of the most important avenues in the country, the well known Paseo de la Reforma. The Hotel is within walking distance of business and leisure areas which include many restaurants, bars, clubs, museums and the Centro Historico, or Historic City Center.

Desperate need of an update, the pictures are nothing like the real thing - except the lobby. Rooms were so outdated, I understand it's a "historic hotel".. historic doesn't mean you should have broken leaking fixtures, shower liner that's well over 50 years old, tile is cracking, shower curtain way too small to where water floods outsode the tub, cheap spring mattress, and carpet that is old and dirty. I would never stay here again or recommend to anyone. Only thing good and actually matches the pictures is the lobby bar area, the staff is also friendly.. particularly the bellman Daniel.

A great classic hotel in the middle of Mexico City. Although we were in the center our room was very quiet. The hotel is historic. Winston Churchill stayed here back in the day. Our room was a bit dated, but that wasn’t a problem for us. Breakfast was just okay. Highly recommended.

I booked this hotel without much research as a last minute place to stay near the pickup point for an all day tour we were doing, and WOW! I was so blown away! This place is like being transported back to the 1920s and is so luxurious. I literally double-checked my receipt because I couldn't believe how inexpensive it had been for the setting. Just the decor is unreal, gorgeous. Staff is 5 star, valets in suits everywhere. So many quirky little touches like the old phones on the walls and the safes behind the concierge desk and the tiny barbershop in a random back corner of the hotel. The Phone Bar felt so swanky with great live music, and the breakfast place attached, Buenos Diaz, was so charming as well (the checks were given on tiny musicbox typewriters!). I loved it so much here, I wish we had been able to stay longer.

Really beautiful interiors with lots of old world charm, the hotel looks and feels like a Victorian hotel. There are lots of options for eating and drinking. We had a problem with the aircon not working - the manager immediately upgraded up to a suite, really satisfactory rectifying of a problem.

It’s a pretty impressive hotel in the middle of the Zona Rosa. Kind of like having an old style London Hotel in the middle of Bourbon St. The rooms are a bit dated but the decor is impeccable. Breakfast is your typical buffet with American and Mexican food. The WiFi is spotty at best, unreliable at worst. I was initially told that check out was at 1 pm but had a housekeeper banging on my door at 10 and 11 am! Other than that it was a good experience.

What a disappointment! Seduced by the website photos I was looking forward to my stay but the rooms and quality of the hotel are below par, especially for the price. This hotel claims it is 5 stars. A hundred years ago, maybe it was, now it is 3 stars at best. The breakfast food is stodgy and bland, like a boarding school’s. The concierge is clueless. The rest of the staff were nice enough but not particularly helpful. But the room was the biggest disappointment, small and dated and tired. Very poorly managed hotel and very poor value for money. Also the location, while central is quite seedy at night.

Truly a ghastly old relic of a hotel . Arrogant staff trained badly , no one even tried to speak English . Shocking bedrooms and even worse bathrooms . Filthy bedroom carpets , corridors stank of cleaning products , smoke and mould . Bathrooms are totally disgusting with rusting broken pipes taps and tiles , shower sprayed everywhere on the floor , water from taps and shower tasted and smelt disgusting like mould ! Don’t waste your time or money until it’s had a major revamp and facelift . It’s hideous ! The only good point was the excellent chef in the main dining room , excellent food alas you have to deal with the ignorant waiters who can’t speak a word of English , at least not the one we had who brought us the wrong main course … even though we were the only ones in the restaurant ! Major communication problem ! But always eager to demand a tip !

Beautiful and very historic hotel in fantastic neighborhood. Some fussy kinds of restrictions--e.g. gym only opens at 7 am. But worth staying in for special ambiance. Ask for a quiet room and you can get one (or I did anyway...)
