Great property 20 minute wall to central square. Large rooms, great bathrooms(lighting is a bit weird) but all in all great (Roche Bobois furnishings throughout). Some had problems with English with may have explained why it was difficult to get meal/drink service at the pool! Might also be because it's quite a trec from th resto to the outdoor pool at the rear of the property. The property itself is deceivingly larger than it looks from the outside but not in a negative way. It's beautiful and we had a great stay.

I went to this place a months ago, the experience for me was incredible! The food was awesome, I really enjoyed it. The service looked kind of slow, but I discovered that it was excellent, I had the opportunity to meet famous people there! I found out that rock stars and actors go there. They brought out special packages for families last winter so I decided to go there! It´s kind of expensive, but if you really want to have a great time do not think twice, go there and have a pleasant experience. I really recommend it.

This hotel is a large villa with connected buildings that spread up a small hill, resulting in units in the back being higher than those toward the front. This hotel is a 20-minute walk outside of the center of town, something we really appreciated given the hustle and bustle (and noise) down in the center. Taxis are ubiquitous. Think of this as a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle. There are plenty of nice places to lounge around, from chairs near a smart looking pool to and indoor pool to numerous other table and sitting areas. We enjoyed hanging out on our terrace, though only a few rooms have terraces. (We stayed in "Pia," which also had a jacuzzi on the balcony; we did not use it because it seemed like a lot of water to use.) Had very nice (and reasonably priced) massages at the spa. Use of the spa facilities (indoor pool, sauna, and steam room) has a cost if not using the spa, which seemed unusual to me. Maybe it is not enforced, but when staying at a top property, I expect these things to be included. While this property is out of town and away from the mariachi bands (!), there can be noises at night. It is in a valley, so dogs barking in the valley at night can be heard, along with an occasional burro. We could also hear our neighbors clearly at 1:30 p.m. Give thought to room choice. The suites with terraces are obviously top choices. Some of the other rooms are along corridors and do not offer much in the way of views. The staff is attentive and friendly, although we found food service in the restaurant and room to be at a leisurely pace. While this property is not quite up to the standards of the Belmond or Rosewood in San Miguel, it is a very nice property and certainly the best in Guanajuato.

At first we were not so sure if we wanted to stay in a hotel that was not in the center of the city. Once there, we knew we lucked out: Villa Maria Cristina sits among humongous villas and buildings built by the mine owners and the city elite at the end of 1800, some classical, some liberty, very interesting architectures. The hotel consist of multiple connected villas with gardens, pools, patios, walkways, stairs, different levels. Very fun to walk around and discover all those different areas, The spa is amazing and the rooms and bathrooms are so huge you can get lost. All the furniture is in style with the era and very subtle. Very sophisticated hotel at a relatively very cheap price: the Belmond in San Allende was 3 times more and nothing better than this one. Being located out of the center has other benefits: no traffic, no noise, no pollution, and plenty of parking everywhere. Impeccable service.
