Stayed last weekend with my family at the hotel. Service was outstanding, food delicious. Chef Patrick outstanding. We had a Junior Suite, incredible beautiful. We also used the indoor cinema which is a great amenity for our children who could watch movies. We had a couples massage at the Spa with Jenny and Teresa and they did a wonderful job. Facilities are really beautiful. Staff and management always very attentive. Can highly recommend.

First off would like to say this is a beautiful property. The rooms are spacious the grounds are kept well. The paint on the buildings is even well kept up. The patio furniture is new. On an aesthetic view it’s phenomenal. This however cannot make up for the major pains the hotel had. The most frustrating thing is the internet doesn’t work in the rooms. The rooms walls are so thick there is spotty and signal drops all the time you are forced to teather. I changed rooms due to the internet but even with changing rooms it’s the same thing. If you sit outside it’s fine. The other thing that is frustrating is I had my lock box changed twice. One was completely dead and then the second one they brought was so tiny it just fit cash and my passport. Being a luxury 5 star resort I expected more. It’s best to know Spanish as English is limited. The property is far from most local touristy things and there’s not much around it so be prepared to taxi

Dear guest: Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience and stay at the Villa Maria Cristina, member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. I have taken note of your comments regarding the internet / Wi-Fi signal. Hotel Villa Maria Cristina is an historic building and stonewalls are in some parts of the hotel at least 60 cm thick. That is one of the reasons why you may have experienced a weak signal. We are now in the process of upgrading our routers to the newest Wi-Fi 6 standard, using the latest available technology. I am pleased to inform you that now at least 90% of the property has a good Wi-Fi reception. Regarding the safety boxes, we also have changed them to accommodate at least a laptop. Regarding our location, we are located in the ancient Embassy district of Guanajuato, a very upscale and safe neighborhood. The city center is only 15 minutes walking distance away. Due to the way the City is build, with many tunnels and hills and narrow streets, if you don´t want to walk, the very affordable and safe taxis are the best way to move around. On many occasions, whatever your attraction objective is, it may take longer to get there by car then walking because of the layout of Guanajuato, which is why we always encourage our guests to bring comfortable walking shoes along and explore the beauty of this 3 century old city by foot. We are glad that we exceeded in general your lodging, Food & Beverage and your service expectations. On behalf of the entire team and management we hope to be able to welcome you or your family or friends sometime back in the future to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Once again, thank you for posting your constructive review. Yours sincerely, Klaus M. Lapp General Manager

The Villa Maria Christina is a class act without being stuffy. The rooms are spacious with wood floors, art, nice cabinetry and a very comfortable bed. A shower and jacuzzi. A hidden benefit: they have their own water purifying system so you can drink out of the tap and don’t have to mess with bottled water — though they do furnish free bottles daily. Breakfasts are delicious with wonderful fruit and made-to-order hot dishes, again quite reasonably priced. We didn’t eat other meals at the hotel, preferring to eat in the Centro as part of absorbing the local culture. The hotel is sited about a 25 minute walk (or US$ 3.00 taxi) to the downtown area, which is a real advantage because the area is very quiet. What separates this property from most hotels is the visible presence of the general manager, Klaus Lapp. He seems to be everywhere, especially checking with guests in a sincere manner (not the usual off-hand comment “how are things going”) and follows through on suggestions or inquiries. I’d return here in a heartbeat :)

The least favorite hotel in four cities in Mexico this trip. The hotel is pretty and the rooms are nice but the service inexplicably is one star at best. Internet was not functioning most of the time on all five of the devices the two couples in our party tried to use in two roms. Answer was: we'll send someone (but didn't), we're working on it, it's the service provider, etc., etc. Pool was not heated and because of location was not useable even though it was warm outside. Told to use the spa which was doors and unfriendly to those not wanting spa treatments. Food at restaurant mediocre with poor service and staffvthat didn't know much about menu. We ate dinner and breakfast. Talked with a manager who passed by briefly during breakfast, smiling and asking how our stay was. Told him about the internet and he merely said his was working and more or less walked away. Cannot recommend this hotel

Guanajuato, March 4, 2020 Dear Guest: Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience and stay at the Villa Maria Cristina, member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, with us. I have read your review very carefully and please accept my sincere apology for not meeting totally your expectations. I have shared your comments with the rest of the team and we continuously train our staff to provide the best guest experience and to exceed our guest expectation. In this occasion we had a minor maintenance issue with the outside pool and could not heat the pool, therefore we invited you to use the heated indoor pool of our Wellness area. We also have reviewed the internet issue and found it to be in working order. Sometimes it can happen that certain devices (certain Apple iPhone models) have difficulties to connect. Internet in this small town due to the geological location (in between hills and valleys) occasionally fails. Understanding how important Internet access is today, we do have a redundancy system and work with three different service providers to minimize downtime and connectivity issues. We are sorry to hear that you were not total y pleased with our Food & Beverage offer. We have many repeat guests who enjoy the fusion cuisine we offer, blending the best and freshest ingredients of local cuisine with international cuisine. On the other hand we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel in general, liked our landscaping, location, amenities, rooms and that you liked the beautiful hotel blend of contemporary Mexican and European architecture, facilities and design and all other services we provide to our guests. It is my understanding that my team tried to assist you to resolve most of the issues you mentioned during your stay. Feedback such as yours is extremely important because they allow me to improve constantly any short fallings in order to provide exceptional and memorable experiences for our guests. On behalf of the entire team and management we hope to be able to welcome you or your family or friends sometime back in the future to Villa Maria Cristina, a destination by itself, located in the beautiful historical City of Guanajuato, an official world heritage site named by the United Nations (UNESCO). Once again, thank you for posting your constructive review. If there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely, Klaus M. Lapp General Manager Villa Maria Cristina
