My girlfriend and I stayed in room 106 for 2 nights at the Hostal Cantarranas on Feb 7-8, 2014. The receptionist kindly allowed me to park my motorcycle by the reception desk. It wasn't so easy to get inside so I was impressed that would allow me to do so. The location of the hotel is superb, very near the Teatro Juarez. There were places to buy drinks and small snacks right next door. The room was big and pleasant and we couldn't hear any traffic noize. Just 1 floor above our room is a rooftop terrace that's good for relaxing with a drink and a good view of the city. The first night was great. We slept like logs and enjoyed everything about Guanajuato. The second night a group enjoyed an evening party until about midnight and then returned from the bar at 4am and continued the party. The walls are fairly thin so we could hear their drunken laughter. Several calls and visits to the reception got them to quiet down a bit. Having earplugs allows us to sleep fine after that. I had the impression that groups come to Guanajuato, rent rooms at the Cantarranas intended for 4-6 people and nip out to a nearby club or two and party all night. Then sleep in the afternoon when they get home. If you want quiet, come on Sunday-Thursday. Or expect some noise and bring some earplugs for weekends. The hotel is a reasonably good value for it's location and rooms. Yes, I would go back, but with earplugs again.…
This place is worth the money you pay. We stayed in a room which was really big and the bed was very comfortable. There was a beautiful view from the terrace. This hostel has a nice atmosphere and is located close to the city centre and a car park where you can leave your vehicle (included in the price). It was a little cold but we had extra blankets :) I would stay there again!
This unique hotel was recommended by a resident of San Miguel de Allende, a nearby town. It wasn't fancy and certainly not a 5 or even 4 star hotel, maybe not evern a 3. But if you are interested in clean, inexpensive, and near everything you want to see, then this is a great place. They even have a big pot of coffee near the office in the mornings. No elevator, little English, they asked for cash/pesos. But was only 450 pesos ($35 US) for a single and 625 ($49 US) for a double. There is a great rooftop area with terrific views, table and chairs and lounge chairs. We had our breakfast here several mornings. By the office there is internet. Room are really unique, but they were clean. One note, it was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. It was a mattress on top of a concrete platform bed. One night I could hear music and some people came in late and made some noise. Ear plugs are recommended. A very short walk gets you to the main plaza where all the restaurants/bars/shops and vendors are located. There is a gazebo in the middle and one afternoon we heard some great Mexican music and watched couples dance. On the same street and about one block toward the plaza is the infamous El Incendio Cantina, with urinal beside the bar. But actually a safe and friendly place. Beside this hotel is a little hole in the wall restaurant that actually had the best Margaritas I had in Mexico.…
We arrived in Guanajuato with no idea where to stay and lucked on this gem...for only $450 pesos/night ($35 US/night). A lovely little old lady runs this small, bright hotel. There is free parking just to the right, past the little plaza (the owner will give you a pass to comp the cost). Our room was spacious and clean, with a big, firm bed. Apart from the slightly chaotic water spray, we had absolutely no problems there and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect--right in centro and within walking distance of everything. We would absolutely stay there again!
This small hotel is clean and convenient just a few blocks from the city centre. I stayed in a ground floor room with two double beds. Charmingly furnished. Inexpensive. Somewhat in need of repair. The bathroom was adequate but hot water was a long time coming. Situated on the main floor, I found my night's sleep disrupted by city noises - the towns people and visitors are up quite late. I also could hear everything from the office right next door. Nevertheless, for a single night's sleep, it was just fine - for about $35 per night. Check out the roof top of this hotel. It looks down upon the city and affords a great view. There are tables and chairs so you can relax there in the evening in its cool, secluded shelter.
