Better than a hotel, our American host put us at ease in Mexico's second largest city. The home is clean, comfortable, and is close to many restaurants within walking distance. You're in a neighborhood, with a pretty little park nearby and a main street two blocks away. Cabs are easy to find and prices are reasonable - Jim was a...

Dickinson guest house has a very good location for excursions in Guadalajara. It's located near restaurants, taxis, supermarkets and small parks. It's in a very nice neighborhood with very little noise on the street compared to downtown. I rented one bedroom and another room as an office and that worked out very well for me. I had good quality WiFi...

Thanks for the kind review. I trust at least your bed was comfortable. I am sorry you did not care for your bedspread. It was quilted in Sweden!

As a solo traveller, I found the Dickinson Guest House to be an enjoyable respite from the impersonal 'hotel' atmosphere. This guest house has a marvellous master bedroom that has an extended balcony facing south, one gets a full sunny view of the neighbourhood without having to leave the house. I love the option of having my own bathroom area...

I traveled to Guadalajara for cosmetic surgery with Dr Lazaro - Cardenas and this was the perfect place to stay. The house was within easy walking distance to the clinic, grocery store, restaurants, parks and the bus to downtown. James was the perfect host; actually above and beyond expectations. He showed me where the clinic was located, checked on me...

My second stay at Dickinson House and first at the current location. It occurred unfortunately during the swine flu scare and so Guadalajara was quieter than I'd otherwise expect. Still no confirmed cases in Guadalajara or Jalisco state as of this writing, but a lot of caution and more than a bit of hysteria. I concur with what pretty much...

My second stay at Jim's guesthouse in Chapalita was a fun and relaxing visit. I brought 2 friends with me this time, and all had our private space, along with larger public visiting areas in his new location. It is much larger in size, inside and out, but at the same low inclusive price. Jim is the same gracious host...

I had heard about this place from colleagues who have stayed here. I looked it up on google and found it to be close to the area of town that I would like to be in. I found James, the owner waiting for me when my taxi drove up. From getting into the taxi to arriving took about 20 minutes...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Dickinson Guest House , within walking distance to the Guadalajara Expo Center is a cost effective hotel-alternative to the many new luxury hotels that abound in this well maintained area of the city. We are available as a whole house rental, which is popular for those coming from the North during the winter months-or we rent rooms out to corporate or business travelers that need to be close to the Exposition center and this business hub of the city. This large home in the Chapalita neighborhood of the city is well know by locals. It is not to be confused with Lake Chapala, another destination of about an hours' drive away. We also have a shortcut to the very enjoyable towns of Tlaquepaque and Tonala, home of many artisan shops that are just beyond the historical district, a short ride away. Our business services for the traveler that needs fast internet service will be surprised to experience speeds that are actually superior to even the finest hotels in this pricey area of Guadalajara. The fully equipped kitchen will be a place for those who enjoy cooking for a group or for themselves. It is also has plenty of storage space for beverages and snack foods for those who prefer eating out at the many great restaurants that surround us. Come and feel the difference of the personal touches and amenities offered, while enjoying your privacy that is very much part of your wanting a private home. There are several spaces in this large property to enjoy with your friends or colleagues while still enjoying your private bedroom. Now that the business meetings and conventions are closeby, this home has become a popular alternative for 6-8 single guests or 4-5 couples on a stop-over visit to other Western cities in Mexico. If you are travelling as a group, why pay the high prices of separate hotel rooms when you can have a private room in a house and still be with colleagues or family? If you are looking for a week-end in the city-coming from Puerto Vallarta, bring some friends and take advantage of all the space to enjoy while at home! An excellent choice to stay in Mexico's 2nd city, for 10 years now-and counting! ... more   less
