I stayed at Quinta Camelinas last July with my husband's family, who are from Morelia. We were able to rent the entire inn. The rooms are clean and have rustic Mexican furnishings, talavera, etc. The inn is run by a husband and wife. (The wife's sister and niece also helped out with breakfast). The swimming pool is very small by comparison, but it felt great after being at the beach all day. The poverty that you see all over Mexico is literally just across the street from this beautiful home, which for some may be disturbing. Having said that.....the breakfast was PHENOMENAL. The service was well above average and they were eager to please. The sun was hot on the patio while eating breakfast, but I see that they have now added a decorative wood shade/canopy. Rene and Gabriela really made us all feel at home and welcome. We would definitely return, especially now that they have the 2nd apartment available (my husband has a large family).

Hotel Quinta Camelinas is a charming, small, family run hotel just 5 minutes from La Madera beach and ten minutes to La Ropa. It is spotlessly clean, the walls have lovely Mexican colours and it is well maintained. It is located in a residential area which gives it even more character. Natascha, owner, is so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return.

This is an unusual review in that I didn't stay at the property -- but felt compelled to post anyway because of the exceptional hospitality and consideration I was shown by Natascha Raess, the proprietor, when I had to cancel. Six nights in Zihua was supposed to be part of a much longer trip around Mexico -- I was very excited to have found Quinta Camelinas for the Zihua part; Natascha was wonderful to deal with and the price was right. But then unfortunately I had to scrap the entire trip because of some personal matters. Of the four other lodgings I had to cancel (on Isla Holbox and elsewhere), not one would consider refunding my deposit even if they managed to re-rent my room. Only Natascha at Quinta Camelinas said she would. And then she actually kept to her word, and did -- when she could have easily done otherwise. This kind of integrity is rare in any kind of dealing in our world -- and I wanted to commend her publicly for it. I will be sure to stay here when I manage to make it out to Zihua, after all.

We spent 7 nights at Quinta Camelinas. It was the low season meaning that we were alone in the hotel. But it didn't bother us: it was like having our own villa for only 42 dollars per night. A bargain! We had the small room which is already of a decent size. The swimming pool and long chairs were appreciated, especially when temperatures were so high. You can use the well equipped kitchen to cook or to make your breakfast. You can borrow a beach umbrella, beach mats and book - that was useful as we went to the beach every day. La Madera is only 4 minutes away. You can easily go to beautiful La Ropa by mini bus (only few pesos - very frequent service) or you can walk there (around 20 minutes). The hotel is not far either from the centre (10 minute walk). Very quite place but yet close to everything. Clean too. There are very handy convenient stores around. I would definitely go back there: convenient, nice and good value for money.

This is a small budget friendly bed and breadfast in the Playa Madera area of Zihatanejo. We found the location to be very convenient, a five minute walk from the beach and Calle Adelita. There certainly are some sketchy houses in this area (never saw the cockfights another reviewer mention), but think that is consistent with most of downtown and the Madera area. I would recommend staying in Ixtapa or La Ropa if you are looking for something more "Americanized."
We stayed in the Junior Suite for $65/night. The room was definately basic, but clean and provided everything we were looking for. We were allowed to use the shared kitchen, which we found very helpful.
The owner (Deborah) was helpful in restaurant suggestions and providing directions. When I wasn't feeling well, she offered to share some of her food and medications to get me back on my feet. The pool was wells kept and nice to cool off in on a hot day.
Downfalls: - little storage space if you have lots of luggage - beds are the hard, typical Mexican bed (probably consistent with what you will find in this area) - there were some loud guests staying in the hotel and made it very difficult to sleep - definately bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper

My husband, adult son and I stayed at Quinta Camelinas during the Christmas high season, for a week. We originally booked the Master's Suite but the owner wished to have that room and we were upgraded (for the same price) to the upstairs Penthouse. As you can imagine, it was extremely nice to have all that space and it made for a very gracious stay. Deborah, the owner, is friendly and tries to accomodate your needs. The casita is just a 5 minute walk from Playa Madera, a 15 minute walk over the hill to Playa La Ropa, a 8 minute walk into town, and a 2 minute walk from Calle Adelita, which is an up and coming restaurant corridor. I recommend browsing this area for great food and company (of course, central Zhiuatanejo has fabulous restaurants, too). Back to Quinta Camelinas--it's a pretty casita, with a lovely tiny cold pool (just perfect when you're hot and dusty). There's a sweet cat who wanders around (PigPen), two parakeets, and a few iquanas bask in the sun on a wall (but never bother you and run away). There is a communal kitchen for the regular rooms and maid service every other day. Because of our upgrade, our experiece was wonderful. The only drawback was that neighbors had band practice all night on electric guitars one evening and then pounding Mexican hip-hop/disco complete with DJ ruling the night on another. Deborah is working with them to stop practice at 8pm; so we just timed our dinners and evening walks around it. Aside from that, Quinta Camelinas is a nice respite from bustling, crowded Zihuatanejo.

hola. i am happy to report that the rock band is long gone....i think they are "practicing" at another members house. i do not anticipate them to return. i suspect other folks in the neighborhood did not appreciate the " music" as well.

I stayed at Quinta Camelinas in March in one of the Apartments (there are two apartment style rooms - with full kitchen, bath, shower, fridge, cable TV, etc) and 3 rooms downstairs. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised to see the room was even better than the pictures. Wonderfully decorated, with amazing tiles in the sink and shower. There was plenty of room, and it's a short walk to the beach, with a great Blues Club a few blocks away. The main area has a nice pool, and hosts a few resident Iquanas. The are carved wood poles are very cool.
The hosts, Deb and Alex were very friendly and helpful, making arrangements for me to go fishing. They live on site and were very fun. They were helpful in directing me to fun places, and general knowledge about Zihua.. When I go back, I think I will bring a group of friends, since it seems like the perfect place for a small group of, say, 6-10, to have a hotel to themselves! It was a good deal and very it was nice to be out of the main noise and hussle of the downtown area (yet it was only a few minutes away)...

This place was great! My husband and I stayed in Apartment #2 (I think) which was just above the Tonio's kitchen/hotel office. It was a great place. Adorable traditional Mexican decor, with a lots and lots of room. We had a comfy bed, a massive couch, full kitchen with everything we needed, a small balcony, and nice (good water pressure) shower. The air conditioning was great too (small window unit in the bedroom and large unit in the living/dining/kitchen area). This place was great. It's a micro hotel I guess you could say, with I believe 2 apartments, a penthouse, and 4 other rooms (I think). The complex shares the pool which was really a beautiful, serene setting. The property is located in an actual Mexican neighbourhood, none of this 'hotel central' like many places are. There is a small grocery/convenience store around the corner which, from what I can tell, carries basically everything you could need! It's a 5 minute walk to the closest beach (whoops, I've forgotten the name) and 10 minutes to La Ropa beach. Both were lovely. Downtown was a 10 minute walk as well. Loads and loads of restaurants right near by as well. Natascha, the owner, was excellent. She was very accommodating, and had lots of tips and tricks to experience the local aspects of Zihua. Walking is very easy, and recommended in this area. There was never a time we felt unsafe. This was a great place to stay and we would certainly stay here again on our next Zihua visit!

We rented the penthouse for a month over the holidays. This spot was everything we wanted and more: Walking distance to town & beach, pool, kitchen (we had a culinary queen with us), authentic decor, space to entertain or find a quiet spot to read, nestled in a cool little neighborhood with a corner market, restaurants (real deal) & lots of activity, all for a good value. Zihua is a magical place and our "home away from home" made it even more enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing you next year Natasha and Margarina!
