What a special place...we are getting ready to leave tomorrow and have already booked next year...right onMadera beach so you hear the surf continuously. There are sun decks galore to choose from and the pool is beautiful. We had breakfast included, which meant eating a very well prepared breakfast next to the ocean every morning...the service is great. For the late risers breakfast is served until 1130 so you aren’t rushing in the morning and then you can ease right into a late lunch. We found the location to be spot on...walked into town whenever we wanted along the path and occasionally took an inexpensive cab ride. We found great places to eat and several large banks to withdraw pesos. Las Ropas beach was an inexpensive cab ride away...attempted to walk but up the hills in heat was no fun...at least for us. We truly enjoyed Madera beach and preferred being able to walk into town. The room was large, well appointed and the shower had great water pressure...we had a jacuzzi on our deck which we just used as a private plunge pool during the day. They replenished water bottles daily and had filtered water stations located throughout the hotel. There are stairs to contend with...but I was expecting a true workout from previous reviews...they weren’t bad...but we have good knees... We felt the staff and other visitors were all respectful of the current COVID issues and personally I had no fears at all...masks were worn and you had no problem distancing. My concern is next year I’m going to be trying to figure out why I don’t have the pool to myself! The staff...wonderful, thoughtful and take pride in their work...from check in to check out it was a incredible experience...5 days of total relaxation...just go!

Nov/Dec 2020 was our 4th stay here at Aura del Mar, each time in a different suite, and we fall more in love than the time before. We love the location being on La Madera - easy walking to the beach, to El Centro and Calle Adelita. We also love having the option to order quality room service from Bistro del Mar. We adore the staff - everyone from the front desk/concierge to housekeeping to maintenance to pool/beach/restaurant servers. We love the authentic vibe, the lush garden grounds, the craftsmanship at every turn. We'll be back! Covid protocol: 😷 Yes, they were following strict protocol. Every employee masked at all times, 30% occupancy when we stayed, QR code menus, social distancing and hand sanitizer abound.

We had stayed at Hotel Irma on our previous trip and decided to try Aura Del Mar as it looked comparable in terms of price and amenities but slightly better. It was a lot better in every way. Perfect WiFi, perfect Air Conditioning, Rooms are bigger and better with a private deck. Beds felt new and the rooms were spotless. The hotel has so much staff you can't believe it. Extra housekeepers, maintenance, and security. Given the pandemic and the fact that they were less than a third full during our stay I expected their staffing would reflect it. But it looked they they were fully staffed for the Winter rush. Every one on the staff bent over backwards to help us. The rates were amazing for what we got. $70 a night. The hotels seems to have extra decks to view the ocean and of course the private room deck. The pool is clean and warm with a fun slide. Not allowed in America for at least 4 years. By the pool is another large deck with lounge chairs, ping pong and foosball table. Finally the Restaurant. Simply Amazing!!!! Lots of extra waiters at your beck and call. Prices were awesome. We were there a week and ate in the restaurant at least twice a day. Bistro Del Mar is the name. Literally the best all around restaurant ever. Right on the Sand. There is only one Negative. STEPS! If you cant handle steps this hotel isn't for you. There is no other option to getting from the lobby down to the rooms, pool and restaurant. If you like exercise then it's fun. I know I have gone on and on but the Hotel and Restaurant deserve it. Oh the beach. Water is warm and it's a public beach with lots of locals but all nice friendly, fun loving people from my perspective. Water is sandy because of the the shore break but seemed clean otherwise and I swam every day. La Ropa beach and Las Gatas are cleaner and clearer. Top Recommendation for the overall value and experience.

Room Tip: The higher up, the better the ocean view. Lower down is closer to the pool, restaurant and beach.

Our family of four visited Zihunatenejo and Aura Del Mar for the first time the week between Christmas a New Years. We stayed in the Noyoltzi Suite at the very top of the hotel. A spectacular view of the beach and water day and night. The suite had a huge, open air common space and then two large bedrooms with air conditioning and a smaller bedroom. Each bedroom had an en suite bathroom. It was super clean and a terrific place to hang out with a cocktail. The staff is excellent and always available for assistance. They made us all feel very welcome. In particular Hector, both Franciscos and Miguel. Carlos arranged for a snorkeling and fishing trip that were just wonderful. Better snorkeling than in Hawaii and a very successful fishing trip. The Bistro Del Mar was the place to be on New Years Eve. However, the service was always good as we had breakfast there every morning. A particular thank you to Fortunato, Juan Carlos and Claudeth at the restaurant. The steps did not bother us and frankly were less than we were expecting given the reviews. Having been to several ecolodges the stairs at Aura Del Mar were a piece of cake. Our only request would be that the refridgerator in the suite be replaced. It did not cool particularly well. The freezer did a better job than the fridge. Nice to have plenty of filtered water to drink in our suite. We liked our visit to Aura Del Mar so much that we booked in again.
