Just steps away from La Madera Beach which is the quietest and more laid back beach in Zihua! The property is well maintained and has everything you might need for an enjoyable stay! The manager, Carmen, is very accommodating — if you have an emergency, she’s there!!

I lived in Zihua for several years in the late 80s and this was my first time back for a stay of over a week. I was at Casa Azul's “Nido" for a month from Jan 8 until Feb 3, which was much too short of a time. Casa Azul is located above and across the street from Playa La Madera, which one can access by a few steps down the road, then a long (not steep) staircase down to the beach. The area is very safe, but somewhat noisy at night with all kinds of music going on. This isn’t a problem for me, but you might want to bring earplugs if you are bothered by noise. The unit is basically open air, but with a roof over the main area. The terrace has a table umbrella, but the rest is open to the sky. There is a comfortable double bed, a dresser, hammock, small hanging area for clothes, a large bookshelf, a safe. The bathroom is small but adequate, with plenty of hot water. There is an efficient kitchen with a fridge, 2-burner gas cooktop, toaster oven, coffeemaker, blender, utensils, dishes, glasses, pots and pans. A five gallon water bottle is included and replaced when needed. The maid comes twice a week and changes sheets and towels. The unit is very secure, having a locked main gate, another locked gate at the top of the stairs, and a lock on the apartment door. A man yelling "bolillos!" comes by every morning, and it's a trick to get through all the locks in time to get downstairs to catch him! We managed several times though. Carmen, the house manager, is a jewel to work with. She is very pleasant and helpful and her English is perfect. At night it is lovely: so many stars and the sound of the ocean waves is what it is all about. I had a fabulous time staying at Casa Azul and am hoping to return for a much longer stay in the future. Gracias por todos!

3 units in the building. We had the larger one for 3 people. Secured by 2 locked gates on an almost no traffic street. Fresh ocean breeze and listen to the waves. Beds were very comfortable, kitchenette fully supplied. Open patio to eat , or just relax in. Good location to downtown, convience store just a few yards away. On the road below were great little places to eat at, and the owners appreciated your business and you become good friends with them. Carmen, the manager met us for the keys. Alicia, the housekeeper is quite a character, and a pleasure to meet. The only problem was that we only booked it for 7 days, next year, to be much longer. My sister in law had her first trip to Zih with us, and fell in love with Casa Azul., as did Sue and I.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Azul from Dec 23-30, 2016. Our host David was easy to reach via email. He answered all of our questions prior to booking and provided further details once the reservation was confirmed. We rented the Upstairs apartment and were delighted with how charming, breezy, big and clean the place is. The rustic feel and local crafts bring a lot of warmth to the place and we were happy to return to Casa Azul after a long day of exploring the city. Location is ideal being close (walking distance) to local attractions. The Upstairs apartment was very functional and we benefited from the more-than-basic amenities available (microwave, hair dryer, drinking water dispenser, beach towels and safe). The property manager was easy to get in touch with allowing a stress-free check-in/out. We truly enjoyed spending our Christmas holiday in Zihuatanejo, simply a beautiful destination and an amazing cultural experience. We hope to come back to the area one day and we would not hesitate to return to Casa Azul. Thank you David, Francisco and Caroline

Casa Azul, the blue house on Calle Eva Samano de Lopez Mateo above Playa Madera contains three separate apartments: Nido (the nest), Abajo (downstairs), and Arriba (upstairs). We have stayed in both the downstairs and the upstairs apartments and loved them both, though they are very different, the Arriba a magical two story space with a loft and a palapa roof. Abajo is cooler, more enclosed, and has two bedrooms. Both have small kitchens, baths, etc. Casa Azul is a great value, an exotic alternative to the typical condo, and ideal for travelers who want to enjoy pleasant walks to playa Madera or Central Zihuatenejo with its mercado, it's many shops, and it's plentiful restaurants.
