If you're looking to be enveloped in the warmth of genuine Mexican hospitality, this is the perfect place to stay. Nestled along the tranquil river, this hotel offers an experience unlike any other. From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by the friendly staff, whose smiles and kind words brighten every moment of your stay. The rooms are beautifully designed, with vibrant colors and artistic touches that reflect the local culture. The beds are incredibly comfortable, with high-quality linens that ensure a restful night's sleep.
The experience begins with a welcome drink by the pool, instantly easing you into relaxation mode. In the morning, enjoy a complimentary breakfast by the river—a serene way to start your day with a smile before embarking on new adventures or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings. What makes this place truly special is that it’s family-owned and operated, with a dedicated team that has been part of the hotel for years. Their commitment to supporting local businesses and families adds an authentic, community-centered touch to your stay.

Garlands del Rio is my husband and my favorite place to stay in Mexico; we stayed here right after our wedding and returned for a second trip a year later. The staff, particularly Martha, Christina & Jerry, are incredibly friendly and helpful, full of insider tips on the area. Their English is very good, there is no language barrier. We have always felt very welcome and at ease staying at Garlands. The boutique hotel is located next to a river that makes the setting a quiet oasis with relaxing piano music floating in from the restaurant across the river, while also being in the heart of the Romantic Zone. We have enjoyed our breakfasts along the river. Your reservation includes sweet bread, fresh fruit, yogurt + granola, freshly squeezed fruit juice and coffee/tea. My husband and I also enjoyed ordering from their menu including plates like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. Garlands has a unique honor system with their beverages + bar, which we used throughout our stay. They offer a good selection of sodas, water, beer, wine and liquor for very reasonable prices. They are also very helpful in providing other items such as beach towels and chairs. Staying here twice, we now have experienced two different rooms and loved both. Each room had a very comfortable bed, spacious bathrooms, with so many windows throughout the room and patios/porches. Garlands has WiFi available, which make using Uber very easy. Garlands is also located near the bus to the botanical gardens (a must see!). My husband and I plan to stay at Garlands del Rio every time we come back to Puerto Vallarta.

This was our first AIRBNB experience and WOW, it was beautiful. Everything from the checkin to checkout was absolutely fantastic! The room was very large, comfy beds, super clean bathroom, shower big enough for two and the view of the river was stunning.
The boutique hotel had a fully functional kitchen, with large table, a small quiet pool, with chair loungers, towels and a bar (not included). They also have a restaurant on site.
We spent our afternoon by the pool soaking up the sun, it was beautiful! There is a cute little bar with live shows, music and other entertainment for the evening.
A hidden gem in PV! Highly recommend!

I have stayed here so many times, and it's been a long time since I wrote my last review. A great welcome as always - I went through the standard COVID welcome which is shoe sanitizing bath, temperature check, hand sanitizer. While a first for me, it told me the property was taking sanitation very seriously.
My room was spotless as always and I truly appreciated how well the air conditioning kept my room cool, while being very quiet. Shower was great, bed comfortable, and I had a nice patio view of the river.
Breakfast both mornings was great, and it was nice to enjoy it by the river's edge. As always the staff was great - very helpful and always trying to refill my coffee! I look forward to returning over Labor Day weekend, and again between Christmas and New Years!

I wish I would be nicer about the place, the location is OK, walkable to everything you want to do, but at the same time it is a bit "sketchy" location.
The staff is OK, kind of nice, but kind of dismissive, they also leave in the afternoon and there is no one to run the hotel at night. Moreover, the pictures showed a pool, but they don't have it in the location, you must walk to their sister hotel about 5-7 min and do an insane up and down flight of stairs... not worth it!
The place itself is a bit run down, borderline flea-marketish decoration. The room was also OK, as I mentioned, kind of flea-market decor + old stained beat up stuff + some modern appliances + beat up balcony doors and let in all the mosquitoes in (remember you are next to the river), bed was super nice though!
Cleanness, so so... there were a lot of stains and dust and really didn't feel clean clean.
Breakfast, I am not sure! I paid for it, but they don't start serving it until after 9 am and by then I was mostly gone on tours, I asked the front desk person if we could get breakfast earlier and didn't happen.
Overall, I wouldn't stay there again, I guess you get for what you pay!

This was my first trip to this amazing hotel, and I am so glad I went. The staff, especially Daniel were so kind. Having breakfast in the street level daily was peaceful. I had the pancakes which were delicious, endless coffee and juice. I was upgraded to Duchess for a small fee (it was full when I stayed) and I’m glad I did. Kitschy furniture, strong AC, smart TV, and shower. Robes provided. Bedding is so comfortable that I slept 12 hours one day (I don’t particularly drink or party). The rooms are also spaced enough apart that you don’t run into anyone and they give you your own set of keys for gate, front door, back door and room. It was my 43rd bday there and the staff surprised me with a cake that I shared with them (I’ve stayed in 4 star hotels in the past and this never happened). Close to cheap taco stands, fine and mid dining, short 15-20 min walk to Boardwalk. Bodega next door. Very safe area.
Thank you so much for making my stay amazing.

The Garlands is a gem! When I first walked in, I was greeted by two staff. Despite paying what I considered to be very little for my room, they treated me like royalty. One made me a delicious margarita while the other checked me in, showed me around, allowed me to choose my room (!), and gave me some tips for the area. I chose the riverfront room because the private patio was too good to pass up. It stayed cool with the flowing river just outside and was such a beautiful sight to wake up to every morning. The ceilings are soaring and the antique door (from the 1800s!) brought me joy every time I entered/exited. I loved having breakfast on the patio every morning (in my super comfy waffle robe) and the run of the place at night. It felt like I was living in my own palace. If you are a light sleeper or not a morning person, I would recommend a different room. The river room is right next to the kitchen and patio, so you do hear people moving around in the mornings. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The only thing missing is a pool (you can use the one at the hotel down the street) and good wifi (missing at most any location in PV). I spoke to several locals who told me that Garlands was "old Vallarta" - something you are lucky to find sandwiched between this new high-rise monstrosities that destroy views and attempt to privatize beaches. Lastly, this hidden gem is in a PERFECT location. It's outside the center of Zona Romantica, so it stays nice and quiet, but it's just a short walk (10 mins) to most everything. Having the beautiful park next door to walk through during the day or at night was also an incredible bonus! I really can't say enough great things about this hotel and my experience here. The staff felt like family, the location and room were perfect, and I will absolutely return on my next trip!

We loved everything about GDR: the elegant charm of the property, vintage decor in the (spotless) room, breakfast under the shade by the River Cuale each morning, and especially the friendly helpfulness of Martha and Christina. We were no more than a 15-20 minute walk from just about everything we wanted to see in Puerto Vallarta, and the bus to the botanical gardens was just five minutes away. Garlands del Rio was an essential part of a delightful first-time visit to Puerto Vallarta.

As soon as I walked into this hotel, I felt a sense of home. It was beautiful and the staff made me feel very welcome. Our hotel was quiet and very private. I awoke to a beautiful view and breakfast on the river everyday. The rooms were always clean and tidy after leaving for the day. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta who likes friendly staff, clean and decorative rooms, privacy, and a hotel close to all of the fun beaches and jungles the city has to offer.

This boutique hotel not only exceeded my expectations, but I left feeling so overwhelmed with peace and tranquility and with lifetime of fun memories that I will forever cherish!
Upon entering this unique hotel, you are warmly greeted by their friendly staff. Due to Covid, I was highly anxious to travel anywhere but needed a getaway. What was even more delightful was that this hotel takes every precaution to make sure their guests feel safe and protected from Covid. My room was meticulously designed. Ornate and beautiful and VERY CLEAN! Masks were worn by all hotel staff and guests. Hand sanitizers, masks and wipes were also provided, which was appreciated.
Waking up to river views and the calming sounds of the streaming water and the smell of their rich, fresh coffee brewing made every morning magical and had me feeling invigorated to start my day!
My only regret is not staying here longer... I will definitely be back again! Thank you, Alex and thank you to your amazing staff for serving us and making us feel very comfortable during our stay! Cheers!
