Costa Sur Resort & Spa boasts a stunning location with breathtaking ocean views and a unique swimming lagoon, often mentioned by guests. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and vistas, a few guests have remarked on the need for updated decor and more consistent housekeeping. The value proposition of the hotel divides opinion, with some guests commending its affordability and others pointing out overpriced elements. The atmosphere is generally considered vibrant, thanks to live music and engaging activities, although maintenance could be improved. Service is highlighted as warm and attentive, despite occasional delays, and while the hotel is conveniently located near attractions, some guests feel the beach experience is hampered by high tides. Cleanliness across the resort receives accolades, but the pool area, in particular, could benefit from more care.

It’s the people of Costa Sur, from the day you arrive until the day you sadly have to leave that draw us back year after year. We are welcomed “home” every year by the staff, and it’s a delight to greet the familiar faces of so many who care for our needs and do their jobs so well. Osvaldo, Rafael, Gabriella, Renaldo, Juan, Moises, Jefte, Alejandro, Ernesto and Raul, you make us feel like family every time we come. The beach staff, security staff and front desk staff get our kudos as well every year. And of course there is the beauty of Banderas Bay welcoming me to a new day each morning, swimming in the bay along with fish of every color, picking up rocks and shells and watching the whales, rays and dolphins from the little beach or my private balcony. Eleventh visit this past January and looking forward to our twelfth!

Costa Sur Resort & Spa is a nice place to vacation. First, they are very serious about following all COVID guidelines. Before entering the hotel, they check your temperature. Every time you leave and return to the hotel, your temperature is retaken. All staff wear masks and gloves, and they also insists on the guests wearing masks except when dining and swimming. Dining tables are spaced apart to adhere with social distancing, and the staff is constantly cleaning everything. Hand sanitizer stations are everywhere.

The hotel is nicely decorated with wonderful views of the ocean. It is also closely located to a number of attractions. There are two swimming pools. The main one is very beautiful and there is a smaller one for adults only. The restaurants are open air as well as the bar. I found the food to be very good. The main restaurant’s seafood platter is excellent! The drinks are also amazing. The hotel does provide a “breakfast included” option. I typically look for hotels with a breakfast option because I prefer to try local cuisine outside of the hotel for lunch and/or dinner.

The rooms also include nice decor with a lovely large walk-in shower. Water pressure and temperature were excellent! The bed was very cozy and located near the balcony. It was so relaxing listening to the waves of the ocean while resting. The room also includes a kitchenette if you decide to cook. The main lobby includes a little convenience store/boutique. It pretty much has everything you need.

Taxis are available right outside of the hotel to take you to destinations in and around the city. Uber can also pick you up and drop you off right in front of the hotel.

The beach at the hotel is private; however, it is rocky. It does not have smooth sand. That didn’t deter some people. People still swam, sunbathed and snorkeled.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel to stay at for vacation, and the staff is very nice and helpful.

I just returned from a week at Costa Sur 2/22 - 3/3.2022. Location 5, Staff 5, Meals 5, rooms a solid 3 1/2. Time share trade for me 1 BR in the South Building. If you were looking from the ocean it is on the right. I had unit 817 (8th flr) not renovated but clean and acceptable. The renovated rooms are studios in the North building (on the left). The pools and outside dining areas are jointly accessible by elevator and stairs. My unit was cleaned everyday and the floors mopped I always came back to fresh towels, dishes done, and bed made. (Normally that isn't done by staff in a timeshare). I traveled by taxi for the convenience. Taxis are not expensive the most I paid was to the airport ($18.00 USD) very reasonable. The downtown (romantic zone) taxi averaged under $4.00USD. ! planned to use Uber but my app would not work and glad I did not. They are not any cheaper, sometimes more and the drivers are young, inexperienced. The taxi drivers have to take driving tests. All my drivers, were older gentlemen with families, I was told they make $ 7/day - tip your driver! There is plenty of hot water and pressure, just note the faucet handles are reversed, Hot is on the Right. I loved this location would rather be here than downtown, it's away from the bustle and you can enjoy beautiful Banderas Bay. I saw what was either whales or dolphins but all you see is their backs so not really a selling point, if you want to see them up close take a tour. I participated (voluntarily no one approached me) in the time share spiel for the freebies, not to buy since I'm already an owner in Palm Desert. My presenter Joel was very professional. His Boss was a sarcastic brut . For one hour of my time I got breakfast, a $100 meal credit, and discounted horseback riding tour (my choice tho there are others). I would absolutely return, Since I was traveling solo I could have stayed in a renovated studio. Their website has not been updated with photos of the renovated rooms, they have gray walls, new granite countertops and dark walnut cabinets - very nice. I have nothing negative to say, it is an older property but well kept and they are remodeling as they can, I did not see any construction during my stay.

We were there over a busy Christmas break time and New Years so other times of the year may be a bit more relaxed and quieter. The one thing I noted in previous reviews is how friendly the staff is which is very true, even hugs from some staff! Claudia who serve food and beverages all day at the pool deserves a particular mention, her English was very good so it was easy to talk and joke with her. The room size was very big, it included a fridge/freezer (bigger than a bar fridge), a couple of stove top burners, microwave, comfy bed which was not firm and all rooms are right above the ocean. The balcony is small though, not enough room for a chair or two. Now the parts that were not great, hot water did not exist, sometimes warm and other times just cold. A very big lack of lounge chairs around the pool some days and I made the mistake of asking security to move one from the “quiet” pool area. He said no, other people just did it themselves. So we sat at a table until about 2pm, when we could get to the beach once the tide receded enough. Great swimming area in the ocean there with the rock break wall providing protection. I would suggest to remove some tables from the outdoor eating area, add loungers there and have people eat under the covered outdoor eating area which had lots of empty tables. There is no separate adult pool, there is a “quiet” pool which is sometimes quiet (in the shade all the time), sometimes has kids in it and sometimes water volleyball. There is no enforcement of an adult only area so do not expect a “quiet” pool. The activities were good, although sometimes it would be nice to not have someone on the speaker every hour of every day. We only ate at the resort for daytime snacks which were good except one dinner. We decided to stay at the hotel one night for the “Surf and Turf” night which is every Monday. Funny thing is, even though the hotel knows it is Surf and Turf every Monday, they did not have any lobster at all. We were debating on whether to head to town instead then but took a chance and stayed anyhow for the prawns. My rib steak was ok, my partners T-bone not so much and prawns were good but that was the most expensive meal we had in Mexico by far and least enjoyable. Lots of other extras with the dinner like veggies, salad bar, potato and dessert but all was bland compared to some other meals we had outside the resort that were half the price or less. Pay the taxi, Uber or bus and go to town for a good dinner. We had a lot of noise in our hallways with families and kids on each end of our floor. This is a family resort, not a quiet adult relax place when we were there. We did not have any kids with us but we can be tolerable. In fact my partner quit the water volleyball game twice as adult men thought they could win by spiking a ball at the young kids. This is a hotel fun game, not a competition!! Overall not a bad place but would choose something different next time.

This is a good hotel near town 2 and 1/2 miles away . Not walkable , but bus stops every 10 mins. and is only 50 cents or so. Cab 5-6 bucks . Hotel rooms face ocean and can always hear the surf at night. A/C strong and cold . No bugs so can leave balcony (tiny) door open of desired. Small store in lobby with all essentials including booze at good prices . Good Dannon yogurt. Water in rooms drinkable and good, we did not need bottled water. Hot water warm but fine. Tried changing remotes 3 times but switching channels always a chore. We had the breakfast every morning incl. with the room but getting served was an epic chore EVERY morn. They were never ready at 8 am and never enough servers until 930 or 10. Seems to be a management problem because servers were always confused. Pool tiny and shallow, cannot swim laps. However the sheltered ocean in front of the hotel great, but NOT with incoming ride. Low slack tides ideal so good 8 hours a day ideal. Need googles and beach shoes if feet not tough but can tough it out with not much damage ! We found some good zone friendly dishes such as fajitas, shrimp cocktails, and good guacamole. Ate big meals in town. Happy hour 5 to 6 PM is fantastic. Double margarita knocked me down but I'm a lightweight. Staff was great and helpful esp. Claudia, 3 cheers to her ! Now, PV ? We've been going there since 1980. No more. Overbuilt , helter skelter, everyone has hand out for tips. Expensive , like Yukon gold rush. We will be looking for smaller places in Mexico Guess it had to happen !

We have vacationed there before & looking forward to going back next year. Their employees & the service they provide are what makes this resort a 5 star experience. The rooms are large & all of them have an ocean view(our sliding glass door to the balcony was open all night for the 3 weeks we were there). The amenities are adequate & the private beach provides the peace & quiet we prefer when on vacation. If you are looking for action, it's just a $5 US cab ride to downtown.

Their COVID precautions were also excellent. Our room's lock was sealed with a sticker saying that the room had been disinfected. Sanitizers were available everywhere and upon returning to the resort our temperature was taken & our hands sanitizers before we could enter.

Costa Sur has to be one of the best values in PVR and their employees service will make you want to go back.

First time in Mexico and at Costa sur. Costa Sur has a beautiful lagoon that creates a protected swimming area free from huge waves and sediment that makes it hard to aee when snorkeling. The lagoon is easily the biggest appeal at this hotel and is hard to find elsewhere. During snorkeling in the lagoon multiple different species of fish, turtle, baby manta ray, and crabs were seen.

Our room was on the 12th floor with a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains surrounding the hotel (no road noise up here as others have mentioned). Many whales and dolphins were seen from our room and manterays and various other sea animals could be seen here.

The service was good, and we always felt welcomed. Okimy from activities was great and ran a bunch of fun activities including bingo and Spanish lessons.

The hotel is only a short bus ride to the town (maybe a couple of minutes) and the bus stops for returning and going into town are right in front of the hotel (bus is 10 pesos per person). If you don't want to take the bus taxis are usually outfront and only cost under 150 pesos. If you do take the bus into town your looking for the mismaloya bus going north and you take it to the last stop. Turn left at the oxxo and walk all the way to the beach area (it's nice down there)

Bonus: check out pancho's tacos as it's easily the best tacos in town (hence the very long line all the time)

I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking to stay outside of the main city, for a less chaotic scene and some beautiful mountains and ocean scenery.

I can't begin to say enough good about Costa. The staff is the best, we found this place 3 years ago, and it is home away from home. We will NEVER stay any place else again. Juan the guard will greet and welcome you, Fernando the desk manager will graciously welcome you, Osvaldo, Eshwin, Rapheal, Ruth, Claudia, Raul, Ernesto, Armando, Gabriella, will spoil you at meals & the pool; they are simply the kindest, more attentive wait staff around. Jose, Jennifer, Jaydee, and Erick will keep you entertained throughout the day with activities and fun events (such as music trivia, horse racing, underwater competition, water aerobics, blackjack, bingo, left/right/center, etc) they make these events a joy to participate in if you choose to which you should! Alan will help you on the beach and with any water needs such as snorkeling, paddle boarding, etc. He is super nice, friendly and helpful.
This place is on the beach, ALL rooms are ocean view and the sound of the waves will put you to sleep each night. Our door to the veranda is never closed. Clean, comfortable, close to town, (we go in each night, only 4km) bus stop is directly in front, taxi and uber service available, has a convenience store in the lobby if you need/want anything, I could go on and on. Good food (we do the American breakfast each day) heated pool, great sun around the pool and on the beach. For the price and what you get this place is a dream come true. Highly recommend!!!

Costa Sur is a delightful, friendly and great priced resort just a few miles from the romantic zone. Staff is polite and helpful, rooms are large and comfortable, and the location of the private beach, right below your balcony , can't be beat. The waves put you to sleep at night. But if you prefer the nightlife of Old Puerto Vallarta, you are only a few miles away with buses costing 50 cents each way. Have stayed here many times and will continue to in the future.

We arrived in late January. To begin with, our body temperatures were monitored upon arrival, and every time we returned to the Hotel, regardless of the time of day. We were given masks and gloves, even if we already had them. The staff wore masks, all the time. Chairs and surfaces were wiped daily and more so in heavier traffic areas. Our room was completely sanitized and had a seal on the door when we entered our room upon arrival. The rest of our stay was wonderful. There were special day dinners with an outstanding menu. Sterilizing in the restaurant area was a must. We took the bus into Puerto Vallarta on a daily basis, and found the same stringent formalities everywhere we went. Needless to say the weather was great, whales were in abundance, and we enjoyed ourselves, mask and all, tremendously! Looking forward to next year already. Medical technicians came to the hotel before we left to do the required COVID testing. We spent six wonderful weeks here!!

Yes. It stops ;right across the street from the hotel in a protected area. Very easy and inexpensive to get to town and back. If you don't speak Spanish you need not worry about it because just about anyone will help you try to figure out what you need to know. They are extremely friendly in town as well as at the hotel.
