We had a wonderful ten-night stay at this lovely hotel. On the banks of the Rio Cuale, the Rivera del Rio is a funky, colorful, folk art-laden 19-room inn staffed by very pleasant personnel.
We stayed in the spacious, comfortable Carlotta suite: bedroom with a very comfortable king-size bed, kitchen, large living room and two bathrooms. The hotel’s second-floor dining room serves a solid breakfast—sliced fruit, orange juice and mains ranging from huevos rancheros and chilaquiles to pancakes and oatmeal. Bottomless cups of coffee are poured by the friendly staff who double as housekeepers. The seventh floor is home to a pool and bar with great views, and bartender Jesus who makes a "mean" margarita. I don’t know if Señor Rigo is officially the concierge, but he was on top of his game when it came to arranging for taxis and a rental car.
We really enjoyed the location, an easy stroll from the beating heart of Zona Romántica with its abundance of streetside 25-peso taco stands, bars and sit-down restaurants. Within a block or two were markets, farmacias, and a laundry that charged 20 pesos a kilo for same-day service.
This hotel is best for travelers looking for unique lodging. Tourists will find plenty of high-rise, sanitized hotels elsewhere in PV.

We stayed at the Mariposa room. It is roomy and nice for the price. The staff are friendly. Breakfasts are good. Location is good; walkable to many restaurants, attractions in romantic zone and Malecon. We will very likely to stay here again when we came back to Puerto Vallarta.

This is a unique property in a residential neighborhood of Zona Romantica that we found on a whim and booked 6 weeks out from our stay. If you are looking for an experience where you actually get to experience PV on foot, by meeting people, this is the place for you. The hotel itself is kitschy, with every room uniquely decorated (we're from California, and it reminds us of the Madonna Inn). It has 2 pools, with the rooftop pool being the most popular (it's the pool with the bar :) ). The location is directly next to Rio Cuale , and depending on what room you get (we were in Rasputin), you will have a great view of the river, life passing by and all of the interesting houses on the other side of the river. We were here for 6 nights/7 days, and met interesting folks at the pool every afternoon. The hotel is clean, well maintained and has an elevator. Our room was well appointed, with a comfortable bed, a safe and a large shower. Pretty much all of the Zona Romantica is within 15 mins or less from this hotel, with an infinite amount of great food, entertainment, the beach , etc. close by. Casa Kimberley, aka "Elizabeth Taylor's House" is about a 5 min walk. Be advised that it is in a residential neighborhood, with real people, dogs, motorcycles, etc. passing on the street below the hotel (which we prefer), so if you are looking for a quiet cloistered resort experience, probably looks somewhere else. The staff of this property are what really make it special though, EVERYONE is welcoming, genuine and warm, with (as many other reviewers have pointed out), special mention going to Grant and Jerry (and Elizabeth the cat!). The breakfast is also standout, and great value for the money, with local favorites and a vegan option, deliciously prepared. It is also worth mentioning that this hotel is genuinely LGBTQ+ friendly (but everyone is of course warmly welcomed). We are looking forward to our next stay. The Rivera del Rio is charming, beautiful, quiet and just an overall lovely place to stay. The staff, including Carolina, Max, Ivan and Rico are wonderful hosts. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning, served by the lovely staff (they work so hard they also clean the rooms after they finish serving breakfast). My only complaint is that the drink prices are more than we were expecting. We understand prices have increased all over the world, but they seemed artificially high...as much or more than the USA. Ivan was an excellent mixologist, however.

I highly recommend staying in this hotel. The service is fantastic - we worked with Max and Carolina to do our booking and they were so helpful. All the staff was professional and friendly. The hotel was clean and so charming. Every square inch of the hotel has been well taken care of. We stayed in the Alejandro Suite and it was perfect for our trip. This was a much better lodging situation for us than staying in a resort as this hotel is in a safe neighborhood surrounded by loads of great restaurants and its a walkable distance to shopping and the beach. We will happily come back and stay!

Our stay here was so incredibly perfect that I wouldn't even look at any other hotels if I was returning to Puerto Vallarta. We were only here one night but wished we could stay much longer. Max at the front desk upgraded us to a suite with a kitchen and a semi-private entrance for free, and the room was beyond my wildest dreams. It was so beautifully decorated, the bed was a delight, the tub in the bathroom was extremely cool, and there was a private terrace outside of the kitchen. It was also huge!
Max gave us an amazing tour of the hotel when we arrived, and every space in the hotel is so thoughtfully designed. There are multiple pools, including a rooftop one with remarkable views and a hot tub. The rooftop pool has a great bar with fantastic margaritas, and we got a free welcome drink. Breakfast was also included, and it was SO good with great coffee and huge portions - we shared the chilaquiles and the avocado toast and loved both.
The hotel's location is incredible. We loved the proximity to Isla Cuale, which was a beautiful place to walk with a colony of adorable cats, some souvenir shops, and delicious restaurants. Zona Romantica is full of amazing restaurants & bars, and we also enjoyed walking along the Malecon, particularly during the Day of the Dead festivities.
The hotel's cutest front desk employee is Elizabeth the cat, who was always a delightful presence, along with her other feline friends. We will absolutely stay at this hotel again if we come back, and I highly recommend that anyone going to Puerto Vallarta does too!

From the moment we checked In to our room we knew this place was something special. Our room, the Zelda, was so pretty with views overlooking the river from the balcony. Carolina, Grant and Jerry went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect! From restaurant recommendations to beach/bus suggestions and more, they were happy to answer any questions and fix any small problem quickly. The maid service and breakfast staff were super friendly and efficient. The breakfast itself was delicious. The rooftop pool had the best sunset views and was a great place to hang for a yummy cocktail and meet other guests.
We had a small issue with a taxi driver when leaving, he overcharged the quoted price. So we let Carolina know, just so that they were aware and it did not happen to someone else. She immediately contacted the company and the manager got us a refund, we were very grateful.
My husband and I were celebrating a special birthday for me and were so happy we found this hotel. Do yourself a favour and book it!! If we come back to Puerto Vallarta we will for sure book here again! A big thank you to all of the staff for your help.

When we first checked into the hotel we were really wowed by the decor and the style of the place unfortunately cracks soon started to show.
The pluses of this property are the property itself (though quite noisy due to construction work nearby), very quick and strong Wi-Fi and the friendliness of some staff.
Unfortunately the minuses far outweigh the positives,
We were shown to our room and other areas of the hotel but we were not informed that no one manned the desk in the evening, Wi-Fi password or that the front door was locked in the evening and that we had to use the side door. We were both concerned that there was no one manning the desk in the evening and just had WhatsApp no to contact. More alarming was the fact then when we came back to the room after a days sightseeing our door was open, not just unlocked but left ajar where we presume the maid had forgot to close-this is a major security risk and one we were very alarmed about. Obviously we alerted reception who advised that they would check with housekeeping to make sure the door was closed and locked.
To our dismay the same thing happened two days later when the door was once again left unlocked and open. Understandably we were very upset that this happened again.
My partner asked to see the owner who came the next day. Later the next day my partner got a WhatsApp message from him showing the maid locking the door and us arriving to an opened door. There was no explanation other than he would get the lock changed which never materialised. Locked doors do not just open, ( reception made a joke that it was a ghost! ) we presume someone else entered the room and left it open but obviously the hotel would not admit to this or show cctv to this effect.
We really felt that the hotel did not take our security seriously and this was just brushed under the carpet with nothing else mentioned from the owner. One day no soap was left and the next no soap or shampoo. All very inconsistent.
There are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room and no sealed water supplied ( though there is an unsealed glass bottle of water that we didn’t drink ) It’s a real shame as the actual property is one of the nicest we have stayed in and we wanted to love it but is badly let down by the inconsistency of service and security issues.

Beautiful balcony overlooking the running river(cast iron table and chairs. Another pool on the 3rd floor. Smaller, but very lovely. Same area is a jacuzzi.

5 min walk restaurants , Bars , coffee shops , suspension bridge 8 min walk to famous taco stands 12 min walk to Malecon and beach

A little paradise in paradise! A home away from home! This gorgeous hotel hosted us for a second time with a group of 9 on a budget, and it was so perfect we had a hard time leaving because of the views, amenities, and staff.
The entire hotel is gorgeously crafted with hand painted features, spiral staircases, and unique elements that make every turn around the hotel and rooms interesting. We have stayed in the Green Room and Candalaria, and loved each one. The hotel is situated along the river in the old town district, close to delicious food trucks and restaurants, beautiful architecture, shopping, and fun bars. We love experiencing the culture of the city while relaxing, so Rivera del Rio Boutique Hotel is perfect for that. When the heat and humidity was high outside, the hotel’s two pools and air conditioned rooms offered respite with views and without feeling crowded. The breakfasts were also delicious, I’m glad we booked directly with the hotel so we could get them complimentary each morning.
The staff was especially amazing. Ulises was our bartender at the rooftop infinity pool and made incredible cocktails, recommendations for everything around Puerto Vallarta, and is truly a fun and interesting person to hangout with. Jerry and Grant at the front desk were great hosts, going out of their way to make our trip enjoyable. The breakfast staff and cleaning staff were also very nice, helping our trip stay relaxing and enjoyable.
We certainly will NEVER book anywhere else in Puerto Vallarta and we will be back! Our true home away from home!

Hi, There is some construction going on beside the property. The majority of the structure is finished (the noisy) part and the inside will soon be worked up. The construction hours are approximately 9 to 6 and half days on Saturdays. No construction on Sundays.
