Canto del Sol Puerto Vallarta garners praise for its beachfront location and wide array of amenities, including multiple pools and dining options. While the hotel's atmosphere is considered lively and inviting, with commendable live entertainment, guests suggest that room features and entertainment could use a refresh. The staff's attentive service frequently receives accolades, contributing positively to the resort's welcoming vibe.
However, concerns about value are noted, with some feeling the resort does not justify its cost, especially when factoring in extra charges. The resort's cleanliness stands out, even if the rooms themselves are sometimes viewed as needing an update.

Detailed Reviews
Just been thinking about the best way to review this place.... firstly I have stayed have stayed here before and i did find it was ok thus why i came back, but as of my stay now @ jan2020 booked with tui things have changed, when i booked it the hotel was 4 star but it has been regraded to 3* plus by tui, i believe but it is more of a 3 *. The rooms are clean and basic but very out dated, most uk people who booked with tui get the rooms facing the next hotel with a small balcony and no view really, there are rooms facing the pool side area but the hotel charge an extra $20 dollars a night to move to these rooms. The staff are very welcoming and cannot do enough for you, the service is excellent and very polite. The rooms are cleaned each day and your beds are made and fresh towels every day, there is no mini bar in your room.
The food in the buffet has been average plenty of choice and there is the the option of al-carte... we was given 7 token for the 2 weeks we where here, the options where mexican, surf & turf, Italian and Japanese.
The food is nice in these restaurants but nothing special just freshly cooked.
The hotel this year was really busy this year and there was more mexican locals than we was expecting.
The there is wi-fi here but is really poor for 2020, you can use it to browse facebook etc, but unable to watch any videos, tje signal just drops out, this does need updating.
The entertainment is really, really poor here, all shows are in Spanish or mexican we couldn't understand a word of it.
The hotel is located off the main road and at first it is quite daunting thinking we have we booked, but the the other side of the hotel is the beach front which was ideal. It is in a good location to get to the marina or the malacon(the main strip for night life) right in the middle of the two, it cost about 85 pesos (£3-£4) to each location or you can walk it.

Don’t believe the bad review’s. This hotel is spotlessly clean. The food is plentiful and as good as any all inclusive hotel I have stayed in, yes sometimes the buffet food could be hotter but in my experience any buffet food is the same . It’s very difficult to keep such a large amount of food hot and by they time you have chosen food then walked to your table it’s obviously not going to be scalding, The a la carte restraints are good and our favourite was the Italian. The pool areas a kept immaculate and there are three pools to choose from ,one is at the sister hotel and is quiet. The beach is quite small and depending on the tide can be stoney, but after speaking to other people most of the beaches in this part of Mexico are the same . The location is very good just a 25 minute walk to the Malecon or 80 peso’s in a taxi, the Marina is the other way and takes around 1hour to walk and is around 100 peso’s via taxi. Buses are plentiful at 10 peso’s each where ever you get on or off. Staff are very helpful and will get anything you want .
The holiday was brilliant and we saw so much Whale watching a fabulous Cirque du soleil Style show all via Vallarta Adventures who also deserve a mention for there exceptional organisation.

This is a great place for just about anyone, they take great care of you and the food is damn good! Everything is spotless, sanitized, beds are firm and comfy, air conditioning works great, water pressure in shower is not so great but no complaints there, just stay in a bit longer.
The staff work HARD so please tip them accordingly. Trust me, they earn what little they get!!!! Take time to get to know them, they're great people! Jorge by the pool (he rocks!), Miguel and Carlos in the buffet restaurant, Eduardo and Flor at the snack bar by the pool, Adrian, Karen and many others at the a la carte restaurants, they're all great servers, always smiling and will get you anything you need.
Recommendations: Surf and Turf a la carte is the best in our opinion. The steaks are unbelievable. Libra jewellery store up the street from the resort has some beautiful pieces. Ask for Omar or Nancy.
Tips: Grab your pool lounges early. Take showers at off times (late morning/after 6pm) for less temp jumps. No cotton t shirts are allowed in the pool and be mindful when you're drinking. The alcohol can hit you well after you realize, especially if you're in the sun!
Lastly, we highly recommend this place so come on down and enjoy yourself! (After all this virus stuff calms down of course!)
We recommend the Surf and Turf a la carte, the steaks are amazing.

Really disappointed in the quality of this hotel. The hotel room smelt of damp. We had 1 large bed & only 1 bedside cabinet despite bedside lights on both sides. No joy resolving, so for the duration I placed a chair by my bed, so I could place simple things such as a bottle of water within reach.
We were queuing in the hot sunshine at the restaurant on a regular basis. – they couldn’t cope with the volume.
Part of the hotel collapsed whilst we were there - if anyone had been underneath it, they would likely have been killed or seriously injured. Brick & sheets of glass were broken & fell down onto the ground. My partner is a builder, so I am not saying this lightly.
As we were at the beach each day (vaping/smoking area), we couldn’t avoid building work taking place on an apartment facing the sea. This involved constant drilling - there was no notification before booking that this was taking place. Had we known we could have chosen another location.
They advertise the beach as “caramel sands” – No! You need beach shoes to get in the sea, due to the pebbles & rocks outside the hotel. Over the course of our holiday, the quality of the beach deteriorated further and further. There was no effort to clean the beach of cigarette stubs / rubbish and the hotel need to educate locals as well as guests to look after the beach. However, you can’t argue that this is the same along the coast as other hotels looked after their beach.

Just returned from this hotel, really enjoyed out stay spotlessly clean in all areas, plenty of choice of food in buffet restaurants obviously some Mexican dishes but why not give it a try ?? Also ate in fish and steak and Italian restaurant which were both enjoyable and a change from buffet food.
No problem getting sun beds by pool always seemed to be beds available
We found all staff pleasant and very hard working.Rooms were a bit dated but comfortable enough and again spotlessly cleaned every day.
Local alcohol was acceptable but branded drinks available in lobby bar.
Really enjoyed the evening entertainment especially the Mexican fiesta night, so much time and effort moving tables and chairs etc to transform the the pool trerrece for evening entertainment was a fab night with mariachi band and dancers would defiantly return to this hotel !

Arrived Christmas Day for a2 week stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Check in was efficient and we were shown to our room, as other reviews suggest they are a little dated, but it was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel as a whole is fantastic. The staff are friendly. The staff in the lobby bar are efficient, good choice at breakfast. There are 4 a la carte restaurants you can use and the food and service are excellent. Francisco at the luxury pool is fantastic, he looks after everyone brilliantly always with a smile. The location of the hotel is great just a short taxi ride or around 20 minute stroll to downtown and the centre. Security at the beach and at the entrance is efficient. I would definitely recommend and return to this hotel. There is a bus
Stop at the front of the hotel and a bus can be caught to Sayulita for a reasonable price.

We stayed at the Canto Del Sol Plaza Vallarta for 10 days. This is a smaller, older hotel but very clean and is right along the ocean. The location worked for us as we could walk to the Malecon, 30 minute walk but we also took the local buses for 10 pesos a trip. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was varied and tasty, and there are two pool areas (one was for children and adults but quieter). There are activities for those who like to partake. We enjoyed our stay !

TUI 13 nights all inclusive £740 each !!!!
So was a bit apprehensive as to what it would be like. Went Rui Vallarta 2018.
Quick trip from airport but coming up to the entrance was having second thoughts.
Cobbled street just off the main road
But nice reception quick check in but didn’t unpack as there was a wasp nest on the balcony. Quick change of room to 298 I think. Facing hotel with part sea view.
Balcony very small ie balcony for 1.
Room dated needs modernising worn tiles shower curtain decor but everything worked and was clean. Also got an extra bed as there were 3 of us. No fridge though.
The hotel was spotless from toilet to pool with their staff doing a great job. 2 main bars 1 poolside and 1 inside. Plenty of sun loungers and waiters if you didn’t want to move.
Food. Several restaurants for evening all of which were fantastic plus the buffet restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Lunch also at pool restaurant and the cevicheria which overlooks the indoor tennis courts near the church. That food was stunning.
Location is beach front. Small beach pebbles in some locations and can be hard to get out of the sea due to a big step down caused by the swell. Water is nice and warm.
Walking to the malacon was about 30/40 mins but you can get taxi for about 80 peso.
You can also try public transport which is an adventure in its self.
Would I go back. Probably yes but there is loads more to explore.
My tip. Tip the waiters if you want looking after. They are not paid much but if they get bus fare home it’s a bonus

The food tastes really bad and they have little variety. The cleaning ladies want to do the cleaning by force, even if you don't want to. The beach is closed at 5:00 p.m. They do not allow you to consume drinks in the pools. The sand on the beach has a lot of rocks and you are in danger of injuring yourself.

Only gave 4 stars because at the end of the day it is not luxury 5 star.
Read some mixed reviews before going, puzzled why some people post overall negative comments.
Just returned from 2 weeks perfect holiday, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, its position and staff.
Check in was reasonably prompt, our full coach was all registered within about 15 minutes
The only negative we found, the rooms are dated, the furniture quite old, but the rooms and equipment are well maintained as is the rest of the hotel and kept scrupulously clean.
Why people get up at some ungodly hour to put their towels on the recliners I have no idea, that said there a profusion of recliners. The main pool has a swim up bar, but is noisy and has some activity every day. We preferred the smaller pool with children's pool near the Japanese and Italian Restaurants, much quieter, lots of recliners (nobody reserves these), infact we found few people knew it was even there.
Breakfast is served each day in both the Mexican Restaurant and the Buffet Restaurant. Both have a station offering fresh eggs, omelets, and tacos to order. Excellent choice of extras, beans and Mexican 'extras' etc.,
Snacks are served by the pool and include Lunches of many fresh made to order snacks. French Fries, chicken, fish and prawn dishes on Tacos plus burgers, hot dogs and freshly made Pizzas.
The Buffet restaurant also offers lunch, usually greater variety than the snack bar. Both Snack Bar and Buffet Restaurant continue providing food and drink throughout the Afternoon.
Evening Meals are served in the Buffet Restaurant or one of the four special restaurant (Mexican, Japanese, Italian, Surf and Turf).
Of the special restaurants we found the Mexican Food somewhat bland, do not expect a spicy chili!
The Surf and Turf is served on the terrace overlooking the Sea, a spectacular setting. Unfortunately all main courses are served cold, who likes a cold filet steak? Whether this is by design or by accident I don;t know. I suspect the former. I expect hot meals to be a problem in the Buffet Restaurant but not a Special Restaurant. I guess they plate up a large number of main courses in advance. The Management must correct this.
We found the Japanese and the Italian the best of the four, all main meals in these hot, freshly made and extremely tasty.
Relaxing by the pool, the staff regularly ask if you want a drink. All spirits are well known brands, for instance Gin, either Tanquerey, Bombay Saphire or Gordons.
One thing they don't provide...Ice Cream.
Walk to the Malecon in about 30 - 40 minutes, the same to Walmart near the cruise liner berths.
Excellent bus service to the Malecon, and the Marina in the opposite direction, every 3 or 4 minutes at a cost of 10 pesos .(40p)

They do have live shows in the evenings and we had great entertainment in the lounge.
