Property is nice and well maintained but they will try and scam you starting moments after you check in. It starts with an unwanted time share pitch at check in. They try and force you into handing over money to attend a sales lunch in. At the pool bar they will try and add drinks to your tab on top of the already ridiculous drink prices. But the worse thing will be at check out when they will accuse you of taking almost $200usd of items from the mini bar and demand payment. After 15min of arguing they will back off and you will leave wondering why you wanted to stay here in the first place. I hope to visit Puerto Vallarta again some day but I will definitely not be staying at Almar again.

The resort itself is pretty nice and well appointed. The pool areas are great to spend time at. There are issues though. When checking in, they asked if I wanted to have a card on file for incidental charges. They almost never allow you to charge anything to your room though at the onsite bars and restaurants. Also while checking in, they will surprise you with a time share pitch. At first, it was framed as a "we'll give you a review of the resort" which turned into put a deposit of $40USD to listen to this pitch and then you'll get the deposit back at the end. It also had to be in cash too. Service is slow everywhere despite there being tons on employees everywhere. This also causes issues if the order is wrong, trying to get your bill, etc. The thing that kind of pushed me over the edge was when checking out, they claimed that we used two face masks, a bottle of sparkling wine, a bottle of Grey Goose, and 1 Fiji water for what would have been over a $2000 MEX charge. We didn't even see masks in the room but it wouldn't have mattered since I brought in a 10 pack. We never touched the minibar since the prices were so high compared to what you could get from the convenience store done the street. None of those items were in the room when we checked in so that tells me that they aren't keeping track of what gets used and restock after previous guests or it was just a straight up scam.

Room Issue: I booked an ocean view junior suite for our stay. When we got to our room, they put us on the 6th floor and our view was of umbrellas, condos, and a large wall that had the Eden bar on the other side. I went to the front desk to ask why we were placed in a room with no view when I paid for an ocean view junior suite. The front desk person (Michelle) said that there were no more rooms available and that I would need to speak to the manager the following day. I asked her what room they had me booked for and why was my room not saved for me. She would not answer my question. When I pressed further, I found her response odd. She said that the rooms higher up were more expensive and that she did not have the authority to switch my room and that she would have to pay herself to move me higher up. Huh??? I went on line right then and verified they did have the same room category available and so what they were stating to me was not true. The next day I had to chase down the manager (who was supposed to call me but didn’t) and after some back and forth he said there was only one room available two floors up. I took the room as it did have a better view....but still not as advertised. Honestly, If it weren’t for other friends staying at this resort, I would have left and gone elsewhere. The front desk staff need to be able to handle problems as they arise. This hotel obviously does not care about its customers as evidenced in how they handled this. They still would not answer my question when I asked what room they had me down as booking. No one took any responsibility or acknowledged a mistake was made. They acted like I was the one with the problem. Food and Beverages: They have a very limited beer selection and be prepared to spend a lot more for food and drinks here than you would outside the resort. Cabanas: A $50.00 charge to use a cabana by the pool is absurd. They charge a daily resort fee. The cabanas should be complimentary to hotel guests. Most were empty. There were some positives that I have to mention about this "resort." The staff at the Eden pool and bar were excellent. They were professional, polite, and fun. The actual rooms are very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The grounds of the resort are well maintained and is very clean. The location is good and close to everything. I would have given this place 1 star if it weren't for these positives. I travel to Puerto Vallarta frequently and next time I will stay elsewhere due to the experience I had here. Why have room categories when they do not honor them when you check in? They charged me more for a room category that I did not get and I felt swindled. This place claims to be a luxury resort but doesn't even come close.

I’ve traveled all over the world, and the Almar Resort was one of the most fun, memorable trips I’ve ever taken! The facilities were immaculate, WIFI was fantastic, resort staff was great, food and drinks were reasonably priced, location was surreal with proximity by foot to beaches, nightclubs, and restaurants and I could go on and on. Rodolfo at the front desk was excellent, Irving at the Eden bar was a highlight of the trip and the massage by Chino and Isaac was unforgettable and completely relaxing. I HIGHLY recommend this place. The infinity pool and sunsets and view fireworks was also superb and its right on the beach!

just check in right now. I was here last august. I supposed to stay at Governors Suite at Marriott hotel coz I have titanium status but i choose to stay here thinking I’m getting the suite we stayed last august Instead I got a small suite. Is this the way they treat their loyal guest? I never stay here again. I even talk to the manager of front desk and it’s worthless. Customer Service and loyal guest don’t exist to this hotel. I paid for romantic suite but they give me a small suite. Hate the room! It’s not the the pic on the website!
