What can I say about this resort? We had a great time from start to finish. Our favorite place to eat is Himitsu - where Miguel and Alejandro made the experience memorable. My 13-year old and I had a great mother daughter trip- enjoying our swim out room. Go visit Norma on the beach for a great massage!!

My girlfriend and I spent a week in Puerto Vallarta at the Now Amber. We absolutely loved it and would definitely stay here again on future vacations. We didn't realize that Secrets and Now Amber are owned by the same company and co-located on the same property. Their lobbies connect to each other and we were told that as guests of the Now Amber that we could use any of the amenities at the Secrets hotel (their spa, pools, restaurants, etc.). The resort itself is beautiful. We stayed at the Preferred Club and had a beautiful, spacious room with a private hot tub on our balcony. I would recommend you stay at the Preferred Club as well. The Preferred Club guests stay in a separate hotel building, located very close to the pools. Because the Preferred Club has its own building and elevators we never had to wait on elevators to go up to our room. The main hotel area was a different story. There always a wait to use those elevators, as those elevators that take guests to their rooms are also used by anyone trying to go to the lobby or restaurant areas. The bar and bartenders at the Preferred Club are also amazing! Leonardo and Hector took good care of us at the Preferred Club bar and made some delicious, innovative cocktails that we didn't find anywhere else at the resort. Also, the Preferred Club bar was the only area we found good, top shelf liquor. I wasn't impressed by the liquor selection at other areas of the resort, so we frequently made stops at the Preferred Club, ordered top shelf cocktails, and took them with us to other parts of the resort such as the beach or pool. The food wasn't amazing but it definitely wasn't bad either. I'd give the food 4/5 stars, but our experience as a whole was so good that it definitely made up for it. There are 7 sit down restaurants, but most of those are only open for dinner. For breakfast and lunch there is a buffet and plenty of to-go food stands that serve burgers, pizza, quesadillas, etc. You can also get yoghurt, fruit, and pastries at one of the 2 coffeeshops in the resort. We didn't get around to trying all of the restaurants, but our favorite was definitely the French restaurant located on the Secrets side of the resort. If you buy a bottle of wine you can reserve a table in the cellar area of the restaurant and get a 6 course meal. This was some of the best food we had at the resort. There are plenty of activities at the resort, so I recommend reading the schedule in the morning to see what's going on. We didn't take advantage of these activities until later in our stay, but we had a ton of fun participating in them, such a bocce ball, water aerobics and sand volleyball. We especially liked Omar from the entertainment team! He was very entertaining and sociable and made all of the activities he led very fun. Some negative reviews mentioned pushy salespeople and long timeshare presentations. We were never approached by anyone at any point pushing a timeshare presentation or pushing any activities / excursions on us. The only time we were approached were by employees from the spa offering discounts if we bought spa bundles as a couple, which we happily agreed to (the spa was awesome!). Do be warned: you WILL be approached by several people at the airport pushing "free breakfasts", "free excursions", or "free trips". They will give you free tequila shots and margaritas and try to get you to sign up for their timeshare presentations. Thankfully no one at the hotel gave us this same type of pitch. Overall it was a great resort and I would highly recommend checking out Now Amber on your next trip to Puerto Vallarta! We had a lovely vacation and wished we had stayed longer.

This resort is stunning! You can not get better than the views from the lobby. I came here for a week with my husband and two kids, ages 6 and 8, and with my parents, to celebrate my father's 70th. When we arrived, we were told our rooms were in separate towers, although we both booked preferred. Upon further investigation, I suppose they were full so they upgraded my parents to a swim out suite in a regular tower and they would still get all the preferred amenities -- score!!! We both checked in using the preferred club, but we waited a while for our rooms to be ready, probably over 1.5 hrs. My parents' room was ready fist. They went and got settled in. Then, our room was ready in the preferred tower. Well, as we waited for the luggage to be delivered, we noticed the AC in the room was not working. OMG the was hell on earth! However, the resort promptly sent someone to fix it and when it couldn't be fixed, they upgraded US to a swim out suite right next to my parents! I'm not sure why I couldn't book an actual swim out suite since they were actually available! Well, we got settled in, changed to go swim in our swim out and no even 15 minutes after we get into the pool, my 6 year old steps in glass that was thrown into our pool from a beer bottle. The cut is so deep that we have to rush to the hospital and get stitches. It was a horrible first night needless to say. What I will say from all this is, guests came running in to help, complete strangers, and the doctor on site, as well as several others from the resort, came in to help and were very understanding. The resort took us to the hospital and picked us up, and they cleaned all the blood up and the entire room and made sure the pool was free of glass daily (although we didn't go back out to the swim out for the rest of our trip). Since my son no longer could use the pool, because he was stitched up and needed to stay away from water for 72 hours, the resort comped us a pool cabana for 3 days, and opened up the core zone privately to us, so he could play video games. It was kind of a bummer to pay all that money to watch my kids play video games, but they loved it and at least that was an option for them! Usually, the core zone is only for teenagers, and opens at 6pm, but the Entertainment Director, Jonathan Favila, allowed us to stay with him, and let us use it exclusively, prior to 6pm. It was really amazing and I'm so thankful to him. We also received a wheelchair for my son and everyone was extra kind to him, so it was really sweet. Diego, the front desk manager, gave my parents and husband and I, VIP access to the secrets, adults-only side, so we could use those facilities and restaurants if we wanted to (and we did, they were good)! A few quirks I noticed. There are only 4 a la carte restaurants on the now amber side (capers, himitsu, tamarindo and castaways). Of these, capers is adults only, which I found odd seeing as there is a whole resort next door that is adults only! I also found it odd that parents couldn't enter the kids zone or core zone to supervise their kids. They say it's for security reasons, but it's not something I've seen at other resorts. Final quirk, the kids are not allowed to sit at the hibachi table at the Asian restaurant if they are younger than 13. Again, I haven't encountered this at other restaurants. They did go over and beyond and each restaurant, to recognize my father for his birthday, it was really sweet and my father felt really special and really old!! Overall, this resort was great. The food was decent but I didn't overeat, so that's actually a blessing! Few standouts: Eggplant parm and lobster risotto at Capers, the fried rice at Himitsu, everything at Tamarindo, the burgers from Barefoot grille, the tuna fish sandwich from the preferred lounge, and the steak at Oceana. The buffet wasn't very desirable, and the service was slower than slow. Just seemed inefficient for a buffet but that's because of the current covid restrictions on the way they are serving the buffet. People to recognize: Besides Diego and Jonathan I've mentioned above, I'd like to shout out the following people: - Hugo: pool concierge, so friendly and gave us great service - Jamie: lobby bar tender, truth be told, I had a little crush on him! He made my drink(s) perfectly each time!! - Noeh: concierge. Noeh went to 5 different stores to find water proof bandages and water shoes for my son -- WHO EVEN DOES THAT? He texted me to get me a car back to the resort from the hospital and stayed in constant touch. He also had my son's favorite food waiting for him when he returned from the hospital. He was amazing and had such a sweet personality!! - Fernanda: part of the entertainment team. I don't even know where to begin with Fernanda. I think her only job was to open the core zone for me. Instead, she was my everything during this trip. She texted and returned my texts, multiple times a day, even when she wasn't working. She did things that weren't in her job description. I had mentioned I needed to weigh my bags for the airport, and poof, a scale magically appears in my room. I would text her about anything from, room service hasn't delivered yet, to, what is the dress code for this restaurant, to when is the cabana going to be ready, and she would get the answer and respond promptly, again, outside the scope of her job, and she was always so kind about it. She brought extra gauze bandages for my son. I had casually asked about something called Mexican coffee, and when I went to dinner that night at Tamarindo, she had the wait staff specially prefer it for me. I texted her if I didn't get my daily preferred amenities, or if I wanted to rent a boat, or make reservations on the pirate ship, just anything to get my son to have something to do and Fernanda Sanchez got it done every time. Everyone I mentioned was really good, but if Fernanda really saved our vacation and made it where I would really want to come back and have the full experience without my son's cut foot. Thank you, Now Amber and thank you to the amazing staff who work so hard :)

Beautiful property, lobby has amazing views , clean and well kept. They follow covid protocols well. The free covid test was very quick and easy. The first few days we stayed the hotel was fully booked and there wasn’t enough staff to service the buffet particularly during breakfast. You need to wait for them to give you your food and line gets pretty long. Go early to avoid the lines. Wait staff was great especially Antonio in the buffet area who took really good care of us and even gave us a nice going away cake which was very thoughtful. Pools were clean and well maintained. Restaurants for dinner was excellent, great food and service especially Capers and Himitsu. Lots of activities to keep you busy, paddle boards and kayaks are included in the all inclusive package which was a plus.
