Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Sunset Plaza Beach Resort is celebrated for its prime location near attractions and the oceanfront, though the beach is somewhat short. Guests appreciate the spacious, clean rooms with ocean views, but some have noted maintenance and mildew concerns. The atmosphere is generally found to be relaxing, despite occasional loud music. The hotel's cleanliness and grounds maintenance receive commendations, with a few housekeeping hiccups reported. Amenities are well-regarded, especially the dining options and the attentive staff, though there are some mentions of hot water and pool issues. While the construction noise is noted, it's not found to be overly intrusive. Service at the resort is consistently praised, with the staff's hospitality standing out. Opinions on the resort's value for money vary among guests.

The service at this hotel is atrocious. The air conditioning went out for the whole hotel and then was only restored for some rooms. Management tried to bluff their way through, waiting for complaints instead of proactively informing guests. The maintenance guy tried to shift the blame and actually reprimanded me. After a sweltering night I changed my flight home and left the next day. This is indicative of the basic attitude throughout— don’t address any issues until it becomes an issue. Even something as small as getting an extra blanket took four separate requests over three days at the start of my stay. Oh, and construction is going on (perhaps the cause of nthe outage?). There must be better options in Puerto Vallarta.

The worst experience I have ever had ever had in Puerto Vallarta....this place sucks. The manager Efrien is the worst. Do your self a favor and not book this hotel. The food is horrible and the customer service is even worse. Stay at Holiday Inn much better this this dump. You can't believe the service. They need to fire that guy, well they need all new management...they been building the add on for over 3 years because they not making money...BOYCOTT THEM!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Pelicanos Grand in May of 2023 and said yes to the Sunset Plaza (next door) timeshare pitch. Long story short, we bought the Plaza Vacations timeshare at Sunset Plaza for $14k and were guaranteed by Luis that there would “always be availability.” We have been to PVR three times since May of 2023 and not once has the Sunset had availability so we have stayed at the Pelicanos - definitely a less desirable property next door. While at the Pelicanos in Feb of 2024, I witnessed a couple who were staying at the Pelicanos get their wristbands snipped because they were being given a room at the Sunset because they had just bought a timeshare. But the Sunset Plaza Vacation Club apparently had no room for us, owners at the Club. I walked over to the Sunset to inquire about why they had no room for us but did have a room for these brand new owners. I was greeted with gaslighting and victim blaming because I didn’t “schedule a member update meeting.” Beware, these people are SUPER SHADY and want your money but will not make you a priority. Again, they have refused us a room three times out of three times in less than a year of buying a timeshare with them.

My arrival at the hotel was one disappointment after the other. I had made my reservation a couple of months in advance and at checkin I was told that my reservation was not paid and was asked to pay inorder to check in. I felt i was without any options so I paid in order to check in. After I managed to get checked in, i was taken to my room. What a disappointment! The room was in the 2nd floor and there was a dead cockroach just outside the door. I pointed the cockroach out to the “personal butler” and he said he would have the area sprayed and cleaned Then I stepped into the room to check it out. And once again; disappointment. Throon was not clean! I could feel sand on the floor, the glass on the doors leading to the balcony were smudged and dirty. Stepping out into the balcony, i saw q-tips and dental floss toss into the awning and it was all dirty and totally unacceptable. I informed thr “personal butler” that I did not want to stay in that room and he told me I would have to go to check in and adk to be given another room We went down and spoke with the same petson that had checked me in and after describing the tetrible condition of the room she told me I would have to speak with the mansger. I waited and after a while the manger showed up and i explained what i found and told him i needed a different room. This continued for quite some time and he finally told me that there were no other room svsilsbe and that i would have to come back tomorrow to see if they could find another room fir me I could not believe the very difficult time they were putting me through I basically felt that i had no options. I had arrived on my vacation from California with great expectations based ininformon from their website, paid a premium price for the “5 star resort” as it is described in the website and was totally disappointment and especially with the staff and managers total lack of courtesy and respect. I will NEVER return!

Love it- notes : when I was there in mid Jan, pool seating was plentiful but went back in late Jan and the towel game had begun. More umbrellas needed. Food is amazing for an all inclusive and No buffet makes the experience SO much nicer although my husband did get very sick for one day/night ( shrimp tacos for lunch) . They give you plenty of bottled water- the coffee shop with cookies salad fruit and pastries is such a PERK! This has been under construction for the past three years but it is not NEARLY as loud as it was two years ago. It is smaller than many all inclusives which makes for a more intimate experience. Hot tubs are only warm tubs, but nice.

Such a nice hotel. Service was good with tip, but tips are expected. The atmosphere was relaxed and the sound of the waves was soothing. Book all your excursions right from the hotel. It's super convenient. Would have been a 5 star if service went without tip expectations and we weren't left with empty glasses or sitting for the bill for so long.

The staff are very accommodating, especially the butlers, Epi and Mario in particular. They go out of their way to fulfill any request. Room service is prompt. I love the view from all rooms. The service at the pools is very good. Sunsets are spectacular.

This was probably our tenth visit and stay at Sunset Plaza. Needless to say, it is our home away from home. We are loyalty members and have been waiting for the expansion to be completed but it is slow progress. Maybe it will be completed this time next year (just maybe!) We have seen changes over the years and staff that have come and gone. One very noticeable absence was Marina who serves as the concierge. We were told that Marina was working next door at a sister hotel to Sunset Plaza. Marina's professionalism, personality and guest service is top notch and has never been compared to anyone else during our many stays at Sunset Plaza. Please bring Marina back. Guests deserve great service from Marina. We also want to recognize other outstanding staff. Reymundo, Mario and Laurenzo were our butlers. These men are the nicest people who go out of their way to make sure we have an excellent and enjoyable stay. Thank you guys! You are the best. In addition, we want to recognize Fernando and Armando in the dining and poolside area. The food may not be spectacular but their service is outstanding. We always want these guys to take care of us because they offer personal and incredible service. Thank you Fernando and Armando. We really appreciate you so much! We also want to recognize Carlos at the front desk. He works in the evening and we didn't have the opportunity to receive service from him but he is very nice and attentive and smiles. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Sunset Plaza and look forward to being there and seeing everyone again.

Our first trip back to this resort in 6 years, having stayed there twice before so gave it a try again. Previous reviews are correct in that it has not aged that well and needs updating . The new wing will be nice whenever it gets finished, and there will be another wing added in time. This is a time share place and those people of course get preference on the rooms and the pool area seating etc. We had a room on 3rd floor so while not a bad view, it doesn't get much sun because of the new wing. Noise wasn't really an issue from construction BUT the noisy people next to us had their tv so loud and made so much noise at night it was hard to get any sleep. Then they seemed to sleep late and put up do not disturb sign....not cool!! Taxi to Malecon is 100 pesos there and 150 to come back. The beach is nice and lots of people walking etc. There were young people and some with kids so reviews that state it is old folks home isn't quite true. If you are looking to party maybe try another resort to stay at. We will not be going back here, at least not for a few more years to see if it improves in the reviews. All in all we had read reviews before booking and decided to give it a try again but now wish we had went back to the Friendly. We did not get the relaxing quiet vibe we were looking for as in previous stays, so for the money we paid to stay we do not feel it was worth it.
