Unlike resorts on the Mayan where you might have to walk a long way to get to the ocean, Sunset Plaza has all it's amenities contained within a well laid out footprint. Pools, hot tubs (both adult and family) are in close proximity to the beach and the main restaurant. All rooms are ocean view. Staff members are incredibly friendly and will do anything to help. Of particular note, Joel, Mario, Armando, Arisai, Luis and Saul are the absolute best hotel staff I've ever experienced. Todos ustedes son increibles!

We asked for a room on a higher floor and got it. The elevators (2 beside each other) were fast. Each room has its own private balcony. The view is like out of a dream: Sail boats, paragliders, gorgeous sunsets (hence the resort name), and every night there were fireworks!!! Plus, you will drift to sleep to the sound of ocean waves. The whole resort was very COVID-conscious. There was a machine just inside the entrance that measured the temperature of your palm. All the staff wore masks and guests were asked to wear them in elevators and when walking around the place. The hotel is situated off the main road, and close to the ocean. The waves here are strong, so it is great that the pool is heated and that there is a view of the ocean from there. There is one main restaurant, all food a la carte, and they bring a huge menu in English or Spanish to order. There is no music/ partying around the pool. Good if you enjoy peace and quiet, and also more conducive to chatting with other guests and meeting people. The location of this resort is very handy to lots of great sites in Puerto Vallarta. It would be a long, hot walk but you can walk from here to the Walmart, and the Malecon. The taxi's and Ubers are not expensive. The staff seem very happy working here. Thanks especially to Mario & Ernesto. It will be great when all construction on the adjacent building is finished. Noise wasn't that bothersome, except for where the Yoga class was taking place. How to improve? Hammocks and new pillows. Otherwise, fue la perfección.

We stayed as part of a 6 person group November 28-December 5, 2021. We were in room 617. Overall I thought this resort was excellent. Most of the food was excellent, drinks were all delicious and strong, and best of all were the friendly, engaging, welcoming staff. Some tips: - there is no music. Not by the pool in the daytime, nighttime entertainment is a small musical act in the Mirador restaurant, and that's it. - I wish there were hammocks somewhere to take a siesta. - the resort provided beach chairs and umbrellas, but no loungers. Comparative to some places the beach is a bit narrow, and there are lots of pushy vendors. - the pools were nice and cool - there are Jacuzzis as well with gorgeous decks but it was mainly too hot outside to enjoy them. - You need your room key to access the elevator but it will only give access to your floor. We were placed several floors down from the rest of our party so that made it inconvenient to visit one another to borrow sunscreen or what have you. - we heard from a few people that you could visit the Las Palmas resort next door to participate in their entertainment, pool, etc, but this was never said "officially". The Las Palmas seemed to be where the action was. - a cab to the Malecon was about $100MXN, or there is a convenient bus stop near the hotel for $10MXN - To get to the adults only pool is a little awkward, feeling like you have to walk all around the resort or else cut through the restaurant. - the beach service and poolside servers were amazing. - the resort is quite small. You will run into the same people over and over again. This is nice with friends and annoying with annoying guests haha. Food Review: - the Luciano restaurant rotates through several different Italian/Mediterranean menus. One thing they neglected to tell us when ordering is that ALL THE WINE OFF OF THE WINE LIST IS AT AN EXTRA CHARGE. Since we were on the all-inclusive plan this was an unpleasant surprise at the end of the nice meal. We ate at Luciano twice, once was great the other time was awful. - Mirador has Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. All are good. Just be aware that since it is all a la carte it takes a while so dont go there when you are starving or in a rush. They were very accommodating to menu adjustments/ special requests. I wish we had been there for lunch more days because there was so much choice on that menu. - for lunch they also have the "Aqua Bar" poolside service menu; and they do a pop up station as well. One day was tacos Al Pastor, one day was Ceviche/Aguachile, and one day was hamburgers, of the ones I saw. - We ate at the pizza place "Piccolo Allegro" one time and it was delicious. It took about 10 mins only for food. - Al Fresko, 24 hr snack bar. They would make you things off menu if you ask nicely, like a late-night pizza. The desserts there were absolutely delicious. Overall I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone wanting a nice quiet relaxing stay.

My wife and I are pretty seasoned traveler's. We've stayed at over 50 different All-Inclusive Resorts, mostly in Mexico. When we find 1 we like we keep returning. Not sure we will here, but maybe. We have some mixed feelings about this resort. 1st off the Staff are All Awesome, which is what we look for because we like to make friends with them so our return visits are better. Check-in was a little odd and slow. They knew we were getting frustrated waiting to long with only 2 other couples ahead of us. Once through the process our Butler/Bellman, Alfredo showed us around then took us to our room. My wife upgraded us to a 1 Bedroom Suite as a surprise for our Anniversary and it was Awesome, and Huge. Basically double the size of other rooms. The balcony is Huge and Awesome! This resort doesn't get early morning sun with the new tower blocking it, which we were kind of worried about. You are able to start catching some rays about 11am in certain spots. With the limited seating it's hard to get a spot but most people seemed to want to be in the shade. Chairs were being "saved" starting about 6am, which we're use to because it's the same at most resorts. Food, Breakfast was always Great! Rolando, Ernesto, and Edgar took care of us every morning and were Great! Lunch was pretty good. Service was Great, Rolando, Edgar, and the rest of the staff Always took Great care of us! We ate at the grill one day for Taco's Al Pastor which were really Good! Other days I watched the cook grilling steaks and taking them off the grill when they were extremely rare. Another day we tried it again, I had a burger and my wife made a sandwich with just the veggie fixings and got extremely sick within an hour. Dinner is where this resort really Fails! We went to the Italian our 2nd night . Menu was strange so we just walked out before ordering. We had planned on eating out several nights anyhow with all the great place to go in PV. We did eat at Mirador 1 night and it just wasn't really good. Al Fresko which says it's open 24 hours but I didn't find that to be true. I went several mornings for coffee about 6am. Couldn't get any fancy coffee like you would want from a coffee shop. 2 days they didn't even have just plain coffee. Kind of a bummer! There was nothing to eat when I went there?? Mario "Marley" was exactly how you read about. He's a Great guy and always made a point to find us and chat for a while. We spent most of the day around the pool and Saul, and Gumercindo(sp), always took Great care of us. We like to drink a lot of Tequila on vacation and these guys made sure we always had some. The Bartenders took Great care of us as well. We start drinking pretty early and they were always ready for us. Adalberto, Oswaldo, Jose, and Crescencio were great and very friendly! All in all we had a Great time hanging around the pool and beach. I did go jet skiing a few days and it was Awesome. Went fishing 1 day. Beach was pretty nice! We went into town every day and it was only $5-$6 cab ride. We were able to get a little late check out. Our flight didn't leave until 5pm so we planned on hanging around the resort and having lunch and a few drinks after we checked out like we do at every other resort. We were completely shocked when we were told we'd have to pay if we want anything to eat or drink!!! Completely unheard of! This was just a bad way to end our stay. Our butler tried to get them to allow us drinks but it didn't happen and this is why I had to give it a low rating! After telling some of the waitstaff about this they couldn't believe it and said Management recently change and that they were sorry we weren't happy!

The service at this hotel was outstanding the staff works so hard to please you .The hotel and grounds are very clean and the rooms are a good size but the furniture is showing it's age. the food in the restaurants were very good with some misses. We enjoyed the grill the ribs steak and chicken were excellent .the bar drinks were very good. the beach had some fine sand but had a lot of rocky sections so water shoes would be an asset .If you like quiet this is the place for you no music no animation team no shows you can play bocce ping-pong and other games with super Mario but for the most part very quiet we were even told to turn off our radio even though we asked the other by the pool if it was ok, All in all a very good resort I would advise anyone needing a quiet vacation to recharge this is a good choice but for me I am looking for a little more activity and entertainment so it will be awhile before we come back
