Thank you for your thoughtful comments! You know, I think you're right about the American/Canadian guests... they see "Latino" and make assumptions... about language barriers. Not all of course and we should not generalize... but many don't seem friendly because they don't speak Spanish and there's more of a fear factor surrounding communication rather than any sort of racial issue. It helps to be fluent in both languages, of course. I try to be proactive and approach others if they seem reticent to speak to me... what's the worst that can happen? The can ignore or brush me off. If that happens I move on. Being forward is not comfortable at first... as a naturally reserved person, I had to learn the skill and just do it. So on your next visit... try it! I bet it will lead to an even better vacation experience. It's great to meet people from different places and learn new things from them! Glad you enjoyed the breakfast and the caring attention of our staff! We really look forward to seeing you again! And next visit, ask to meet me! I have never stayed at this hotel but I am here almost every afternoon. It's always a friendly crowd and they have a lovely pool. The bartender, Jorge, is the best. Margaritas and beer is always 2 for 1 from 3-5 every day.

Thank you for your review! In fact, our happy hour is from 3 to 8 every day, and all drinks with house liquors are 2 for 1. Beers are not 2 for 1, the promo of beer during happy hour is a bucket of 6 beers (corona and pacifico) for $100 pesos. Warm Regards!

Is there a reason why this hotel is requesting a passport number during booking on their website.
I stay at the Mercurio very often but had to check to remember this is on their reservation form. I can't read the mind of the management so they will have to give an official answer, but it piqued my curiosity so I looked online to see if this was normal. Other Mexican and European hotels often ask for your passport number at time of booking or when you arrive. You can see other posts on Trip Advisor and Rick Steve's Europe about this topic. I couldn't find any negative warnings or posts where someone was harmed by this. The Mercurio is a small hotel, and is not part of a big chain so may want to have a record of your ID when you give them your credit card to make the reservation. That said, Paul, the owner is very experienced in business and hotel management. The staff are very long term and make real friendships with guests. The safer the Mercurio keeps the hotel, its staff, and us guests, the better for all of us. Within reason I would extend a little trust here...and ask now or at the front desk when you stay there for their specific reasons. Have a great trip.

Are there any restrictions about non-guests going to guestrooms?
The Mercurio allows guests to have guests, but your guests need to show and leave their ID at the front desk if going to your room. This is strictest for after bar happy hours or when the bar isn't open, but even then the front desk may ask for ID so always make sure your guests and beach friends know this. The front desk is staffed 24 hours. They have posted about this on their website.

We do not have laundry facilities available for guest use. But we do your laundry FREE OF CHARGE, only asking that you tip the housekeeping staff member who does your laundry. We know of no other hotel anywhere that offers free laundry service. But that is part of our commitment to making your stay the very best it can be.

Is the water and the ice at the hotel purified?
I have not heard that this hotel pureifies their tap water further. I wash and brush my teeth with tap water, and have never had trouble with almost a dozen visits. The hotel provides bottled water in your room daily, plus every room has a fridge with a small freezer. Ice (hielo), along with drinks and snacks, is available very cheaply at every Oxxo, which is almost two per block. Plus there is an onsite bar, water and soda at the front desk, and food service onsite. you will be fine.
