Whoever checked me in was nice, but the experience just got worse from there. BTW I had to rewrite this review as my original was too ghastly even for tripadvisor. First problem- lack of security- anybody could just walk down from the common area into my dorm, as it had no door! Second problem, the so called lockers. Take a look at the picture and tell me if that's good enough for you. More problems... the ground floor dorm only had three walls! Just an opening onto a weed strewn vacant lot. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad. I'm not sure if I was actually in a dorm, or if they just threw some bunk beds into a half finished construction site with a bare concrete floor. It sure didn't look anything like the pictures. No washroom on my floor either. Gotta make your way across the gravel-crumbed floor, up the stairs, through the common area, and hope the ever-present lineup of unhappy guests won't have you waiting too long. A quick peek showed the upper floor dorms to be dank and crowded. Lots of noise too, between the partying and the traffic. Don't get me wrong- though I'm far from a reveler, I won't tell people not to party- especially in Puerto Vallarta :D On a serious note, though my experience here was absolutely horrid, I am aware that sometimes things can just go completely wrong, even for a hostel's management. Now if they were to tell me "Hey, sorry we messed up here. We didn't give you what you paid for." or if they offered me even a partial refund, I'm not saying I'd write a good review, but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe not write a review at all. But did I get an apology? No! What I got was torrents of hostility and verbal abuse from the staff! I couldn't believe it. Not only was this the most miserable hostel (of hundreds) that I had the misfortune to waste my holiday on- they had the gall to torment me with their grief as well!? I left as fast as I could. Even though this budget traveler paid in advance for more nights, I got the heck out of this miserable dump and didn't look back. I left half my belongings behind and I just don't care; that's how bad it was. I found a much nicer and friendlier place a few blocks away, and I'm glad I did. Now I must be fair- the location is good. So if you just want a place to get drunk and pass out, don't need an actual locker or washroom that often, maybe you'll like it here. I don't think I'm being too fussy when I say this hostel is substandard, subpar, inferior, and any other bad thing you can think of!…
The staff was very nice and helpful the location is walking distance from El Malecon Restaurants Bars ATMs Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe vendors and much more I'll stay again Alejandra Agus Donna Y la chica de las excuriones son las majors Gracias!!
I really really enjoyed the people who volunteer to keep the Hostel Vallarta alive and running. The regulars are fabulous people who are just super interested in every guest walking away with a tasteful understanding of what Mexico has to offer. I appreciated the variety of spaces for different community vibes throughout the hostel. While the rooms were not the most comfortable or well set up/accessible, I did find the bed comfortable, although the street is VERY noisy and the hostel is not exactly quiet. The facilities work, although the bathrooms need a little love and it was a bit hard to find my way around as the front desk doesn't necessarily give a thorough intake and tour of the space to new guests. Overall the value was here, the bathrooms could be cleaner, and the location was excellent, I only paid 12 dollars and I would stay again!…
My friend and I have been traveling around Mexico for 5 weeks and this is by far the best hostel we've been to. What makes this place so unique is the staff. They know how to make you confortable and it really feels like home. The place is clean, water and breakfast are free and there's a lot of activities organised by the staff such as hiking, sunset watching, BBQs, etc. It is a party hostel, but the dorms are placed to not be disturbed by the music which is perfect if you're looking for a more quiet place. Overall, LOVED the place
The area we stayed in in the hostel only had one toilet and shower for quite a few people. This meant very often I had to use the roof top toilet when someone else was having a shower or using the toilet. This was quite annoying particularly early in the morning. The bathrooms were quite unhygienic, I saw a bit of mould around and the toilets could have done with some extra cleaning. I would definitely were your flip flops into the shower. The room we stayed in had no air conditioning. I thought maybe that’s what we get for the price we paid. Looking at other hostels in the area and you can get cheaper private rooms that had air conditioning. While there was a fan it was still pretty uncomfortable on a hot summers night in Mexico. The hostel has a great location - close to everything. They also have a pretty cool roof top hang out area. Other than that I would find a cheaper, nicer hostel to stay in if I were to come back. …
