On our first day our service was just OK , On the second night for dinner we had the best experience with top of the line waiter . His name is NESTOR , super nice, informative, fast service. Big shoutout to Nestor,
I love El Cid and have been enjoying winters here for years! I wish the Castilla pool was heated! No one is ever in it, empty all day every day because it is so cold. What good is a pool you can't use? Also, everyone from Castilla goes over to the one heated pool at El Moro, making that pool too crowded. Please heat it! And by the way, the VIP adult pool is freezing cold too and everyone sitting around it is a senior citizen and older people like warm water. Also the banda bands on the beach are too loud, too many, and never let up from 2:00-8:00 every single day. Give me a break! 6 hours of deafening noise every day!!!! It really ruins our day. Everything else is super great.
This is our 3rd year in a row staying at El Cid Castilla, we just love it! Everything was a little bit different this year because of COVID, the swim up bar was not open (bummer) and the buffet lines you were served instead of helping yourself. The rooms were very clean along with the entire resort! We upgraded our room this year because my husband and I were doing a mini-moon and I am so very glad we did, it was awesome to have a king size bed and amazingly room and the view. We will definitely be upgrading again next year! The only suggestion that I have is, it would be really nice to have a mini fridge in the rooms. We had to go to the local store and buy a couple coolers and then have to refresh the ice everyday just to have some cold water and beverages in our room.
I had room 0301, pool view. It didn't get any direct sunshine, so a bit chilly in the room, otherwise it was good. Comfortable bed, modern shower, clean. Staff was excellent. Kudos to Cesar at breakfast, Laeticia at the lobby bar. Some of the food is saltier than I prefer, but mostly pretty good. The pork shank at the Mexican restaurant is excellent. The Japanese restaurant has better faster service than past years.
I have visited El Cid Castilla every January for the past 7 years. I've reviewed this resort in the past, but felt that I should post an update due to the impact of COVID on the travel situation in Mexico. Basically, I can state that traveling to Mazatlan is extremely safe. In fact, I believe that it is far safer than doing similar activities in my home state of Minnesota. The El Cid staff take safety precautions very seriously, yet it is not oppressive in any way. Mask wearing is expected when in any of the buildings (except when eating or drinking) and temperatures are taken when entering the resort and going into the restaurants. Hand sanitizer is plentiful and its use is expected. All staff maintain a professional distance and wear masks and/or face shields. Overall, I felt extremely safe when at the resort. In general, I also felt very safe when off the resort in Mazatlan. Citizens were very good about wearing masks, even when walking outside, and all store and restaurant workers were as well. Again, temperature checks and hand sanitizer is the norm. I was extremely comfortable wherever I went. El Cid Castilla is a great vacation destination. The pools are wonderful, the beach is great, and the rooms are very nice for a family, couple, or solo traveler. The number of restaurants open each night is down now due to COVID so your options are limited, but they are all good places to eat and have extremely courteous and helpful staff. The breakfast buffet is excellent (shout out to Cesar, our amazing waiter). The activities staff is great and will keep you busy and entertained all day if you choose to participate. I have found all staff to be friendly and want you to be happy. Juan Martinez, the outstanding pool concierge, has helped me out on a number of occasions. If you are concerned about the recent travel restrictions from the US, El Cid has you covered. They have made arrangements with local clinics to offer COVID testing so you will have your results in time for your return flight to the US. It's great that they take that worry off your plate. To summarize, El Cid Castilla is a great choice for a vacation, whether there is a pandemic going on or not. I will not hesitate to return soon.…
