My husband and I stayed 3 nights. The location was great for walking, catching a Palmonia for a tour, going to Mass at rhe Cathedral, and picking up amazing bakery at a place called Panama. The staff were friendly and hard working. Marco was a "stand out" at the pool bar. He was super friendly and remembered us the next day. He is going places! We ate at the Thai restaurant the first night which was very good. Italian, the 2nd night was average. We enjoyed the live piano and the singer/waiter. The sushi restaurant was excellent our 3rd night. We were on the all-inclusive plan. Breakfast at El Patio across the street pretty good. Take bridge to get there. The place is perfect for families with kids! The kids loved the pool area and cliff jumping. It was very noisy even in our room since we overlooked the pool. The pillow cases were too short for the pillows and the sheets too short for the mattress. Fortunately, the mattress was comfortable. Pro Tip: Pool at the El Cid Granada is quiet and peaceful if you need this. We moved to a more peaceful resort on the outskirts for the next 3 nights.

I only stayed (1) night, but from what I experienced, the atmosphere was great. You never have to leave the resort. Everything is there! The buffet was good, they have everything from pizza to seafood.

We had a wonderful time! Thank you for your hospitality. The only thing I would change; we would stay at an adults only resort. The service was great. Food should be available later in the evening. Adult pool should be kept open later than 9pm.

Myself and two others stayed at the El Cid Castilla Beach in early February. We bought an all-inclusive plan through Sunwing that offered the ability to use the facilities of the two connected sites (the El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel and the El Cid Granada Hotel) as well. All of us have been to resorts in Mexico before and have never seen such utter lack of standards. Let’s start with the food. At the outdoor lunch buffet and restaurants we saw birds walking on tables and chairs. Employees ignored them or just shooed them away, in the case of the bird who took a tortilla chip right from the bowl and flew off when an employee waved her hands at it, right in front of me. Many chairs had dried bird droppings on them and the food in the buffet was left uncovered in the sun. It was not uncommon to see one out of every handful of employees working the outdoor buffet without gloves while preparing food. In the outdoor and indoor buffets we saw employees using the same utensil for different foods without proper washing procedures. The sandwich presses in both buffets were so caked with debris that it was clear the appliances hadn’t been properly maintained or cleaned in many months if not years. Buffet food was carted from the breakfast buffet to the outdoor lunch buffet once breakfast finished, in full view of guests. On the hotel grounds and especially near the pools, bird droppings and other dirt was glaring. The walkways and decorative rock structures, the sun-blocking parasols above tables (both dining and otherwise), dining chairs, beach chairs etc.. all had fresh and dried bird droppings that had not been cleaned. We did not see any employees cleaning these items during our stay. The most cleaning we saw at the pool was one employee sweeping the walkway. One of our party watched a woman put a new diaper on her baby near the pool and leave the soiled diaper on a portable metal shelf intended for towels. Despite numerous employees being in the vicinity, no one made any moves to remove that waste and that is only one of the countless times we saw an employee ignore something that needed to be done. We spoke to some employees at the three intertwined El Cid properties who confirmed that the hotel management does not care about complaints and suggestions, even when they come from employees of various levels. Even the Sunwing representative on site told us that they’d passed on complaints, comments, and suggestions from customers in the past but that upper management and executives were always hard to get a hold of. The frontline staff were mostly polite and courteous, although we had numerous occasions over our week-long stay where staff were rude and dismissive to us. When you enter one of the restaurants they scan your bracelet in admittance. One of the days we went to the breakfast buffet, a man in our party was stopped (after having been scanned and granted access to the restaurant) for his sleeveless shirt. The manner in which they stopped him was embarrassing and they called the restaurant supervisor, the restaurant manager, and the head waiter to tell him he needed to change shirt or they’d give him a shirt to put over his sleeveless one. There IS a dress code for each restaurant posted on a sign outside the entrance, however we’d seen men in sandals be allowed to enter restaurants whose dress code prohibited sandals, and we’d seen women in mid-thigh shorts be allowed to enter places with “below the knee only” dress codes. We were told that the reason men weren’t allowed sleeveless shirts was to avoid armpit hairs from falling into the buffet food, and management really didn’t like when I pointed out the women whose shirts didn’t cover their backsides, women wearing mesh robes over their bikinis, the men with long hair and beards who had no restrictions against them. The supper buffet opens at 6pm and a show on an elevated stage begins at 7pm. Most resorts have entertainment shows of some sort but normally they’re in a separate location so that if you want to see the show you can, but people who don’t want to simply don’t go. The shows performed in the buffet were mainly dance routines and many of them had tasteless choreography for a dinnertime show at an all-ages location. On more than one night we saw guests reacting to the shows negatively, ranging from actively disgusted to mildly uncomfortable, as most of them featured dancers in very little clothing. In short: don’t go to the El Cid. They don’t care about their customers and they have no standards and no will to change that fact. If you still want to go there, I beg you to pay attention to what you’re eating and observe the conditions of the food. Use your best judgement. Save yourself the headache and the likely diarrhea and don’t stay at this supposedly four-star hotel.

We booked the all-inclusive package and when we checked in they gave us the wifi code, 2 devices per room. No charge! The resort is LOUD, large, and pool lounges are very difficult to find. It was so crowded. So many people. So many families. The pool was always filled with people. Zero chance of finding a place to sit on the beach. And the bands!! Whoa. It’s not just one band, it’s multiple bands, and they compete. Impossible to talk and hear the people at your table. Unfortunately, not relaxing at all. We had an incident with one of our towels going missing from our lounge chair. We spoke to the staff and was told they would check the camera and get back to us. They told us they saw a little boy get out of the pool and take our towel (totally innocent, no problem) but I was then given a long spiel about how it would cost me $40 to replace the towel, but they would “do me a favour” and replace the towel IF I wrote trip advisor review RIGHT THEN AND THERE. He watched over my shoulder as I wrote the review and then took a picture of it for “his manager!” Totally felt like coercion. Like why wouldn’t he just give us a new towel card? Or find the kid who mistakenly took the towel? They had a video and described the child to us. Did not sit well with us AT ALL. The positives are the staff. We have been to 20+ all-inclusive resorts and I’d have to say the attentiveness of the staff here is #1. Always so friendly and eager to please. The rooms are nice and spacious. Lots of buffet options. The evening entertainment is great and the activity team is fantastic (especially Perla, Alejandro, and Aaron!) In conclusion, resort is loud so don’t come here for a peaceful vacation. We joke that we need another vacation to recover from this one. LOL

The resort was good. Food and overall experience was also good. A lot of variety in Buffet and the Italian restaurant on site is excellent. But this place is busy and not for people who are looking for some peaceful time. Band on the beach played all day . But overall its a fun family spot.
