My family and I last came to Mayan Palace Mazatlán in 2001, and it was great to return this year. We had a mostly positive experience thanks to the people and factors listed below. (The only negative was the timeshare sales presentation, which is a total scam because they promised us a city tour and other things that we never got.) The staff in general were excellent. The Joy Squad (Walter, Rene, Jorge, Andrea, Pricilla) ran many entertaining activities at the pool, beach, and game room. Alberto, one of the beach waiters, was very friendly and gracious. Annabella was inarguably the best housekeeper we have ever had; she is kind and extremely skilled at towel origami (e.g., swans and sailboats)! The beach is fairly wide, but there are some rocks that make it a bit difficult to enter the water. The good thing is you can take a long walk in either direction and find that most areas are rock-free. According to the locals, the waves and currents are strong during the summer but much calmer during the winter and early spring. The lifeguard will let you swim in designated areas depending on the currents. The ocean is very warm, and there is a constant breeze that makes the heat more bearable. If you walk to the end of the beach on the right (where you can see a small mountain about 1.5 miles away), there is an amazing Sinaloan restaurant called Restaurante Mr. Lionso. It has the best Mexican dishes I have ever tasted, especially the seafood! The owner, Mr. Lionso, is very nice as well. I highly recommend going there if you visit Mazatlán!

Second year in a row for two weeks here in Mazatlan...The resort is just starting to undergo renovations and some new structures are going up. Should be done in another year. Added facilities and an upgrade to existing......As with our past visit the staff make the resort special. With Claudia again at arrival, she remembered us from the year before. The wait staff at the pool and in the restaurant, the bellmen are ALL exceptional and always willing to help, concierge is extremely helpful and the front desk staff are amazing. Anna was very helpful this visit. Only negative is the sales presentation. Went to get some issues cleared up regarding a purchase we had made last visit and still left feeling unsatisfied. Promised something we were never provided and then given a number of excuses. Said that agent was no longer employed there yet as a representative of the Mayan at the time it was his promises that secured our purchase? After a few attempts still not resolved so I guess too bad for us. In hindsight we would not buy again but would still visit. Will likely just continue to use Interval to swap our Mayan property for the next couple years. If we WERE to come back to a Mayan it will likely be Mazatlan or Acapulco. Easier to town then PVR or Cabo and still a bit quieter. See what the renovations bring..As long as they keep all the staff in the front of the house it will still be great. Only other thing is try the in house made Macaroons... Really good.. :)

This was our 2nd stay at Mayan Palace, our first being two years ago. We had a time-share at Pueblo Bonito-Mazatlan that expired and that resort is going through so many changes we are not compelled to return. We have been going to Mazatlan for 20+ years and have stayed at El Sid, Costa de Oro and Mayan Palace. El Sid was very, very crowded, Costa de Oro is not to our standards but we found Mayan Palace to be quite comfortable. The staff is the primary asset of this resort. All staff we came in contact with were warm, friendly and prepared to go out of their way to assist/serve. Concierge (Mario), Front desk (Fabian, and especially Anarely) Housekeepers (Vicki) restaurant staff (Armando, Juan Carlos), beach staff (Alberto), pool staff, and especially the doormen (Adolfo Rodriguez, Clemente, Herberto, Hector) . Not once have we come across anyone not willing to fully serve our needs or answer any questions. The room we had was a suite in the large tower across from the lobby. Spacious, clean, well appointed and comfortable. Our regular housekeeper Vicki kept the rooms spotless, well stocked and continual fun and artistic towel art. Restaurant was good for breakfast with either ala carte or buffet. Buffet leans towards more Mexican style breakfast but all is good. Wonderful fresh fruit in abundance. We did not find the dinner menu to be as good and opted to not eat in the hotel as a result. We tried two different nights of dining in the restaurant and found chicken to be dry and tasteless and hamburger to be unpleasant because of more filler than meat. The garlic sea bass however was excellent. Lunch many times was on the beach and the club sandwich is delicious. Drinks are generous and a bit expensive but this is a resort and you expect to pay more for the service. 15% tip is automatically added to the check and this is not always made clear, initially, and is not readily indicated on the check. If you wish to tip more, there is a line for additional tip. I feel this is a very fair way to treat the employees, whose primary income are the tips. This insures they are all tipped appropriately for their excellent service. The beach should take note that although extensive (you can walk/stroll a long ways, either direction), it is not conducive for swimming. The surf can be quite strong and there are rip tides to be concerned about. The beach directly in front of the Mayan Palace has lots of large rocks in the surf line making it very hard to even consider going into the water. However, if you are content with seeing a beautiful beach, the sound of a crashing surf, the smell of the sea and strolling along the beach as the waves surge up around your ankles, this is the perfect beach. Sunsets are also stunning as there is an uninhibited view. The grounds go beyond immaculate. They are manicured. And don't be alarmed to see an iguana or two (or three!) running around the pool area at times. They are not aggressive or dangerous and are part of the Mexican experience. And the pool is huge, well maintained and inviting. A perfect pool for kids and adults alike. Plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas around the pool and I've never seen them all full. We love Mexico. A family in Mazatlan has adopted us and this is our second home for a few weeks every year. Mayan Palace is a bit "out of the way" and not within walking distance of any shops or restaurants but a $80 peso Pulmonia ride will get you to the Gold Zone quickly and for about $4.50US. There is a convenience (7-11 type) store right outside the gate. Which reminds me: there is not a gift shop or any place inside where you can purchase anything you may need. This is the only drawback we have experienced.

Mazatlan is not as common vacation place to US. Most customers here are from Mexico. I bet there are no college "kids" here. Staff are very friendly. Taking down old buildings and putting in all new buildings. Existing buildings are getting old but very clean. When all finished, this will be a beautiful place. Mazatlan is more quite place. We took the bus to market to buy fresh fruit and seafood just like the locals. Restaurants around had good food with very reason price. Beautiful beach as well. Will go back there once they complete the construction. If you want a nice and relax place for vacation. This is a good choice.

I went to Mayan palace during spring break and it was fun! The service is amazing and the food is excellent. The people who work there are so nice. For example there's a girl who works there named Mar and she was so nice to me and my brother. She made us feel happy to be there. I would totally visit again.
