This BARCELÓ is on a gorgeous beach in Huatulco. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. The food is ok for a large resort like that. My husband is more fussy than me about that. It’s a great place for an easy, relaxing and fun vacation in a lovely resort.

I have never sat in so many gawd-awful uncomfortable chairs in one week. On the whole the resort did not meet my expectations. I was expecting two queen beds in my room, and I got two double beds. I was expecting three a la carte restaurants, but really, there were only two. One of the restaurants was a tiny sushi restaurant with only a few tables. After experiencing the "sushi" at the buffet one evening, we decided that we didn't want to try the sushi restaurant. I was expecting to find a table in the evenings where I could sit, have some drinks, and enjoy time with my family playing cards or chatting. There was no place to do that. The lobby bar had straight back heavy wood chairs (with a few couches) with very low tables. They were horribly uncomfortable. The lobby bar also usually had live music, which was very loud, so not easy to talk over. One evening we went to 'La Tortuga' but as it is a dinner buffet restaurant, it didn't have that 'let's have an evening drink and relax vibe.' Another evening we tried sitting at one of the tables near the pool, but these tables had a palm shade covering over the table and the support post was the size of a tree in the middle of the table, so it was challenging to play cards around a tree. Not to mention there was no drink service in this area. Early on we tried sitting on our balcony, but once I heard the air conditioning unit of the resort next door I couldn't un-hear it, so sitting on our balcony lost the appeal. The irony is that the most comfortable looking chairs and tables were in a small smoking section—not an appealing place to sit when you have kids. Back to the heavy wood chairs—they were in many of the restaurants and in the Dona Rosa buffet made a horrible noise when you slide them on the till floor. During our first meal, the fella next to me looked like I had scratched my fingers down a chalk board when I got up from the table and scraped my chair across the floor. As for the lounge chairs…. while the dinning chairs were too upright, the lounge chairs weren’t upright enough. While lounging by the pool, I usually had to use extra towels to be more upright to read my book comfortably. I know I’m sounding like goldilocks here, but I honestly couldn’t find a comfy chair the whole time. I have other complaints, but writing them out is just making me depressed that I spent so much money on a disappointing resort.

The staff was wonderful. It was our 3rd time at the resort and staff remembered us and greeted us as friends. The rooms could use some updates and the restaurants could use English menus. The Google translate option was not helpful in certain restaurants. Overall highly recommended. Very nice and friendly staff at the resort. Will definitely go back.

It has a terrible service in general, long waiting times in restaurants, front desk, the buffet in its two restaurants is repetitive we were 7 days and by the 4th we were already fed up. Its beach is very nice and its Italian and Mexican restaurant is very good, but the Japanese is quite bad, I stayed 7 nights and that only gives access to two dinners to a la carte restaurants that have a very limited space

We regret to read to had a bad experience, since the staff works really hard to make every stay unforgettable. Regarding the long waiting times, we would like you to know that we have two buffet restaurants that have long opening hours, breakfast from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, lunch and snacks from 12:00 pm to 6:30 pm, and dinner from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. which are available to all our guests so that they can choose the hours that are best for them, however, we are not exempt from the peak hours in which they decide to consume their food. Also, we are very sorry that you have had this perception of our gastronomy and that we could not meet your expectations, we work every day to be better. Please know that there is a sign in the restaurants indicating that if our guests have any special food requests, feel free to go with the waiter captain or any restaurant staff; they will be happy to accommodate with your needs. Older resort well kept but food needs improvement. The buffets were not very appetizing and not kept clean. We would typically order room service for breakfast or go to the premium lounge. For lunch we would go to the buffet. Occasionally they would have tacos El Pastor but that was the only thing worth mentioning, burgers were a safe bet. Dinner I would stick to the A la Carte the Mexican and Italian were good. Due to a shower and drain back up (common problem) in our room, Managers Erica Garcia and Carlos Lopez set up a nice lobster dinner as compensation for us. The staff are the shining stars of this resort from Victor in the Premium lounge to Carlos (from Montreal) on the animation team and many more, we never encountered a bad experience with any of them. Cabs are cheap, to go into Lacruisita 80 pesos or to go to LaEntrega beach great beach for snorkeling like 150 pesos $10 CAN. The cab drivers really appreciate a small tip of 20 or 50 pesos they were the most appreciative of tips I found, but you don't have to, we did. There are a couple restaurants right outside the resort (which is very safe) that have hockey games. There are only 3 TV stations in English MTV 80's, HBO, and CNN and they are fuzzy at times this needs improvement. Not like I cared at first we aren't really in our room but I was sick one day and couldn't leave the room. Stay away from anything green that isn't cooked. They should convert the Jorongo bar to a sports bar it is under utilized and would be a great addition. Anyway had a great time and even got to stay an extra day due to a flight cancellation. Unfortunately the front desk staff wanted me to check out at 1PM and bring my luggage to the lobby than check back in at 3PM. I told them this is unacceptable, I understand you may have to move me due to the loss of my Premium status but there are rooms available and clean by 1PM. I suggested a room preferably on the same floor than I could go down at 1PM pick up my new room keys and than go up move my luggage and return my old room keys, makes sense right NO. Ok than let me talk with Erica the Manager (I never did but she handled it) why I have to resort to this. Anyway after some back and forth surprise they gave me a room 5 doors down. She wanted me and my wife to come down together and hand over both our keys at the same time like some sort of prisoner exchange I said that's stupid no. I'm going to come down get the key I will go up and move our luggage into the new room than come down and give you the keys, but she still wanted the one key exchange which was fine why I don't know (it was her power move I guess). Why put up unnecessary obstacles and leave me with a bad taste in my mouth right when I'm about to leave. It's like they can't deviate and think for themselves but have to go by a playbook they need training. Pay the extra money and stay at Secrets or bring extra money to go eat in town. Adios amigos!

So many things are wrong with this hotel! It was our first time in Hualtuco and we were very impressed, very beautiful and will visit again, just in different hotel. Started at check in - they didn't have the room we reserved -when questioned they answered "I will speak with my manager" (that is the standard response for all issues)! Rooms are clean and descent. Food is horrible. The buffets are very very small and very little variety. We had the same breakfast and lunch all week as there was not much else to choose from. Big lineups to get a table, line ups to get the food. My son was sick for day and half, running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. The rest of us all had our turns with sore stomachs throughout the week. Not enough chairs by the pool or Beach so be warned, wake up really early to get a spot or you are out of luck for the day. There are only 3 restaurants. Definitely get the premium room as it allows you to reserve nightly for restaurants - can't imagine having to eat at the buffet for dinner! Restaurants were descent but nothing memorable. The check out policy is ridiculous. We were leaving the for airport at 3pm and they wanted to take our bracelets at 2pm which we would no longer be able to use the facilities! As guests of the hotel, we should be able to check out of room but remain guests until we leave for airport!!! If you are trying to decide where to stay in beautiful Hualtuco, I would suggest checking out another hotel.

Regarding the loungers, we apologize for the actions of other guests because although it is not allowed to reserve them, this regulation is skipped by many of our guests, however, our security staff is constantly touring the areas to reinforce these protocols and avoid the chairs to be reserved for more than 2 hours. Finally, we apologize if our check-out policies caused any difficulty. Our services end with breakfast, as a courtesy, we let you keep the bracelet until 2:00 pm, however, guests can still use the facilities for waiting for their flights. Where to even begin… we had so many issues from day 1 that it just set the tone for our entire trip. The drinks are watered down, food is gross, wine bottles are refilled from boxed wine. Don’t pay the premium upgrade for the room, there’s no difference. Highly recommend avoiding this place

Food is horrible at this resort considering the cost of this all inclusive. Breakfast was tolerable as was room service food. Lunch was the exact same every day and supper buffet was disgusting. Not enough loungers per the amount of people at this resort. People save loungers all day but never show up to use them. We expected more from this brand of resort. We wanted to switch resorts but were told we couldn’t. Pictures of the beach are very deceiving. So very steep and not usable for walking in an easy manner. Felt very disappointed.

Loved our time here. Clean grounds and very friendly staff. The beach was great. The evening shows were fantastic and very entertaining. Only negative would be the lack of loungers everyday due to every one saving them .very irritated when you go down to any empty pool and beach area with every lounger taken up by a towel.

We found this resort to be an excellent value for the cost. The close proximity to a large, quiet beach, the available events and activities, along with the ability to quietly rest in consistently sunny and warm weather was amazing. The staff was friendly, polite and most accommodating. The food in the specialty restaurants was amazing and the food in the bufffet restaurants was as we expected. We have little experience in all-inclusive resorts and found this to be an incredible debut. This resort is close to the downtown core and easily accessed with the very friendly taxi's. The weather was amazing and consistent at 32C during the day and a very pleasant 24C at night.
