The first 2 nights we did not have a nice view, we were facing the back of the hotel. We asked the management to change our room for a view of the pool, which they did for a little extra money. It was much nicer. There is a nice beach just across the street, but we stayed at the pool most of the time. Staff was friendly. The food is good at the hotel. Our last day we went to the restaurant where the cliff divers jump. Very nice restaurant. We made friends that were also from Ottawa, Canada. Along the main strip there is a lot of restaurants which are also good.

Staff is great, working on making things better. New beds & tvs this year. Always there to fix what needs to be fixed. Cant say enough about the staff and management. Most speak fluent english and will take the time to help you with your spanish. Makes you feel like family!!

Clean hotel but very run down. Very old, beat up furniture in rooms. Sheets fall off beds as soon as you lay down. Mattresses hard and pillows very small. The staff were very nice and most spoke some English. The wait staff at the Restaurant were all very good and professional We had a lot of trouble with air conditioning . We rented two rooms for our family of 6. In the first room we were given, the a/c did not work at all so we were moved to another room where the a/c did work. However, both rooms were like ice boxes. The temperature could only be controlled with a remote control and there was only one remote control for the entire hotel. So every night when we needed the rooms to be warmer, we had to call the front desk and ask them come and change the temperature. But they were unable to make it warm enough to be able to sleep without us wearing the winter pants and coats we arrived in from Canada. We ended up having to have the ac turned off and the staff brought us fans to use which were sufficient because it wasn't humid at night The food at the restaurant was very repetitive, especially at breakfast but there was more variety at dinner. Coffee was very good. This hotel receives a lot of Mexican guests

El Tropicano is a decent hotel. You have to remember where you are and at what cost. If you want a 5 star resort, then pay for it. This hotel meets your needs in every way at a cost that is respectable. Close to all amenities and enjoyed the Pizza Hut down the street :)

I can only say this: I stayed at the Tropicano with groups of students from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia/USA numbering from 12 - 21 students for many years, a total of 18 times starting in 1989 ; we ALWAYS found the facilities completely adequate, breakfast buffet good and ample, and the staff(beginning with Cesar Galindo in reservations to Ruben in security, as well as the cleaning staff) to be competent and friendly. The rates were definitely affordable, and my students didn't behave like "Ugly Americans" (=internationally ridiculed carricatures), but on the contrary, behaved in such a way that we were welcomed with open arms every time we returned...
