Spent my 26th birthday at Robert's and it was perfect. The recent renovations make this place perfect for a weekend surf trip. The board and wetsuit storage and shower were super convenient. The rooms are a terrific value, with rates being around $20/person/night. Robert and Russ are great hosts with some incredible stories of their adventures around the world. Had a wonderful time hanging out around the campfire, making new friends with fellow surfers, and enjoying the Mexico sunset. I plan on coming back very soon!

I loved Robert's K38 Surf Motel - it's in a perfect location literally 20 yards from the water, right on the surf breaks known as K38s & Teresa's. The owners Robert & Russ (father & son) are very welcoming and treat you like family from the first moment you walk in. They were very generous with advice on where to surf, which restaurants to try, how to get around, etc. The motel is very nice and they recently re-built the outdoor patios which are great for meeting all the other guests who come from all over the world to surf Baja. There are several different restaurants within a five-minute walk of Robert's, along with a surf shop and pharmacy. Everything you need is close by. It's easy to find the place, even if you come by bus as I did. If you drive down like most people, the motel has plenty of parking. The prices are great too. Highly recommended!

My wife and I drove through from valle de guadalupe to come and see you face to face. We asked Russel kindly if it was ok if we did not take up our booking as we were now in a bigger group that booked elsewhere.Russel very kindly said it was not a problem and told my wife and I that he would refund the full deposit in the next few days. If he had said he would not or would only refund 50% then we would have stayed 1 or 2 nights with them.We have read such great reviews on various websites of your hotel and were disappointed not to be staying with you.
Russel (Robert K38) is now refusing to honour their word and pay back the full deposit. They are now forcing a dispute with Paypal and telling us to read the fine print. This is really not cool! You taking your great reputation and now putting it through the mud! Good luck to you.

I just got back from a quick strike down to Baja to catch the large swell that wrecked the North Shore as it hit the west coast 2 days later. Since it was mid-week, all of northern Baja was pretty quiet - I stopped by Roberts and got a room. I wasn't expecting to surf the afternoon I arrived, but Teresas - which is directly in front of the hotel - was beginning to show.
There was only a handful of guys out, and I jumped on it after an OH set came through. Towards dusk, it began to get really big (2x OH), actually starting to close out 100+ yards way outside.
I woke up the next morning thinking I could possibly surf the Point - which is just 400 yards south of the hotel - but sets were breaking on the horizon and washing through the entire K38 area. I decided to head down to San Miguel, which was maybe the biggest I've seen in it in years.
So, I got in two great surf sessions which was afforded by having Robert's as a hub location right on the beach with great security. The place is set up for surfing/beach activities, with a large board storage area, power shower (for sand & wetsuits), washer/dryer & outdoor cooking area.
If you don't want to camp, or don't want/need to deal with 2-3 day luxury rentals, Roberts is optimized for getting in, getting wet & getting home with a minimum amount of hassle.

Hey.....if you are an animal...dont stay here. We want cool surfers who are chill....not a bunch of filthy pigs. Keep it real. Rocky breakz for only hard core beach bunnies sunning themselves. Best place EVER. NO KOOKS !

Hi Bob, Thanks for taking the time to write a review for us. Occasionally we do get a group of guys that think they are rockstars and leave a bit of a mess in the rooms. Thankfully they are few are far between and most of our guests are respectful of our property. Now that we are done with all of our remodeling projects the place looks amazing and we plan to keep it that way. Hope to see you again in the near future. All the Best, Russ Carmona

Friendly owners and a laid back vibe make this place a total score. If you are surfing - Remember to bring your booties! Walking out across the rocks is rough on the feet but the motel has booties for rent if you need them. We had a group of 5 in the upstairs for just a night. Having a kitchen made making drinks a breeze and there are some tacquerias within walking distance. The motel is clean but well-used so don't expect a red carpet. However, the friendly service makes this place high class in my book! There was also a couple of dogs that lived on site but they were super sweet and great with kids. An older lady dog liked sleeping in the sun near our room door and we joked that you couldn't go in the room without paying the "doggy tax" - a little belly scratch. Perfect accomodations for a quick Baja surf weekend.

Hi Kat, I want to personally thank you for taking the time to write us a review. Your review definitely hit some key notes, like how important it is to BRING BOOTIES to save your feet. I see it all the time, guys that are used to surfing beach breaks back home and don't "believe" in wearing booties until after their first session at Robert's Reef and they come in with bleeding feet. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we sincerely hope you will come down again in the near future. All the Best, Russ Carmona

I didn't expect much going to a Motel in Rosarito, but the rooms were clean and Robert and Russ were very accommodating. Great surf out front (although it was small when we were there), and there were many other surf spots nearby. There were only a few places to grab food nearby. We ended up driving for dinners.
The only problem was that it was extremely cold (43 degrees at night, and ti's usually never that cold here) and we didn't have heat in the rooms. We just piled on the blankets, but it was a bit chilly.
Great place to stay and I would definitely go back for a quick surf weekend.

This place is awesome. Reef out front, K38 point down the street. (Points and coves all around. duh.) Taco Surf, Fish Tacos, Calypso, k38 Surf Shop, etc. walking distance. Clean. Super affordable. Robert and Russ are the best hosts ever... right on the beach. (AND, your hosts know everyone and everything around... they got you covered. Period.)

Very easy drive if you are driving. Clean, comfortable and reasonable price. Loved how I could hear the ocean at night while in bed. It is located on the beach and few steps to one of the best surfing spots. We walked to taco stands, super market and had inexpensive awesome breakfast next door at Teresa's. the staff were very helpful and available. We girls really enjoyed ourselves. We definitely will go back soon.
