Our room was on the fourth floor giving us a view of the ocean, but the Worldmark units are furthest from ocean. Short walk to the beach over cobble stones. A lot of units on the property are privately owned, therefore there are a lot of 'rules' with $$ penalties. Only 1 elevator worked. The parking spaces are very narrow. The rooms have no safe and no air conditioning, even tho the boxes are on the wall. There are standup fans in closets. Short drive to the 'lobster' places and shopping in Puerto Nuevo and Ensenada. Also the trip to La Bufadora was worth it. May be crowded due to cruise ships. We went on a day with no cruise ship and a lot of the shops were closed.
We stayed 3 nights, renting from AirBNB. What we liked. Unit was one story close to tennis court, pool, hot tub, and a 10 minute walk to a fabulous italian restaurant, and top notch casual on site restaurant called Mama Mia. What we didn’t like. Definitely needs some sprucing up with maintenance issues. Wifi only works in the club house or restaurant, not in your unit. Probably will not return. We come to the area to see our local Tijuana dentist. If you do stay here, save some money and take a collectivo to central Tijuana. $1 vs $20 in uber.
A year ago I gave my review of La Paloma with WIVC one bedroom. This year we stay in a two bedroom on the second floor. The one bedroom on the ground from last year was five star. If I could give the two bedroom units a higher than 5 score I would. The master bedroom was huge. Plenty of room to move about with saying excuse me as you pass your bunk mate. The ceilings are much higher giving the feeling of even more space. Then you go out on the balcony....the view is amazing. All with a partial view of the Ocean but I’m not telling which one I had because it’s the best and I don’t want to have to fight over it. I feel like I’m betraying myself just writing the review. Killer view, I’ll post the panorama. The staff is the best. Gabriel up at the front desk is your assistant in anything you need. The cleaning team is friendly and are more than accommodating. The security are the best. I left the key in the door one night and the next morning at 9am I got a call that security had found it, locked the door and turned the key into the main gate. The Restaurant is more than excellent and the staff very friendly. Thumbs up to every single one. When we left we had to check out before the 9am opening due to Presidential harassment on closing the border and wanted to make sure we had enough time to catch the plane. Gabriel schedules a taxi for us the next morning at 8am and gave us the drivers card so we would get into the right taxi. Of course he showed up two minutes to 8am and we were at the pedestrian crossing at 8:30. There is a new facility for customs and it moved very smoothly although the walk is much further. Outside we tried to get Uber (price down was $38 from the airport but nothing was available in the area. We talked to one of the Mexican taxis on the US side and negotiated down from $65 to $50 to San Diego International. We could have done the Trolly and bus thing but this is one of the few instances where you can buy time. By 9:30am we were were checking our bags. Every thing else was much the same. Sea glass bonanza, walks on the fabulous roaring beach and the party beach down by the Rosarito Hotel. Down town was going full speed on the weekend and we felt as safe as ever. We did notice two hummers with mounted weapons and camouflages driving through town and on the highway in two weeks. Not seen before but nothing alarming. The towns people were as friendly as ever. I felt more safe walking around Rosarito Beach at night with my wife than walking from the comfort Inn at SeaTac to the Denny’s two blocks away. Saw lots more bad hombres there in a two block walk than the two weeks in Mexico. Good time as always. April in Rosarito not to cold, not to hot. Just right.…
I have visited La Paloma four times. The grounds are kept in excellent shape. I like that this is a gated community. It is a quiet, restful place; maybe not the best for young travelers. The pools and hat tubs are clean. The restaurant is a bit hit and miss. The guacamole and the tortilla soup are amazing. We were disappointed in the main courses. I would go back to the restaurant any time for the guacamole and the soup.
Quick quiet getaway. The property is located only about a 30 minute drive south of the San Ysidro border. Fantastic view the room itself has everything you would expect good size bedroom with a full kitchen and a living room and dining room to hang out in. The property was beautiful and fun to take walks on. Would definitely recommend!
