Over the years we have stayed at this old Spanish style Colonial hotel many times, as its conveniently located only 10 miles south of the U.S boarder for Weekend escapes. The car park security checks our car in and out, but unless we were going to Ensenada or to visit the wine country, we found it easier to walk around town. As the hotel is right in the heart of Rosarito, and within walking distance of most of the better bars and restaurants in town. We always pay the first night in advance over the internet from the USA, and the final bill upon leaving. The Hotel is old on the outside but the rooms are clean, there was bottles of complementary water, and we had a good view of the Ocean and Papa’s & Beer next door from our balcony.
Check out the wood-beamed lobby decorated with both tile and painted murals from the1920's depicting different scenes from Mexican culture. There is also an Olympic-size swimming pool, not heated in winter although the hot tub was. Both overlook the beach, which can also be seen while dinning on typical Mexican food in the Azteca restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was not as expected, I ordered something with beans and rice accompanied by a couple of very sad soggy flour tortillas, and a cup of WWII style navy coffee.
The Hotel was founded by Manuel Barbachano in 1924 as a small hunting lodge, he also built Baja's first power station, telephone company, and paved highway towards the boarder, so that the rich and famous Californians and thier guests, could gain easy access his hotel, during the prohibition years. Today a freeway connects Rosarito with the Mesa de Otay area of northeast Tijuana and the Otay Mesa Port of Entry to the United States. The hotel will give you a fast pass for the boarder crossing if you ask.
Due to so many famous females having visited the hotel, like Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Joan Bennett and Kim Novak. Kate Winslet even Marilyn Monroe who it is said, took off her shoes and run in the sand. That above the lobby entrance is a sign saying, "Through this door pass the most beautiful women in the world." I am sure that there are many more, who were the escorts of such guests as Orson Wells, Edward G. Robinson, Gregory Peck, Vincent Price, Robert Preston, Spencer Tracy, and Anthony Quinn, even Frank Sinatra and recently Robert Redford. Did Robert Stack
celebrate his birthday with champagne in the Azteca Restaurant?
Close by is 20th Century Fox location where, Titanic, Master & Commander and Pearl Harbor, were filmed. And believe it or not but Rosarito is the adopted hometown of Thomas Markle, father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, so they say.

TIP: Only a short drive away is Puerto Nuevo famous for its lobster's.

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel, Friday, Sat, and Sun in the older Coronado Complex.
CONS:
1) No hot water for showers in the morning. Complained to front desk but they did nothing. They didn't seem to care.
2) It is a LOUD hotel and beachfront with 80% being mexican families vacationing from California. Make sure you bring ear plugs but some noise will get past them.
3) In the high season (now) you will be paying USD$200 for a simple room with king bed. It was clean but needed TLC.
PROS:
1) It is an old hotel and the lobby + restaurant + bar are old but with much antique wood. Very beautiful. BUT they need to spend some money upgrading their hot water system so when we pay $200/night we don't feel like idiots for coming here.
2) All personnel working at the hotel were very courteous
3) Lots and lots of loud heavy bass music on the beaches and the limited streets outside the hotel. As an older person this is something I had a difficult time tolerating.

The RBH is celebrating it's 100th birthday next year so you can imagine that much of the hotel is dated, but it has a charm of it's own and the lobby is very pretty with lots of bright tiles and murals. Our suite was on the 15th floor of the tower. You could tell that they had remodeled it, putting in a more modern bathroom and flooring, and the kitchen area had been modernized as well. The bedroom was ok, but they didn't have any outlets to plug in cell phone chargers. The mattress was old but comforable enough and the sheets felt like they had been washed a million times because the material was "pilling". The sofa bed in the living room area was hard as a rock to sit on and had a hole in the fabric. BUT, there was a large window and sliding glass door and a small deck with a table and chairs overlooking the ocean and pool area that provided a beautiful view and the sunsets were gorgeous. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially Wendy at the front desk. And "Z", our bellman, was very nice and friendly. That was an added bonus since most hotels don't even have bellmen anymore. We ate a light dinner at the restaurant that was very good with good service. There was a lot of activity and music on the beach and pier and it was fun to be among all the festivities. The hotel is located in the heart of the shopping and restaurant district so everything is within walking distance and it was fun to walk on the lovely beach. For the price of the suite it was a pretty good deal. Just don't expect anything too plush.

This is a good place to have brunch or breakfast in the morning on a sunny day. It is located on the newly open Pier on the west side of the hotel. They said an abundance of breakfast items including omelets which I did order one. They also serve adult beverages and pastries. You can either dime on the pier itself in the open sun or inside the cafe itself. They have both covered and uncovered dining areas on the pier. Breakfast brunch is served until 1:00 if you do decide to order omelettes or pancakes make sure that you let your server know that you would like your meal hot. This makes the food taste better. However I might add that the mill I have was extremely delicious. I ordered the Omelette Al gusto. The ambience is family oriented and friendly. My suggestion is if you do decide to enjoy a meal or drink on this pier that you do it on a sunny day when there is not a lot of wind.

Spending two months at this beautiful resort that is ocean front was so awesome. We had two bedrooms, 2 baths, a full kitchen, a dining room and family room. We were ocean front with nothing but a gorgeous beach and huge pier and the Pacific Ocean always in our view. It was also so inexpensive, not only at the Rosarito Beach Hotel, but at restaurants and groceries all in walking distance from the hotel. My husband and I are both golfers and there were two fabulous, inexpensive courses less than 30 minutes from the hotel. It was the best long term vacation ever. Viva Rosarito!

The price creates certain expectations and these were not met at this hotel. Tiny run-down room with no comforts (f.ex a coffee maker), no heating. Ventilation was noisy and disturbed sleep at night. The view is great, but still, the room itself is worse than your regular cheap roadside motel room. Food at the restaurant was disappointing. The pools are not heated in winter (the hot tub was).

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights , thru RCI . The rooms are old outdated and crusty but you get what you pay for right? Regardless the place isn't the best if you can stay elsewhere. The beda are old amd noisy the towels are stained and the sheets smelled like body ordor we complaimed and all they said was housekeeping will check in the morning. The costumer Service is the worse on our last night there we were put in the pier taking pictures my husband fell over a bench which was already broken when a piece of the edge fell off and hurt himself the security guard immediately came to yell at us and didn't even ask if we were ok he harrased us and asked us to pay him 220 dollars . We were prompted to the front desk were they also hasseled us for money! The bench was already broken from what we saw In a picture and they insisted we paid them for an already broken bench! We refused ! They kept trying to scare us saying we must pay or face consequences , we were literally intimidated by them this was a scary situation, we asked to talk to manager but he never came! Everyone was rude and not helpful still dealing with them and the harassment until now ! Please stay away !

Check in process was slow. Got to room and it smelled like sewage. Took two hours to switch rooms. Internet is spotty and the username and passwords provided don’t work. Pool water in the newer pacific tower is murky. TVs in room don’t work and after 1.5 hours of waiting for someone to come help us get the tv to work they still haven’t shown up. Called housekeeping and front desk multiple times with no answer. Very frustrating.

I did a one week time share exchange and stayed in a room in the Condo Hotel side that had a kitchenette. I was hoping to fish on the pier every day and drink margaritas I made in my room by the pool. Couldn't do either. Found out upon arrival that the pier was closed to fishing even though their website talks about how great the fishing is from the pier. Upon check in, I got bounced around to 4 different rooms. sent twice to incorrect rooms, and one with a broken safe. I had to drag my luggage with me each time and couldn't unpack until 7:30PM. 3.5 hour runaround and all Johnny, front desk manager, would offer me was a dinner from the getaway menu which included no sides, no desert, and the best item was a chicken burrito. Hotel policy does not allow any food or drink not purchased at the hotel in the pool and other common areas including the condo's pool area. This despite being a condo hotel with kitchens and privately owned units. I would never buy at a place with this policy. Staff is great. views are great, location is great. Rosarito is quite dead during the week so be prepared.

Wow, this used to be my favorite place in Baja Norte but the service is not good now. The best help I had was from the cleaning woman, who helped me get the right key card after two given by front desk did not work. Having a great time here in Rosarito but I DO NOT LIKE the treatment by front desk when I tried to get a shower cap. I was told no, not here, despite me paying $160 a night for a room. Front desk ladies on this Thursday night 7/20 are rude. Prolly will look for other accommodations next time. Yes, I am American but fluent in espanol and I don’t expect to be treated like this.
I stayed in a much cheaper room last night in TJ, they had shower cap and were very pleasant.
