El Angel Azul is the perfect little hideaway in central La Paz. From the moment we were greeted at the door by Esther, we felt like this was our home away from home. The space is extremely beautiful and there's nothing better than kicking-back in the sunny courtyard hammocks with a cold Pacifico after a day exploring the city or at the beach. Travelling here during the pandemic felt extremely safe - everyone wore a mask, kept their distance and Esther has very strong protocols in place. Our only disappointment is that we couldn't stay longer!
This is the most secure (locked and monitored) oasis of calm in the heart of La Paz. Esther has created a courtyard of extraordinary beauty alive with the sounds of birds (including humming birds) and water planted with mature palms and cacti. Her long serving staff keep everything immaculate from your room to the kitchen. Esther organised great trips for us to swim with the sea lions at Espiritu Santos Island, the whale sharks and to see the grey whales. All her restaurant tips were spot on. This has to be the number one venue to stay in when you visit La Paz
Hang out in the peaceful courtyard—chaise or hammock and read or nap, head to the market for groceries to cook yourself, stroll the historical district and beachfront, take a daytrip on the water, enjoy the many good eateries and sunsets. Great for independent adult travelers and dog-lovers. The inn is safe and secure. Take the Baja Ecotour bus from the Cabo airport—it’s a good way to transition from your current reality to La Paz.
You'll be staying in a beautifully restored, historical building. It's not a hotel... You make your own coffee and tea. You get your own drinks and you wash your glasses and plates yourself. But that makes it even more homely. Esther is usually wandering around with her dogs and is available for a little chat. The location is convenient - just a five minute walk to the water's edge. Plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby. If you want a peaceful, relaxing getaway, this is the place. While travelling in Mexico, I stayed in an Air BnB, a five star hotel and El Engel Azul Hacienda. This was my favourite place to stay.
Beautiful traditionnal hacienda. We were warmfuly welcomed and taken care of by Esther during our stay. The place is quiet and relaxing. The construction offers natural freshness compared to outside warm temperature. 100% recommanded.
We stayed here for 7 nights and were lucky enough to have booked the suite, which has a gorgeous private terrace with outdoor shower. The owner (Esther) is very welcoming helpful and friendly... as well as her staff. We were on a diving holiday and thought the location is perfect.. walkable distance within centre of town. Very lucky to have found this. Would definitely use again. Highly recommended. Beautiful place.
I've never been so relaxed! Jimena's massage and facial left me all aglow after a day at the beach. As a long-time Baja resident, I've been calling Jimena "La Paz's best-kept secret" for years... And now she offers her massages and facials from a beautiful, serene space at the front of everyone's favorite La Paz boutique hotel: El Angel Azul. La Paz's best-kept secret just got even better!
El Angel Azul Hacienda is a beautiful, relaxed space with large courtyard and common living room and kitchen area that I was able to use to cook, eat and hang out. Every detail is taken care of and it is kept sparkling clean. Esther’s team with Enriquetta, Patty, Perla, Don Jose and Josephine were so friendly and welcoming. Mancha and Flaca are the sweet dogs who hang out with us. They all took good care of me. :) My room (6) was also very comfortable and had everything I needed, including two comfy reading chairs which I enjoyed relaxing in. This is a perfect location to explore La Paz and the surrounding beaches and marine preserves. El Estadio has amazing tacos next door. The Malecon is a 5-10 minute walk and the Catedral and Tues/Sat morning farmer’s market is a few short blocks away. I walked and took the bus everywhere. I highly recommend taking an excursion to Isla Espiritu Santo with Punta Baja and taking the nearby beach bus to Playa Balandra. As a solo woman traveler without a car, it was important to me that I felt safe walking and taking public transportation everywhere, and I did. Esther’s team looked out for me, and the location allowed me to walk around safely. I followed the usual precautions of dressing modestly, staying clear-headed and aware of surroundings, and not walking around alone late at night when no one else is around. The La Paz Malecon bus stop for the Aguilar, EcoBajaTours and the beach bus is 4 blocks away past the cathedral and down the hill towards the Malecon. Being in the middle of the city there is naturally street and neighbor noise but with ear plugs at night it is totally fine, even for a very light sleeper like me. It is a very worthy compromise for being so close to everything. Overall this was a wonderful stay, and my only wish is that I stayed longer. …
We spent a most lovely three nights as guests at the Angel. The staff is excellent, the grounds are lovely, the room and bed were quite comfortable. There are plenty of areas to sit and read or chat in the courtyard or to enjoy a beverage. The courtyard is a lovely old hacienda style and you will feel as if you are in the La Paz of yesteryear. It is in a good location several blocks from the waterfront and near several restaurants and coffee shops. We would definitely go back anytime.
Él Angel Azul is a beautiful retreat in the midst of La Paz. It's within easy walking distance of the Malecón and a number of shops and restaurants you'll want to try, including a bakery on the other side of the block (Momo), a coffee shop a couple blocks away (Doce Cuarenta) and a kick-ass taco stand right across the street (Tacos de Pescado). The grounds of of the hacienda are lovely. Esther has done a remarkable job of creating a relaxing oasis. My husband and I were convalescing from colds, and it was a perfect place to recover. There are markets nearby, and the kitchen is available for all cooking needs, though why cook when there are such good restaurants around? Esther is extremely helpful, and can provide the help you might need. Our room was comfortable, and there is air conditioning, but we found we didn't need it at night. The staff is friendly and keeps things extremely clean. There are even some resident Hooded Orioles and Costa's Hummingbirds that are great fun to watch. We liked this place so much that we're returning later in our trip.…
