We stayed a week in De Malee Villa, its two bedroom pool villa. Even though the premises are relatively poorly built (sloppy finishing) and in many places in poor condition, and with loud A/C, the hotel still deserves our good rating in this price category. The staff was very good, extremely helpful and flexible, which is not the case in big hotels with their limited authorities and fixed processes. Being a small hotel/villa everything was close-by. We really appreciated the hotel’s private shuttle service, which was complimentary at designated times but relatively cheap to use flexibly too. Overall cleanliness was good and we found our towels with varying “art/animal” forms each day to delight ourselves when arriving back from days adventures.
If you are looking for a huge resort with 101 facilities/ restaurants, yoga classes or activities this is not for you. If you are looking for a small quiet resort with some privacy, to chill by your private pool, have your floating breakfast, post it on your IG then perhaps this hotel is perfect. No beach on site but the public beach is 5 mins ride away. I am unable to comment on the nearby beach as I did not go there myself. My kids went with my extended family on one of the days... werent impressed... they'd rather swim in the hotel pool instead. I booked the pool villa suite. It was spacious and comfortable. They have in room massage services which worked out nicely for me. Breakfast spread was adequate. Not lavish but ok. Loved the passion fruit served!
We stayed here for 2 nights, treating ourselves to the grand pool villa. The rooms and the pools are beautiful, exactly what you see in the pictures and very private. However, we felt that there are a few things that the hotel really needs to take into account: - there are significant building works currently right next door to the resort. This is not only ugly, but was also a source of constant noise during our stay. We feel that it is the responsibility of a premium hotel to tell you about this before you make your booking. - breakfast: on our first day we had the floating breakfast. This is a lovely idea, but we were a bit disappointed by the selection. I am a vegetarian and got a place which had greasy sausage and ham covering quarter of it. We were not asked what eggs we wanted or what selection of food/juice etc. This meant that we didn’t like much of the breakfast and there was a lot of waste. The next morning we went to the breakfast buffet and were delighted/surprised to see that there was so much there that we love (pancakes, muesli, hash browns etc). Here you could also choose the type of eggs you can’t to eat. We would suggest to De Mallee that they should ask their guests what they would like to order for the floating breakfast in advance. This will lead to a better experience for the guest, and also significantly minimise food waste…
We were there for 4 days. The pool villas were exquisite. The bathrooms were very clean and the room was excellent. A special mention of the HD smartTV which had Netflix and prime along with a couple of local channels. They also had bedside music dock which was good. The complementary floating breakfast was unique and exciting. That being said, their lunch and dinner options require improvement - specially the beef burger which I felt was really average. Though a couple of staff were not fluent in English, they were very hospitable and polite. All in all- would recommend this place to any couples who are looking for a stay in Ao Nang...
