My friend and I spent a night in this Guest House (check-in on September 1). We were on a bicycle tour around Dubrovnik and stayed nearly every night at a new place. We had a wonderful time and were delighted with Croatian hospitality, until we arrived at this Guest House. To our surprise, we have received a very cold welcome from the host who was rude and mean to us. He met us at the habour which is only 200 meters away and instead of smiling or asking how are you, he looked at our luggage and angrily asked: "Do you expect me to carry all this luggage?". All our luggage is two trolley bags, one of which is cabin sized. And luggage transfer was one of the arrangements with the agency we booked our tour with. We are girls and had our bikes with us, so we could not to carry luggage and bikes at the same time. The host took one of the suitcases and disappeared for a quarter of an hour. We did not know back then that the Guest House was only 200 meters away (with no stairs on the way to it) and the host left our luggage on the road (yeah, why bother, if it is not yours). When the host got back to us, he was even more irritated, and refused to help us with the second suitcase, unless we begged him to do so. And he just left, refusing even to give us directions as how to arrive to the Guest house. "Look for them on the internet", he answered and went to talk to someone in the street. Is this really the way one should treat his guests? When, loaded with bikes and the second suitcase, we finally arrived at the Guest house, the host has got somehow less angry (was he satisfied?) and carried one of the bags upstairs. We would have preferred him not to, because, as a result, the handle of the suitcase got broken. It can happen if you are careless and use it to lift the suitcase. Owner or employee, it is really a shame that a guy like this works in hospitality industry and offers such service. About the room itself. We had an attic room which was offered to us as a twin room. But the room actually had a double bed (which is ok, but not suitable for grown-ups who are just friends) and a small bed (which was so narrow that even a slim girl like my friend was not able to turn without lifting herself, otherwise she would fall). The kitchen had no windows, so no natural light or fresh air. Other than that, the room was acceptable.…
We were in the middle of a bicycle tour and arrived with our bicycles and two suitcases to Mljet by ferry (1 September 2021) to spend 1 night at Matana. As our luggage transportation was included in the price, everywhere we went our luggage was carried by drivers/hosts. The first thing we heard from a man (owner at Matana?) who met us was "What? Do you expect me to carry these bags?" - Well, yes, we do, we have our bicycles to carry... He grabbed one suitcase and left. The next morning I noticed that the handle of my expensive Delsey suitcase was broken (thanks!). He came back and refused to carry another bag. "One of you can carry both bicycles, and the other one can take the bag." - We are sorry, but we paid for this... - "What?! No way, I don't have to carry your luggage, you either ask (beg?) me to help you, or I just leave!!" He shouted and he... just left. Apparently he might not have had this negotiated with the touristic company, but this is not the way to talk to the guests. You can always explain your position politely without shouting and threatening to leave. So we took both bicycles and the suitcase (we are two girls) and went towards the guesthouse. Conclusion: the island was great, the views were spectacular. The host was impolite, scary, and he must have broken my suitcase. I can recommend the island for sure, but I would never recomment getting in touch with such a person who treats guests this badly.…
For several years I have been coming to Pomena in the Mljet National Park for diving. I'm almost always staying at Guest hause Matana. I usually spend my day in a diving center and on a beach or walking through a national park. When I return I need a comfortable and quiet room near friendly people. All this and much more is offered by the Inka Matana family in their house and on the estate where they produce food and fishing for themselves and their guests. I am very pleased with their offer, professionalism and kindness. Soon I'll be happy to return!
Pansion Matana has a great location, just minutes to the National Park, with lovely sea view from the balconies, and clean and nicely decorated apartments. Matana family were helpful in providing information about the island and driving me to Babino Polje. Strongly recommend the place!
Pansion Matana is a family run restaurant on the water front in Mljet. Lunch here was included in our guided tour of Croatia. Starters were a fish soup and a salad. The main course was grilled Barracuda and Tuna with an olive oil sauce. This was accompanied by cooked vegetables and some deep fried stuffed zucchini blossoms. The food was all outstanding. The service was by the family members consisting of the wife and her three daughters. The three daughters were between 7-11 years old and wonderful little servers. Their smiles light up the day. The restaurant is in a nice location with great views of the water and a nice place to enjoy lunch. The food was good and we would eat here again if in the area. (Need to get a separate TA page for the restaurant.)
My fiance and I stayed with Inka and her family for two nights on the beautiful island of Mljet. Upon arrival, Inka gave us a helpful overview of the island and provided some great recommendations with respect to how we could spend our time over the next day and a half. That night, we were treated to a simple yet delicious meal (served by Inka's adorable daughters) of fish soup, salad (SO fresh -- Inka's family grows all their own produce) and fresh-caught fish with more vegetables, seasoned to perfection. Our room was comfortable and quiet, and we both slept very well. The next day, we took Inka's advice and rented bikes to ride around the beautiful lakes of Mljet. Before doing so, we asked Inka if it would be possible to have breakfast, and she whipped up a delicious spread of homemade bread, jams, cheese, prosciutto and perfectly scrambled eggs and coffee in under 20 minutes! Inka is the consummate hostess and truly made our stay on Mljet special.…
Inka and her family are such wonderful hosts! Make sure you order the home cooked meal that they offer. It's the best value in the area and delicious! Beautiful fish soup, bread, salad, perfectly grilled fresh fish and homegrown vegetable platter and a small dessert. More food than you could possibly eat. The room was nice and clean and had everything that we needed, including a fridge, private balcony and private bathroom with hairdryer. Inka explained the best things to do and see in the national park and Pomena when we arrived, which was extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. The location is perfect for exploring Mljet national park. The small lake is only 5-10 minutes walk away with beautiful aqua blue water. I recommend walking around the small lake and kayaking or cycling around the big lake. We did all three over 3 days and loved every second of it. It was cheaper to hire bikes in the main section of Pomena (100 kuna/day) rather than at the small bridge (180 kuna for 3-6 h). Thank you Inka and family for the wonderful holiday!…
A quite place, fantastic view over the harbor and a friendly staff. Inka is the boss, and when their 3 young nice daughters helped serving us the breakfast , we were charmed. After arriving we rent our bikes. We found back to the two nice lakes in the national park. One of the most quiet and relaxing places. Goggle the Mljet national park and you are sold. Inka and Vicko served good food and Pomena have other charming restaurants too. We have just booked our fourth trip to this lovely place Matana, summer 2017 :)
Stayed here two nights. My room was clean and had a balcony with a sea view. Full equiped (AC, wifi, ...) The staff are very helpful and friendly, Inka (the boss) is a very energetic and welcoming woman. I ate at the restaurant on site (10% off), they serve very good fresh fish. I recommend this place !
Ourappartment was spacious, calm and pracical. The balcony is a big bonus. We appreciated all the tips given by our host at our arrival. We've eaten one night at the pension and we definitely recommend the sea bass !
