Detailed Reviews
First of all, I have been to Austria many times as a kid. My memories of B&B in Austria are scarce, but I remember cheap overnights in traditional houses with my parents. When Ireturned August 2016 for a hike in Vorarlberg, I was truly amazed as to how much has changed in this country. And Hotel Baeren truly does everything right, from start to stay to the very end. Just perfect! The sign at the door saying "please leave your negative energy right here" welcomes you to an unhurried, yet very warm and welcoming staff, which is very attentive and not just nice, but honestly open and its friendliness comes from the heart. Check is was easy, very friendly and fast. Room was very clean, wooden bed frames and floors, big bathroom with bathtub and included shower, a refrigerator and a kitchenette to do your own meals if you wish so. Also the room had an extra couch where another person has place to sleep, besides the two we were.
The breakfast next morning was breathtaking. I have never seen so many home made offers on a breakfast table. Joghurt, Quiche, Marmalade, Oat meal, and so on. Fresh fruits, fresh boiled eggs and the most tasty coffee or cappuccino I have ever had, made from an expert and decorated with hearts and much love in detail. Several sorts or local breads, together with cheeses and sliced meat ad to it and the list goes on, I cannot list them all. We spend over an hour and more to try everything and were very relaxed when we left each morning after breakfast. Best time is right at 8 in the morning, as it gets quite busy later. Outside seating in summer is also possible, which ads to the very nice atmosphere. Overall one of the best breakfasts I have ever had, and I am comparing to some 5-Star-Hotels I have been to, with maybe more on offer, but less taste. This was just about right and perfect.
Leaving the Hotel Baeren for hikes is easy and its centrally located. Also included in its price is museums, public transport and swimming pools of the area, which you can get though exchanging your voucher at the local tourist office. Now that is more than a bargain, its much more value for money than expected. Price of Hotel is still Budget (not for very much longer if they keep getting 5-Star Reviews!) and also their self made cakes for tea or coffee hours are to die for. I also had Mozzarella di Buffalla with tomatoes and Basil and together with 2 Coffees and a cake it was no more than 20 Euros, now that I call affordable good AND organic food! Simply best Austrian Hotel I have ever been to! And the area ads to it.

Great location in the middle of the village. Large room with lots of natural light. Mini kitchen which was great as it had a kettle and a fridge for late night cups of tea. The breakfast is really quite special with a fantastic choice of everything in plentiful quantities. All locally sourced where possible. The make your own birchenmusli was a real winner full of fruit and seeds. The sauna on the 4th floor is very modern and functional and very quiet so it is very relaxing. There is a chill out room on the floor above buy I prefer ed to go back to my room to relax.
Getting to the ski lift was super easy and convenient as there is a bus outside the door and it literally takes 5 minutes as it was just a bit too far to walk in ski boots carrying your skis. As it is free it is a no brainer and super convenient. There is a skiroom o the first floor which you can access from outside at the back of the hotel.
The staff were very welcoming and super efficient.
There is a pizza restaurant on the first floor and a bar on the ground floor. U fortunately I did not have time to try either out.
The loft capacity in Mellau has been substantially upgraded with a brand new gondola bahn in 2015. Once at the top of the mountain the skiing options were varied and great.
Definitely worth considering both the hotel bear and Mellau for a skiing holiday as the quality and experience are great and the cost is very reasonable.

Went here for a walking holiday. It's in an absolutely stunning location and the hotel itself is lovely. Big comfy room, good facilities. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. The breakfast the best I've ever had. Loved it.

An amazing hotel with such a contemporary feel, quite different from our other experiences in Austria. The whole place was spotlessly clean and everything was immaculate. A fantastic breakfast with everything we could have wanted and more. Lovely little touches that can set a hotel apart such as a personalised welcome postcode saying 'we hope you enjoy your stay with us'. The staff were attentive, polite and informative. We had a lovely evening meal in the Pizzeria on site making everything easy after a long day travelling.
We found this on Tripadvisor but booked directly and the communication with the hotel was excellent. Would highly recommend staying here and we would love to return.
Thank you

We were really amazed by the whole Hotel Bären experience...great direct and efficient booking process and even cheaper than the platforms, very warm welcome with cold brewed coffee by the young and authentic hipster team.
Top surrounding in the middle of the city, nice interior design with superior Café Deli incl. a jaw-dropping breakfast plus a good solid pizzeria on the 1st floor.
The 26 rooms are spacious but basic. The beds are just perfect...new, big, nice and healthy mattresses...what else do you need? Only the hotel-owned gin is still missing ;-) But a gin from the region is sold in its own merchandising shop filled with decoration stuff.
Found our new paradise in a small ski resort Damüls...and will return soon. Thanks again to the team for their support.

My wife and I took a few days off kids and travelled to Mellau to hike, relax and eat the great food of the Vorarlberg region.
Everything we thought we would find, we found. Hotel Baeren is a wonderful place in the center of the village. Very modern but still cozy, very laid back with super friendly staff and a superb breakfast buffet.
When you stay in the region for three nights or more you get a region pass which enables you to use the summer lifts, all public transportation and many other things for free.
Fun times. I highly recommend the hotel and the Bregenzwald/Vorarlberg Region.

We recently stayed in hotel baeren and can't rate it highly enough. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the mountain views were incredible. The breakfast is in a great little cafe within the hotel and really was excellent with a selection of hot and cold options. The hotel is brilliantly located in the middle of the town and there is also a pizzeria within the building- we ate there twice and both the pizza and the steak were great. Most importantly, the hotel staff were wonderful- we mentioned that we had to leave prior to breakfast on our final day and they brought us breakfast and smoothies to our room the night before that we could take with us on the journey. Much appreciated and we will definitely be back!

Price/performance not fair! We made a reservation for 2 people and didn't have a reserved seat. You have to pay extra for coffee, scrambled eggs, etc. I would never eat breakfast here again for €67.30 for 2 people. The buffet is very small and there isn't much choice. I would rather go to the Hotel Amrai in Schruns 1000 times. EVERYTHING is included there for €22, the atmosphere is much more comfortable and convincing.
