We only stayed for one night, as a nice surprise after I proposed to my other half. Made even better by the fact we'd been living in a camper van for 3 weeks. Such a great night, and a brilliant meal cooked by Tony. The views are stunning, and I don't think anything could have been any better. Would love to go back at some stage.

Anne & Tony have created a unique vacation experience at The Sounds Retreat. As their guests, you have complete privacy. Your suite has an unparalleled view of Marlborough Sound with a private deck/large hot tub/glass dining room; all overlooking the Sound. Tony is a talented chef who welcomes providing fresh/delicious locally sourced foods for your particular palate. Both Tony and Anne are available to advise you on activities that suit your interests. Together they create a balance of service and privacy for their guests. We treasure memories of our stay at The Sounds Retreat! Walking the Queen Charlotte track with Bruce, their border collie, delicious 5 star dinners designed by Tony, as well as a relaxed, local pub down the road, coming home to the hot tub and views of the Sound after experiencing the Queen Charlotte trek...superb!

We spent our first 3 nights in New Zealand at this truly wonderful private lodge overlooking Marlborough Sounds where we were looked after by Tony and Anne. The lodge is very comfortable (with a separate laundry room) with a lovely deck with hot tub and sun loungers and a small separate eating area where we had the most delicious breakfasts and dinners. We ate in on all 3 nights and on each occasion Tony cooked the most wonderful food to which he paired various delicious wines. Nothing was too much trouble and both Tony and Anne made our first few days of our trip perfect. I highly recommend this gem!

This luxury lodge deserves its title and it’s more than difficult to find something to criticise. Anne and Tony (the owners) are really trying everything to make you feel like home. The room is magnificent, the view spectacular and the surrounding worthwhile to explore. We stayed for 4 nights and regretted deeply that we had to leave so early. The only downside was the fact that we only asked Tony once to prepare a „gourmet dinner“. We can definitely confirm that he is a great chef! Good to know if you want to come with friends: next winter Anne and Tony are building a second private suite....

Kathy and I have just spent four nights at this beautiful retreat. Anne and Tony are amazing hosts, great fun, and we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The accommodation is extremely luxurious and the attention to detail is evident in every aspect. We had delicious breakfasts and an evening meal expertly created by the two highly talented hosts. We couldn’t speak more highly of the whole experience and will definitely return. James & Kathy
