With close attention to detail and exceptional service, Fairlawns creates an intimate atmosphere where some of the globe’s most vibrant personalities converge. The chic, upscale suites are individually decorated in varying themes ranging from Eastern influence to French provincial, each featuring every desired modern amenity. The hotel also caters to a variety of culinary tastes with an array of elegant dining experiences to choose from. Located in Johannesburg - South Africa’s largest city and gateway to the rest of Africa - Fairlawns is situated just 6 km from central Sandton, and 20 km from the Johannesburg city centre to offer the upmarket traveller a delicate mix of luxury and convenience. Established in 1997, Fairlawns, or “FBH” as it’s come to be affectionately known by Managing Director, Michael Kewley, is a property proud in heritage and character. Previously a luxury private residence, it is only fitting that the property has transformed “herself” into the stylish hotel, wit

We stayed over for two nights on our way to visit a couple of safari camps. We stayed in room 16 which had 1 and 1/2 baths with a walk in shower and jacuzzi soaking tub. The room had a dining table, a desk and a couch. The staff was very courteous and the dining room meals were good. The room had a private balcony overlooking the pool and garden areas. We spent time at the spa and Moso gave an incredible massage and the spa grounds were very special with many tucked away private treatment rooms. There are also complimentary areas available to hotel guest who do not seek a spa treatment. This boutique hotel is outside of the city and feels like a secret retreat. We would definitely recommend this resort just 30 min away from the airport for any of your stay over needs.

Beautiful place, lovely garden and Spa, rooms are exquisite. Our welcome wasn't what was expected as the staff member was distracted and presumed we were going to show ourselves to the room. The coffee machine wasn't plugged in and was difficult to do so and pods weren't replenished. Menus need to be changed as food items hadn't been available for months. The food itself was good and portion sizes were ample. The wait staff were very friendly and always smiling, especially Mbali and Tersia. We will return, maybe not in a hurry though.

I’ve rated the stay here a 2/5 because I really felt that at the hefty price per night charged by the hotel, the service were facilities were below par. My husband and I booked in for the night after what had a hard work week for a spa and overnight stay at their normal prices not specials. The room called a Chateaux Suite (room 34), was not well appointed. The TV did not work at all and when they eventually managed to get it work, there was no audio and then we realised that the room has a compact Dstv package. Which is absolutely shocking for a 5star boutique hotel. I called reception to get someone to come fix the tv and also send a bottle of wine. Wine arrived 30min later, the wrong bottle and the receptionist who took my order was so defensive abt it and hung up the phone on me 😂. Then the aircon didn’t work, was stuck on 30 degrees the whole night. The spa and restaurant in the hotel are world class though. And as usual the food was amazing and my treatments were amazing.

Wow! Biggest disappointment ever. From start to finish. I have travelled globally extensively and as a person who lives in JHB who was looking for a one night luxury escape I got nothing but excuses and drama and subpar service. The room tv’s have a compact bouquet offering which is subpar even for a hotel which is 3 star. At R4,300 for the night I had high expectations only to be met with below subpar everything except the restaurant

We came in the week for a night away. The grounds and spa were incredible. Everything was great except there was no hot water and water pressure when we tried to shower. The front desk was informed but there was no apology from a manager the next day or after our stay.

Hotel is beautiful. Rooms are lovely but the service was terrible. Booked and paid for our room in advance, requested a baby cot and it’s only when we checked in at 9pm that they made arrangements to bring a cot in the room. The next day we left the room at 2pm and came back at 7pm and room hadn’t been cleaned. This was very upsetting as we had a little baby that we had to put to sleep and the hotel staff was now cleaning the room at night. We were told to inform them next time when we were leaving so that they come and clean 👀 The majority of the staff are not friendly at all. Only one lady, Nozipho was absolutely a doll and a tall coloured guy, never got him name. All in all we didn’t enjoy the stay for the money we paid. If you value service as part of the experience when on holiday I definitely would not suggest this hotel

We stayed at the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg before our safari began and then ended our Safari with a night at the Fairlawns…..wish we had stayed back at the Saxon which was an amazing experience. The Fairlawns while looking good on the outside has some serious flaws for what they charge for a room - we stayed in the villas. I’ll start with the bathroom which is a fairly important part of any room - we arrived to only one bath towel and called to ask more to be sent up as after the safari - we looked forward to a comfortable rejuvenating experience. No face clothes were available and coffee was also not replenished in the room. Housekeeping was slow and we ended with using a hand towel as had a dinner reservation to get to. There were two sinks - both not working properly - one didnt hold water as the plug didnt work and the other one was so clogged that it held your dirty water. No sign of a Q-tip, nail file or any amenities were to be found except Kleenex. The bidet was dirty and looked like it was coming apart from the wall. At turn down, no bottles of water were provided and the mini bar which was proudly stated as all inclusive, only held Diet Coke and some ice tea - not even water - let alone any liquor (unlike the Saxon who had it fully and complimentary stocked) The cream rinse was not replenished and was so low that you had to beat it against your hand to get some out. The hair dryer is one step up from the old vacuum cleaner type hair dryers - secured to the wall and it overheated numerous times while trying to dry my hair. The door to the patio needs adjustment and required a slight kick to get it opened - and opened onto a patio with too much bird poop. So yes, the rooms need some TLC. We booked massage appointments and not only were we a few minutes late going into our appt but after being shown to our treatment rooms, the therapist left for at least another 5 minutes - my husband’s therapist said she had to go to the bathroom so not sure if they dont schedule their treatments very well to give them time in between or if this therapist was just lazy? While it is a beautiful environment, the treatments were disappointing. Meals were inconsistent with dinner being excellent but breakfast quite average however, the long and short of this is….for such a pricey hotel - they should be much better managed.
