I had been wanting to sail around the Greek islands for some time and was waiting for the children to both be competant swimmers, my son is 7, may daughter is 9. we were not disappointed, what any awesome couple of weeks in Greece.

This is our 3rd visit to vounaki. The biking is awesome MTB and Rd. However, it’s pretty much DIY guiding these days if you are a keen cyclist. Much less on the programme than in previous years. Don’t see the rationale of a green MTB ride at 2pm and then a green MTB ride at 4pm. (They were also exactly the same route. They strangely seem to cater for novices who want to pootle into town (don’t see why you need a guide for this) Such a shame as the guiding has made our holiday in the past. We did also request that the bigger bike rides coincided with the kids club for the second week (They went out on the mornings that the kids weren’t in club) but unfortunately this wasn’t possible!!! On the plus side, Henry the bike guy was very helpful fixing my daughters’ crutches. The sailing, waterskiing and tennis were awesome. You can kayak into town for a coffee to the fab yacht bar. The food is really good and they cater really well for allergies. Everything is labelled. The waiting staff are amazing. Seems like the fun police have arrived at this resort though. Everything is much more serious. Can’t do this because of health and safety or can’t do that because of insurance. I get the impression that a big cost cutting exercise is in place. A few people said they would not return to Neilson as they were getting less and less. To sum up, Vounaki has everything for every discipline and is a beautiful place. Please don’t ruin it Neilson for the last few quid.

Professional hospitality from well trained staff. Activities were equally very well run. Management here visible and charming across the board. Particularly recommend cocktail making and wine tasting. ( separate events) So chilled.

Vounaki is in a lovely setting on a hillside with terracing and lovely views. The transfer is fairly short which is a real bonus though having to lug your cases on your own up steep flights of stairs can be pretty daunting for some. The kit on the beach is not as extensive as other Neilson resorts and not as new, although having said that I was perfectly happy sailing the Supernova's and the Cat's all week. The beach crew were very helpful and it is real boon when others rig and derive the boat for you. As a sailor I would say the resort is more geared towards cycling and other activities. This could be to do with the predominant wind conditions which tended to favour beginners. There was a good blow on a couple of days and I was surprised that the water was not packed - but perhaps this is because the resort is favoured by those learning to sail / windsurf. Having had two holidays in Less, the wind here is definitely of a lesser order. We had one day yacht sailing and went to Meganissi, a great day sailing with good wind and a lovely restaurant for lunch. Our main criticism of this resort is to do with the food. The choice generally is very limited especially at dinner. Other Neilson resorts are much better. However on the plus side it is only a very short walk into the village where there is a good selection of bars and restaurants. Recommended

This one just ticks all the boxes - 30 minute airport transfer, 15 minute walk into Paleros with lots of tavernas and bars, fantastic staff and brilliant facilities. Mountain and road bikes were great, with excellent bike leaders on fantastic guided routes. Water ski and wake board instructors just wonderful, sailing and windsurfing ditto, fitness instructor was incredible with fantastic classes, tennis coaching first class - no names because they change over time, but you know who you are !! Everyone professional, patient, great fun and everyone taking pains to make sure you were enjoying yourself. The resort staff were fab - Resort Hosts were so funny, and present throughout the days and evenings (one exception - Theo, the resort manager, kept such a low profile that he was positively sub-terranean, but nobody missed him!) and really went the extra mile. Although our 'kid' is 20, we were very aware how attentive, caring and hard workiong the kids clubs staff were - they kept all the kids of all ages active, happy and safe - absolutely first class. Bar and restaurant staff efficient, happy and friendly - food was typically Greek, well prepared and presented - if I was being really picky it was perhaps a little repetitive over two weeks, but we were never bored, and with Neilsons you do eat out three evenings a week, so overall it was great. Modern rooms - no frills, but everyting there including tea and coffee making facilities, and air-con! huge modern bathrooms with great showers. Chamber-maids kept rooms and bathrooms spotless. Gardens were kept immaculate, pools clean and not too busy. So much to do, such great staff - already booking another week at the end of the season! Cannot recommend highly enough if you are into a full on active holiday! So much to do, such wonderful staff, and the final icing on the cake for us was Neilson's environmental awareness - compostible straws (made from straw!), compostible 'plastic' cups for the beach (made from corn starch) and no single use plastic bottles (you get your own water bottole topped up anywhaere with filtered chilled water).
