This is our second time to this property as a couple. We absolutely love the peace and tranquility of this location and the setup of the bedroom which makes you feel like you're sleeping outside. Enjoyed the sunset from the veranda every night and the local sights at a slow pace during the days.
This enchanting spot is lovingly maintained and decorated with tropical flowers. The hosts are welcoming and available if needed but aren't intrusive. The grounds are beautiful, the views of the ocean from the deck are gorgeous, and the ambiance invites you to unplug, sit back, and take it all in. One of the owners lives in the small house attached to the B&B room and deck, but she was careful to respect our privacy. (The other owner has a separate house on the property.) Our room, which was stocked with interesting books, had a large, comfortable bed (though with one side right up against the louvered windows, making it a bit of an effort for one of us to get out of) overlooking the garden and the sea beyond. The nighttime breeze through the windows made sleeping comfortable. There's no air conditioning and the fan has to be set on low at night because the property uses solar energy only, but we didn't find that to be a problem. There's an outdoor kitchen (small fridge, stocked with breakfast supplies and drinks) that we found fairly easy to cook dinner in. There are a couple of small table and chair sets on the deck, so it's a very comfortable place to dine al fresco and take in the changing sky as the sun sets (can't be seen directly, but still beautiful). We saw lovely rainbows, and the night sky was wonderful. Lots of bird sounds rounded out the beautiful ambiance (frogs croaking were promised but never materialized). The bathroom is good-sized, with plenty of towels. The B&B is about 10 miles beyond Hana as you head around the island, so there's no need to travel back via the slow, beaten track of the Road to Hana, despite what your car rental company will tell you. The drawback of this location is that, if you stay more than a day or two at the B&B (recommended--we stayed four), you'll have to battle the traffic on the narrow road between it and Hana to take advantage of that extra time. The driving is tiring and you have to be alert at all times (especially around waterfalls), but it's worthwhile nonetheless. We had just enough WiFi access to allow us to keep in touch with family if we wanted to, but Ala'aina is about as perfect a place to disconnect as you can ask for.…
Mahalo Nui Loa Sam for a very relaxing stay and also your advice on to do sites to visit. Your home was an oasis of quiet after the hectic pace of Kihei. Breakfast on the deck and the fresh fruit and goodies you provided were a very nice touch, as was the option to cook our own meals if we so chose. Best wishes Don & Dodie.
Ala'aina Ocean Vista is peaceful and gorgeous. Sam and Mercury are kind and wonderful. A great place to close your eyes, listen, and reflect. With eyes open, this place is stunningly gorgeous. Pick some star fruit! Our only regret is that we booked too short a stay. We hope to return soon.
Sam and Mercury have created a truly amazing place to relax and restore in a beautiful, remote part of Maui. The drive along narrow mountain roads is well worth it. We explored the gorgeous beaches and waterfalls that surround Hana by day and played board games and drank wine under the start by night. A fantastic place to stay!
