Staying at this auberge is like being in France without having to speak French. The dinner menu was the same both nights but off-menu suggestions are invited, and we chose an old favourite crepes suzette. We were a little disappointed to find no potato option other than frites. However we always enjoy the food at Barley Bree, with excellent wines... More

We stayed at the Barley Bree for two nights on a recent trip to Scotland. Our room was small but immaculate with everything we needed. I cannot say enough about the service or the food. Everyone was both friendly and professional. We had 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners and 1 lunch in the restaurant and all of our food was superb.... More

We have dined here a number of times before and thought we would introduce our foodie friends to the delights of this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Seasonal, freshly prepared, first class ingredients, prepared with care and attention to detail. The food is excellent. The service matches the standard of food, rarely seen in many other establishments. At £19.50 for... More

Behind the unprepossessing exterior hides a little gem full of French chic & Gallic charm. The rooms are tastefully decorated & the bed supremely comfortable but the star of the show has to be the quality of the food. Dinner & breakfast were absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared and served by delightfully attentive staff. This place fully deserves the accolades accorded... More

This small hotel is attached to the Barley Bree Restaurant. The rooms are small, but extremely well designed. Each room has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Every detail is very well thought out including the provision of a heavy duty extension cord so that one has a mirror to use while drying hair! I know that sounds silly,... More

We had previously stayed here a few years ago on our way through Scotland and this visit did not disappoint. We stayed in room 1 which was spacious and nicely decorated with dual aspect windows, a 6ft comfortable bed and very nice bathroom. The food was exceptional, we managed 3 courses plus an amuse but no room for coffee. Between... More

This was just what we needed: a good restaurant, with rooms, clean, friendly and well-run. We stayed one night. Greatly enjoyed the food - the menu is well-constructed with something to suit most tastes...and the execution of the dishes was very good. The restaurant has a 'coaching inn' feel to it, cosy, we visited in May, but I am sure... More

The food was excellent. I had a smoked salmon terrine followed by a trio of Aberdeen Angus cuts (fillet, cheek and tongue) and a dessert of lemon posset and rhubarb sorbet. Prices were very reasonable - about £40 per head for some really top quality cooking.

Oh my goodness! The dining experience in Barley Bree was stupendous. The staff friendly and welcoming and the three course meal, with an extra mini starter served delightfully in an expresso cup were taste sensations so delicious I savoured every mouthful. I could have cried that we were not staying in their beautiful rooms upstairs and instead had booked in... More

Had lunch at Barley Bree as a treat a few Saturdays ago. It is a lovely old Coaching Inn with tasteful decor and a quiet relaxing atmosphere. They have a varied menu with a mix of French/Scottish dishes. We enjoyed soup and lovely home made bread as a starter followed by a melt in the mouth Beef Bourguignon. Very tasty.... More
