We enjoyed a 2 night stay here and it was a nice place to be. A little disappointed when we asked for an early breakfast and where told milk would be left in an ice bucket that none was there and we had to skip it. Would still stay there again quite happily as it's a lovely part of the... More

Dear Ffmn, Thanks for your review. Glad you liked the Hotel and our good food. Regarding your early breakfast, we serve breakfasts from 0700 to 0930. Earlier service (or substantial packed breakfast) can be pre-arranged...we do this a lot for our Fishermen guests. On checking in, you requested breakfast at 0830 on the first morning and "may" require a breakfast... More

We came here as a family for lunch as I pass this every day going to work and noticed the sign outside which states that they serve bar lunches. It was our first visit and the food was delicious. Good choice of food on the menu. The bar itself was cosy with a pool table and darts. It's worth the... More

Wife and I recently travelled to Ballater on a short break and decided to come off the A90 en route and travel the short distance to the Marykirk Hotel for some lunch. Received a warm and friendly reception by the staff in the "Stables" and the atmosphere in the bar was pleasant and relaxed; not too busy with a few... More

Was put up here for a nightshift work placement, treated splendidly, was given a room that was best placed for no noise, so that I could get a sleep. Worked a treat, slept like a log, my only problem was that because I was working a nightshift I was not really in the mood for food and I really fancied... More

Lovely traditional pub, very friendly service, good menu all cooked by very good chef. Even a basic mushroom omelette felt like a special dish. Prices reasonable. Wood burning stove was very welcome on a cold day. Will definitely be back.

Had lunch here with a friend, we were the only two eating, such a shame because the food is very good and very reasonably priced. The lady serving was friendly and helpful. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Marykirk Hotel is situated in the charming village of Marykirk, just 4 miles from Montrose town centre, and 30 minutes drive south of Aberdeen along the A90 dual carriageway. The Hotel nestles in the rolling Montrose countryside only 200 metres from the River Esk, world famous for its salmon and trout fishing. A former Coaching Inn, the hotel was built in the mid 1800s. As a Grade C Listed Building, it still retains original charm and character although tastefully modernised: all guest room accommodation have en-suite facilities, central heating, flat screen TVs, and tea/coffee making facilities. Standing in an acre of grounds, the Marykirk Hotel has a landscaped beer garden plus a small front car park and a rear car park for 20+ cars. Both car parks are monitored by CCTV. The Hotel has a full Hotel Licence and a Children's Licence. Families with children are particularly welcome in both the bar and restaurant. As well as our cosy Stables Bar serving bar meals every lunchtime and evenings, the Marykirk's Esk Restaurant seats 35 persons and is open in the evenings from Friday to Sundays, offering quality dining at competitive prices. ... more   less
