We spent a few days travelling around the Blaenavon area, and stayed centrally at The Rifleman's Arms. David and Jackie are delightful hosts .... our room was well appointed, quiet, clean and tidy, with a large bathroom and a comfortable bed. Breakfast was hearty and nicely cooked. At reasonable rates, we were very happy! Will stay here again next time... More

Visited with a large family group for a meal on a Saturday night and the experience couldn't have been better. We all pre ordered to give the kitchen a fighting chance and they duly delivered. The starters were brought out quickly and to a high standard. The chicken strips were succulent and tasty, accompanied with a good side salad. Likewise... More

Group of around 40 or more booked the one room for a Christmas evening lunch. 3 course meal with the main being a roast (choice of duck & orange) too. The prawn cocktail was great, the roast itself was outstanding (the beef just falls apart) and the dessert was very good. An excellent meal with plenty of veg, potatoes and... More

Awesome food, attentive staff and fantastic value for money! Situated in a Heritage town will interesting history. The pub itself is at the top of town at the entrance to the Keepas roads with beautiful mountain scenery. The dining room is very spacious and has a relaxing atmosphere. All food is home cooked and prepared fresh. Best Sunday lunch around.

Git to be honest I didn't expect more than a pleasant meal when I got there, but was surprised with s beautiful Sunday lunch! Gorgeous meat, I had lamb but stole half my mans beef as it was so lovely. Falling apart soft! I asked how it was cooked and they have proper joints of meat carved nice and thick,... More

Popped down to the area for informal business and this Pub was recommended to us. Very friendly owners, dog and parrot, excellent well sized bedrooms. Cleanliness was apparent throughout. Did not get the chance to eat in restaurant but bar menu was far better than average and steaks were succulent ! Breakfast was full english but cereals and fruit were... More

Great food served by friendly staff and they cannot do enough for you. Everytime we go my husband has their homemade Steak Pie. We have yet to have a meal there we have not enjoyed. When our friends visit from Surry this is the first restaurant we have to book as he cannot believe the quality of the food and... More

After visiting The Big Pit we called in to The Rifleman for Sunday lunch. We arrived minutes before they stopped serving food at 3.00 p.m. but were still met with a warm welcome by the staff. The restaurant area is set out a bit like a canteen with tables filling the room but saying that the food was excellent. A... More

Why, in an unprepossessing inn in the middle of a coal town in south Wales, would you ever expect to find anything other than a mediocre British lunchtime experience? I wouldn't, for one, but I and my group of friends were bowled over by the generous and warm hearted welcome by the team of very attractive young ladies behind the... More
