For anyone who's contemplating a stay at Fowl Cay, you've already heard how relaxing it is, how the service can't be beat, how the food is delicious. I absolutely agree with all of that, so I won't bother to expand on that any further. I'm posting this review to talk about something we hadn't needed to think about until recently - the safety of Fowl Cay in the era of COVID-19. My family of 4 spent spring break on Fowl Cay, and it turns out we were the last guests welcomed before they needed to temporarily shutter for the pandemic. It was a very surreal time - one of uncertainty, where things were changing everyday. Despite all of that, they still made us feel comfortable. Our welfare was their top priority - and they updated us regularly about the lastest news/restrictions from the Bahamian government, flight availabilities, etc. They knew we wanted to enjoy our vacation, but not at the expense of being stuck there indefinitely, or getting sick. They were in direct contact with Makers Air, specifically about us, to make sure we would still be able to get our flight home. They were also completely on top of all the latest news & postings from the Bahamian government. Despite being on a tiny island FAR from giant the cruise ships or crowded Nassau, they took every precaution to keep us safe & obey restrictions as though we were right next door to the threat. When the Bahamas closed down restaurants & bars, we were told we could no longer eat up at the hill top restaurant. Instead, they brought our multi-course dinners down to enjoy on the deck of our Villa. When a large boat arrived at the dock to bring supplies, it was greeted by staff wearing masks & gloves (this was WAY before the US was telling us to wear masks). When recreational boating was locked-down, they told us that (unfortunately) we would not have access to our boat either. And while that was disappointing, it was impressive how strictly they were following the guidelines. We recognized that they weren't going to make any exceptions when it came to the safety of their guests & staff, and that was extremely comforting in such uncertaintly. Even without all the usual ammenities being open, we had a fanstastic time. We were sheltered in paradise, and still felt very spoiled & doted on. As our vacation on Fowl Cay wrapped up, just a handful of staff stayed on the island for the anticipated lock-down. They were receiving shipments of supplies to keep busy - making use of their time by making repairs and improvements to the resort. That also impressed us, because it showed how much they care about the success/standard of their resort! SO - based on our experience there at the start of the pandemic, I would feel extremely safe staying at Fowl Cay once restrictions lift & they are able to welcome guests again. To this day, the Exumas have seen NO cases of Covid-19, and I would be honorod to "Shelter in Paradise" there again!

Longest review I have ever written because it costs a lot, so I want to try to be the most useful in helping you decide. But in the end, DO IT!! My husband and I stayed five nights in late January in the Linden. Full disclosure, I’m more of a stormy seas, rainy Scotland/Ireland kind of girl. My husband loves the islands though and after an exhaustive search, we settled on Fowl Cay, in my effort to give island vacationing one more chance. I am so glad I did!! I have always found island vacations lacking - typically not the cleanest accommodations, too much of a laze faire customer service attitude and generally not worth the price. Fowl Cay is none of those and is the ONLY place I will do an island vacation at again. Pros: STAFF: The most friendly and helpful service I’ve probably ever experienced - and I travel fairly often. Everyone and I mean everyone has a kind hello or greeting, and there is nothing too much for you to ask for. You never feel like you are a bother or that the people who work there don’t want to be there. I’m a skeptic and critical when I pay hard earned money for service and I can’t find one thing negative or critical to say about the staff. They are all simply wonderful!! From the helpful, efficient, and kind management staff, to our amazing, lovely, and welcoming villa host, Mel, to the most amazing and friendly bar tender, to even the people who do countless jobs (I’m sure) around the property to keep it looking so lovely and who I didn’t have real interactions with - you would see them driving or walking by and they were all friendly and brought a happy attitude to the whole place. Really, whoever hires these wonderful people, job well done, very, very impressed!! THE VILLA: Linden is wonderful! It’s the perfect size for a couple. It was VERY clean, the AC worked wonderfully, the view can’t be beat and it was very quiet. The bed was comfortable, the pillows nice and they use pillow protectors under the pillow cases - I didn’t have to use my own travel sets!! Impressed!! There is no TV in the bedroom, which I didn’t love but my husband did. Very good light blocking blinds and drapes. Only the doors to the veranda open, none of the windows do, so it’s hard to get a cross breeze. The veranda doors do have a separate set of screen doors. Thus, we had to use the AC much of the time. The bathroom didn’t have any of the typical mold or dated look of other tropical locales I have stayed in. It was all VERY clean and updated. The shower had nice pressure and good temperature - and two shower heads, and was very large. The kitchen, living and dinning areas were all equally clean and adequately updated (tiled counters as opposed to hard surfaces make it look a little dated). The fridge and pantry are FULLY STOCKED with everything you could want. Ours had, as far as I can recall: Several large bags of (US) name brand chips Peanuts butter, jelly, jams Protein bars Condiments Oatmeal, cereal, etc Eggs, BACON, couple different juices, milk Fresh fruit and veg Lunch meat As you use items, they are automatically restocked, like a wonderful magical fairy did your grocery shopping for you. The veranda overlooks the ocean and seems to be the quieter side of the island. There isn’t a beach for lounging, but that’s why you have a boat people!! We looked at a few other villas while we were there that were unoccupied. Here’s my two cents on those - and note I’m biased as I believe Linden is magical in every way: Birdcage is very nice on the top floor, but the additional bedroom downstairs had a bit of a basement feel and is only accessible by an outer door - you have to go outside and either walk around or take a winding metal staircase. It’s also right near the “highway” - a small water passage that is heavily used. I would find it too loud and exposed. Also the “pool” is probably the smallest pool I have ever seen, but would be excellent for small children!! Sweetwater and Blue moon are the neighbors of Linden. During our stay they were both empty, but even if they weren’t I doubt we would have heard and certainly not seen people. They are very similar but Sweetwater had a moldy smell in one bedroom. That could be from lack of AC as they were empty after all and conservation is important - but I don’t know. I do know that if we traveled with another couple or two that Blue Moon would be where we stayed. Even more updated than Linden, same view as Linden, and very similar amenities. Just lovely!! Starlight and Seabreeze are “sister” villas, apparently identical. They are composed of three “pods” one pod for dinning/kitchen/living (and the only TV) and the other two pods are bedrooms with private baths. The communal pod is in the middle. We saw one as we made friends with the group staying there, the one closest to the central club house. It was “island style.” It was not updated like Linden or Blue Moon and had a very beachy feel. It was very cool, but not what I would have wanted. My husband loved the more natural beach vibe though! Our new friends were much more into socializing than us and didn’t mind that they could hear the staff from the nearby staff houses, and their neighbors. That would be a hard no for me. HILL HOUSE/CLUB HOUSE: Just as the pictures show - beautiful, with a few fireplaces and a pool table that we used every night!! Only change I would make is to let guests chose different music. It was an island mix every night. The best sunset views!! BOATS: just perfect for us. Cleaned every day for us, loaded with drinks and food - DONT FORGET THE BEACH UMBRELLA!! No hassle and no experience necessary. But do bring your iPhone for the navigation app!! BEACH AREAS: god so wonderful on the island! Like I said, the place was only half full, so it felt like our own beach. Kayaks and paddle boards to use. Unfortunately the hobie cats were not operable when we were there, which my husband was very disappointed in. OTHER: tennis courts were great!! Golf carts were awesome!! Please get a massage in your room. Sandy has the most amazing, calming presence. She loves to chat and I was worried she might want to talk with the massage - she didn’t. Instead it was deeply relaxing and soul calming. All set up in our room, with candles and music and wonderful oil essences. It’s an extra cost, but I say it’s not a vacation to scrimp on and this is a MUST!! Cons: DINNER: If I had to say anything that could be improved it would be the dinner quality and the selection. I read all the reviews before our trip and there were rave reviews of the food. I recognize everyone has different tastes - me, I’m a more bland eater. I don’t like very sweet food, nor food with a lot of sauce (I generally eat salad without dressing, to give you an idea), I also don’t really care for seafood..... I know I’m on an island! While the food was decent, dinner was most often covered in some kind of sweet sauce. Whether it was chicken, beef or lamb, it all came loaded with sauce and sweet sauces at that, which is just not my thing. I did catch on by night three and asked for plain grilled chicken and was accommodated, which was very much appreciated. My husband tried a variety of seafood and thought it was all just “OK.” So for me, it would have been nice to have more savory options and less sweetness to the dinner meals. The villa is stocked though, as I note above, with familiar name brand foods and we very much enjoyed packing our lunches for the day - and making eggs to eat out in the veranda each morning. WINE: For the price, I do feel the most let down on the wine selection. It was awful. Low quality “Sandals” branded wine. If you like good quality wine, figure out a way to bring your own. Also, the Prosecco, which was decent, was an EXTRA charge, and that was disappointing, again, considering the price. The rest of the alcohol is nice and the bartender makes some yummy cocktails!!

My wife and I just got back from spending a week at Fowl Cay (pronounced Key). It was the most unique tropical/beach vacation we have ever been on. We’ve been to Hawaii (multiple times), Cabo, Jamaica, Nassau, Punta Cana, Cancun, Caribbean, Florida Keys, but this experience is different. The biggest reason, is the freedom that the boat they provide you allows for, but its not the only reason. For our trip, we flew into Nassau, then flew to Staniel Key via Flamingo Air. I had read some negative reviews about Flamingo, but our experience was fine. The flight was on time and everything worked out well. Just realize it’s a 14 seat, small plane. Upon arriving at Staniel Key, we were met by Jared, who took us on a five-minute boat ride to Fowl Key. We stayed in the Sea Breeze. Since there was only two of us, we had more than enough room. While the villas aren’t brand new, everything was clean and very nice. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The kitchen and pantry were stocked with everything we would need, both food and drinks. On our first day, we had a short orientation on the boat and boating rules, then Jarod took us out for a 30-minute ride. Overall it took me a couple of days to get really comfortable with the boat and navigating the waters, but after that we felt really comfortable. At times we traveled as far as 15 miles north of Fowl Cay and 30 miles south of Fowl Cay. We spent between 5 and 6 hours each day on the water. We did most if not all of the recommended attractions – we fed the swimming pigs (multiple times), we swam with the nurse sharks at Compass Cay Marina, we fed the iguanas, we snorkeled Thunderball Grotto, we swam in Rachael’s bubble bath, we saw the green sea turtles at Farmers Cay, went deep sea fishing and more. The best time we had was finding a deserted beach and having lunch. Each day, the staff had our picnic lunch in a cooler, a separate cooler with drinks, a beach umbrella, beach chairs and snorkel gear loaded in our boat. We found six different deserted beaches to sit out, eat, lay in the sun and listen to music and relax. The food was very good, we really liked the lunches – fresh tuna sandwich, lobster salad sandwich, crab salad sandwich, grouper fingers, etc., chips, fresh vegetables and homemade cookies. We also loved the seafood at dinner. During our stay, only three of the six villas were occupied, so we shared the island with 6 other people, and really enjoyed cocktail hour, where we shared stories of the day’s adventures. Things you must bring – 1. Water shoes with good soles, there are some sharp and rocky areas on the deserted beaches. 2. Speaker to play music on the deserted island and in the villa (we didn’t turn the TV on once during the week). 3. Solar battery charger, it come in handy to charge the iPhone on the deserted beach. Fowl Cay provides a iPhone per villa, with a tide app, weather app, and wind app. 4. Lots of sunscreen. 5. Download the Navionics app on your iPhone, it will help a lot with plotting courses and identify the depth of the waters. Finally, the staff were the nicest and most helpful as a group, that I’ve ever encountered. To name a few, Lamont was a great bartender with excellent suggestions, Anthario was great as a villa host – he got us any and everything we wanted, Sandra was so nice making sure everything was good and making e sure that our dinner selections were in, Grant, Jared, and Adonis provided suggestions on where to go, depending on winds and tides. Everyone was so helpful. We normally don’t go back to the same resorts, as there are new places that I’d rather see, however Fowl Cay is one place that we do plan to return to.

I was looking for a place without the crowds secluded beaches and friendly staff and fowl cay has it all. I was here in the off season and I stayed in Lindon villa so quiet and beautiful I took the boat or kayak every day to a secluded beach where i snorkeled and found amazing shells. The food was amazing and the staff is very friendly they bring you anything you need they go out their way to make sure you have what you need.. So many amazing places to see nearby in the boat from pig beach to the fish aquarium. I recommend getting the navionics app for the boat and an extra battery bring plenty of sunscreen. If you like peace and relaxation this is the place to go in such a beautiful setting.
