We stayed at Fowl Cay 1/28-2/5 and it was one of the best vacations I have ever had! I do not prefer returning to places I have been, however this is a place I would love to return to! Simply stated - a paradise and hidden gem! We loved the autonomy of having our own boat, golf cart and personalized plan for the day. I have never seen such an infinite amount of crystal clear turquoise water and pristine sand. We were a group of 2 couples and we stayed in Birdcage. While it is beautiful, the lower level bedroom has no view (not a complaint, just a reality). I would recommend starlight or sea breeze villas for 2 couples traveling together. The service exceeded our expectations as did the food and beverages, especially for being on a small private island. It was apparent that everyone behind the scenes who we did not meet were critical to our amazing experience including those who prepared our boat each day, housekeeping, the grounds crew etc. Everything was immaculate. Those we did meet include Allan and Ana who clearly care about their guests as well as their team. They were very knowledgeable in planning a safe and adventurous itinerary each day for us. Chef Lin was exceptional with preparing a masterpiece meal each evening with all of our favorite foods (filet mignon, ribeye, short ribs, lamb, lobster, red snapper, mahi mahi, grouper, shrimp salad). He was also very accommodating to our gluten free preferences. We have traveled for 17+ years and have never had this quality of food with such beautiful presentation, amazing flavor and generous portions. We appreciated him visiting our table each night to confirm our satisfaction but more importantly so we could meet him. While many recommend the packed picnic, we switched over and preferred to have lunch at the resort before going out on the boat, because the service and quality was so amazing. Bartender “T” is one of a kind with his skills at creating custom or “craft” cocktails. He and Chef Lin are truly gifted. T’s cocktails are “works of art” and he is so friendly and personable. Our server “Nishe” and our villa host Melony were also exceptional. We told them they are all “over achievers” - so friendly, outgoing, attentive to detail. We were impressed with how great the care/service was without being intrusive or disruptive. The staff all appear genuinely happy and work well together as an amazing team. The camaraderie was evident and made for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Petra and Cuba arrived later during our stay and are apparently “new” but you would never know that as they jumped right in and were eager to help out. They are clearly experienced in the hospitality industry and so personable, happy and helpful. Restaurant manager Reggie is a perfectionist and an amazing manager. He has all of the qualities one would want in a manager: eager to help out, friendly and attentive to detail. I am only sorry that I can’t remember everyone’s names, but we thank you all so much for an incredible vacation. We are truly grateful and would love to return because of our amazing experience provided by the whole team. …
Had a magnificent week in one of the 3 bedroom villas at Fowl Cay. From the moment Pete met us at Staniel Cay, he, Steph & team could not have been more attentive to our needs. Massive thanks to them all, in particular Monique, Tario, Reggie, Marvin & the ever welcoming island labrador Rosie. We adored independently exploring the Exumas on our very own resort owned boat, plenty to do and see (pig beach, nurse sharks, turtles, iguanas, snorkelling to name but a few). It was all the more beautiful than we had ever imagined. Waterskiing and wake boarding also enjoyed, along with kayaking and paddle boarding. Magnificent tailored picnics for days out, breakfast requirements brought to our own fully stocked villa every morning which included all the usual comfortable, luxurious amenities. Fabulous cocktails every evening at the Hill House followed by a delicious 3 course dinner with meat, fish & vegetarian options every night. Wonderful all inclusive resort so a joy not to have to get the credit card out unless opting for hire of a jet ski or day trip out on a fishing boat. We could not recommend Fowl Cay more highly and so hope to return one day! Thank you so much to all the team for a truly memorable holiday.…
Our favorite vacation we've ever taken, hands down. Some tips below. PROS - Yes, it's expensive. You're renting a private villa (we rented the Starlight, which sits above the cay and has 360 degree views, the best villa on the island and I'd rather lie to you about it to keep it free for our own selfish future use), you have your own private attendant, a chef packs your lunch every day, and you get a powerboat with a single outboard motor. You will not get this type of freedom, privacy, and attention to needs anywhere else. You're going to a private island and your immediate inaccessibility from the rest of the world is part of what you're paying for, so remember that and enjoy it! - The powerboats are cleaned up and topped off daily for your personal use - You choose your lunch the night before and your dinner the morning of. The staff packs your lunch choices in your cooler (should you choose to each lunch somewhere along your travels, which I strongly recommend), along with drinks and snacks, and they double check it. I wanted rum punch every day and the staff made sure we had rum punch every day in our cooler - You will not find friendlier staff anywhere else. These are people who love what they do and it shows. The staff goes above and beyond to make every aspect of your stay enjoyable, even turning the meal's amuse bouche into a competition to guess the ingredients. Any question you may have they are prepared to answer. - Each house is given a phone so you can remain in contact with your house's private attendant - Food is absolutely top-notch and the chef super amenable to dietary requests if you have them. We are super-foodies and wine aficionados and had not a single complaint about the preparation of the food, choice of sauces, seasonings, or wine selection - Each house has its own gold cart to traverse the island -- which is beautifully landscaped - The island has a gift shop with sunblock, hats, etc - The staff provides you with a very helpful and mandatory instructional session before letting you loose with the boat CONS - I do wish there was a depth pole on the boats, but it's not a deal breaker. Just be smart and keep your eyes open - This isn't the fault of the resort, but you do have to keep wits about you with some of the larger tourist boats ferrying people from more populated areas to points of interest in the Exumas. Not all, but some, simply have no regard for maritime rules and will think nothing of trying to overtake you. This recklessness poses more danger than any dangerous wildlife potentially in the waters, in my opinion TIPS - As others have said, the Navionics app is a must. Absolutely brilliant for navigating around the islands and other users mark interesting waypoints. I'd start each day mapping out our journey to and from which made it easy - We brought a phone holder to stick on the boat's dash so we didn't have to hold it all of the time - Bring a solar-powered battery, or a basic mag charge (if you've an iPhone) as the Navionics app will eat your battery life before you can return to the resort. This is a must - You don't necessarily need a ton of boating experience -- all of ours has come from lakes and fishing, but it does help. Remember that the area is relatively shallow with a few deeper points and you're on the western side - Bring water shoes. Flip-flops are irrelevant and many of the places you will want to go are rocky with dead coral - If you're worried about how much sunblock to bring don't worry, the resort shop has a bunch of every SPF available in various forms - Take advantage of the cocktail hour before dinner every night. It's a great way to meet others, play pool, board games, and relax before your meal - Definitely have a drink and conch fritters at Staniel Cay - Visit Farmer's Cay and swim with the turtles. It's about a 40 minute boat ride and worth it. Have a drink at the restaurant after and visit the gift shop. Bring your snorkel gear and prepare to get awesome photos - Swim with the sharks in Compass Cay - AVOID PIG BEACH. I have no idea why it's Insta-worshipped, because there are far more beautiful beaches all around you. It's smelly, the pigs defecate right by you in the water, and one guest told us that a bird had dropped pig feces on her 7 year-old's head, so they left pretty quick. They can also be aggressive - Ask the staff about Sandy Cay or the sand bars that pop during low tide. These things are why you're there and worth it…
One of the nicest vacations we have ever taken. Stayed in the Birdcage house for 8 nights....lovely home---just perfect in every detail---views amazing from this house. Service was just outstanding. Having a boat to take out every day---made the week for us--that is what my wife and I love to do---explore and hang out just ourselves. Ana, Alan, and Stef took care of every detail and are some of the nicest people that we have ever met on our travels. Making plans already to visit again in November 2023!!!
If you are lucky enough to be used to luxury vacations, this will only be mediocre to meh for you. If you have never or rarely been on a truly luxury vacation, this will be pretty good but not perhaps not perfect, depending on what you are looking for. The villas are beautiful and the island itself is beautiful, however, the villas are older and they are showing their age in small ways - again, if you don't typically go on true luxury vacations, you likely won't notice, however, if you do, you definitely will. There's another review that mentions mildew smell - things like that; water damage, staining, wear and tear, that sort of thing. It's fine for a lower priced property but for this price tag, you would expect more. We are big nature lovers and we were disappointed by the lack of wildlife - likely due to overfishing and poor trash control. They give you your own little motor boat with each villa, which sounded great except that - errr - some people really should not be given their own motor boat; they were crashing into things and just generally behaving badly, which is probably another reason the waters here are devoid of life. Overall, I give it one star because I wouldn't stay again or recommend. There are many private islands with private villas in this world with top class staff and amenities. Comparing them with this, I'm just left with a meh. It would have been nice to see the management make some efforts towards preserving and protecting the beautiful environment they're in. I didn't see any. More the opposite.…
Absolutely loved my stay at Fowl Cay and will definitely return! The location within the Exuma Cays is perfect for boating, snorkeling, or having a picnic on a sandbar at low tide. The resort looks over at the beach with the “Swimming Pigs”, and is a short boat ride away from Thunderball grotto and the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. You are also easily able to explore the surrounding cays and Pipe Creek, which is one of the most spectacular areas in the Bahamas. The fact that you get your own boat with your villa, which is packed with a cooler and any gear you may desire for the day, is beyond perfect! We had so much fun cruising around and admiring the different hues of turquoise water, which are only found in the Exuma Cays. The staff at Fowl Cay make your stay truly unforgettable and ensure that you have everything you need and more at every turn. I celebrated my birthday while on island, and the staff made it super fun and memorable! The food was also incredible and the chef did a phenomenal job working around food allergies and Celiac Disease. I felt very safe dining at their Hill House restaurant, and the villa was stocked with gluten free items for me, which was very impressive for a remote island. This is hands down one of my favorite resorts in the Bahamas!!!…
Thank you so much to the staff at Fowl Cay for such an amazing vacation experience! My family and I had such a great time staying on the island and we felt welcome from the moment we got there. We stayed in the Sweetwater Villa and were able to enjoy the beach a few steps from our back door and an amazing view of the ocean. We were well taken care of and loved going to dinner at Fowl Cay’s restaurant each night — the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very comfortable. With the one of the boats that Fowl Cay provides for each villa, we were able to visit local attractions such as Pig Beach, Iguana Island, Compass Cay (where we swam with sharks), and more. Thank you again for an awesome vacation and for the excellent quality of service provided. (We stayed at Fowl Cay in May 2021)…
Our family had 3 of the 6 villas - Bird Cage is remarkable. We had a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was very good with nice selections. The bar was very good, and each of our villas were what we were looking for. The snorkeling was remarkable. Our only disappointments were 2 of the 3 boats assigned to our villas. The two smaller boats were 17’3” - one with a 90 hp and one with a 115 hp. They worked fine. However, the winds were a constant probably 14 to 20 miles an hour out of the east. This made those boats uncomfortable (and scary to some) on the longer day trips due to the fact that we would need to cross cuts between cays where the wind was coming in from the ocean. One villa had an 18’3” boat with a 115 hp motor on it which handled these conditions better. It didn’t prevent us from doing trips but caused us to scale them back. Nonetheless, it was a remarkable week for our family.…
From the moment we were greeted at the Staniel Cay airport until we left a week later we were completely taken care of. Anna and Monique run a fabulous place like no other on earth. You do need an adventurous spirit to experience everything. There is so much to experience and the staff will help you in any way you can imagine. Can't say enough about the staff. Marvin, Reggie and "Chef" made every dinner an experience. The actual chef was beyond phenomenal. Went fishing with Bonefish Cliff and the chef prepared our catch in a meal that words can't describe. Special shout out to Mel, even though she was a temporary employee, she helped make our trip special. Still missing Rosie, the resort mascot. We usually visit places once, then move on just because we want to visit as many places as we can. However, we will be back to Fowl Cay.…
Looking forward to going back to this wonderful place with it’s fabulous atmosphere, food and service from incredible staff. Unfortunately paying deposit through Sandals automated system which is the only way possible is almost impossible! It cuts off, claims you’ve attempted something too often. Took several attempts and phone calls over three days. If it wasn’t so good and unique I’d have given up and gone elsewhere, a poor and off putting experience for anyone trying to book for the first time.
