We loved our stay at Tailwinds. Rich is very responsive and responded to all our queries quickly. It’s very easy to get there with the Sky Bahamas flight from Nassau. It’s a really beautiful, well maintained property right on a gorgeous beach. We had the entire white sand beach to ourselves and had a most relaxing time. It's also shaded which is perfect for hot afternoons. Watching that breath taking sun-set with one of Rich’s cocktails is something we can do more often! There are also free kayaks available. It’s a perfect spot to snorkel- we even saw lots of fish while swimming in those clear blue waters. Very close to Man o war beach- it’s a nice little hike to see the northernmost part of the island. Large rooms- very airy and clean and windows open right to the beach. It’s a sight waking up and seeing the beach from your bed. Shower was an enclosed space without roof- incredible experience taking a shower while watching the stars after a fun day at beach. There is an open bar with honor system. Amazing variety and very reasonable prices. Delicious food- both Rich and Misbah are great cooks. We are both vegetarians and did not for a second felt restricted because of that. We were taken very good care of and got to taste some amazing dishes and desserts. We ate all our meals at the resort and enjoyed every single one of them. Rich was kind enough to drive us to supermarket for some groceries. It was an amazing experience to pluck coconuts from the tree and learning how to cut them. It’s not as easy as it looks 😊 Fresh coconut water every day was a treat. Rich and Misbah are both very warm, friendly people. It was like staying at a grandpa’s house who will take really good care of you. We loved the personal touch and enjoyed our conversations. Will totally recommend staying here. Rich is looking to sell this property and retire. He is maintaining and running it impeccably and led to one of the best vacation we’ve ever had. Hopefully- he finds someone who can continue to show the same level of care as he is.

Great little resort on Shannas Bay on the North End of the island. Great location! Stayed for a week and rented a car from Yardie's to bop around the island a few days. The beach is pristine and you can walk for miles or grab a kayak and explore. Saw a few barracuda and rays. Rich has this place for sale and would be a great buy for someone who is looking to run a small resort. Beautiful property and solidly built!

My husband and I visited Cat Island three years ago and we loved the tranquility of the island so much that we decided to go back again, this year. We stayed at a different hotel in 2015, but happened upon Tail Winds and its owner, Rich, at that time. We decided right then if we decided to return, we'd stay at Tail Winds because we liked the villas, as well as Rich. The entire resort is fantastic: well-built, upscale, and right on the beach. Rich was an attentive and generous host who outdid himself to make our vacation wonderful! He is now getting ready to retire and sell the resort and I hope the new owners will be just as accommodating. They'll be getting a great property; Rich was a general contractor who built everything right!

like the popular Bare Naked Ladies song goes, "I'd buy me this beautiful resort" that just came up for sale the week before we arrived. Richie built this resort from the ground up and has maintained it in such incredible condition you'll be amazed to know its the age it is. Located on a spectacular beach in Shanna's Bay, it has views that will mesmerize and hypnotize; the ocean so many beautiful shades of blue and green, where even a cloudy day can best be described as stunning. As wonderful as it was to wake up to such sights each day, we looked forward to the end of the day too, where a spectacular sunset was, more often than not, guaranteed, quickly followed by a magnificent display of the nighttime galaxy above. Our first trip to Cat Island was in Feb 2017 where we stayed in a beach house a short walk from Tailwinds. It was on this visit that we met Richie, eating most of our meals at his resort. We looked forward to returning to the island, so when we saw the "Free flights from Nassau" promotion by BahamaGo, it was all the inspiration needed to make it happen. Richie provided the transport to/from the airport, celebrated our arrival with a free drink, shared with us the first watermelon of the season (oh my goodness, talk about delicious!!), picked us a key lime from a tree out back, entertained as only he can (cover your ears if squeamish with his "colourful" outlook on life....), concocted some delicious dinners, highlights being chicken caesar salad and an enormous lobster dinner served with vegetables from the island, always asking "Everything ok?", made us laugh when he hollered "Hey kids, dinner is ready" (we are only a few years younger than him). His home is your home, the honour bar always open, all the toys at your disposal with snorkelling equipment, kayaks, and beach chairs provided (even bug spray - remember, it's important you use it!!) His loyal and faithful sidekicks, Mispah, keeps the place spotless and serves up delicious breakfasts and lunches, while Joe maintains the beautifully landscaped grounds and whatever else is required to keep the buildings in such great shape. Lunch and drinks at the Tiki Hut are not to be missed while cooling refreshing dips in the small pool welcome from the hot sun. Waking up to and falling asleep to the ocean's sounds is guaranteed at this beach front resort, step right off the deck into the luscious cool sand, where the biggest decision of each day will be do we go right or left or maybe we'll just stay put, in awe of the beauty surrounding us. We stayed in Hanna's Hangar, one of the 2 beach front suites, with beautiful views out the front patio doors, ah, to wake up to that view again!! And who doesn't love an outdoor shower?? The suite comes with everything needed to pull off a few quick meals, outfitted with a fridge, microwave, dishes, glasses and cutlery. It's not a traditional resort in the sense that passers by, intrigued by the look of the place, might stop in to take a look, but then are puzzled when there's no one there to greet them. On 3 occasions, while on the beach, we were approached by other visitors to the area asking "do we own this place?" (ha! I wish), "are we staying here?" and "can we take a look?" where then I'd gleefully take them on a tour, calling out to Richie, "there's people here that wanna buy a drink", sometimes he came out, sometimes not. Being such a small resort with an even smaller staff, it unfortunately does not come across as a welcoming place to "walk-ins". Of course, we've got ideas to fix that, but then again, we'd need a million plus to put them into action ;) To whoever does have the million plus, so Richie can get his wings again, we'll be your first visitors!!

This place is right on the beach and features 4 stand-alone suites. Ours had a private outdoor shower!! (Maybe they all do, but we didn't snoop too much). There is a small, clean pool but you really don't need it because the gorgeous sea is right there! This place had a comforting, "new" feeling to it while still having charm. We rented a car and spent most of each day exploring the island. Coming back to the hotel with the bar and breeze flowing through the dining area was the perfect way to end the day. If we travel to Cat Island again, it is *very* likely that we will stay here again.
