I wrote a review last year about a disappointing visit to Bimini Cove. This year, it is like night and day improvements. The new and much needed landscaping is great, the restaurant and new tiki bar at the infinity pool are awesome, the staff, especially Fritz, at the marina dock, are very friendly and efficient. We rented a unit through VRBO and it was very well stocked and apportioned and the owner extremely responsive and attentive. Only complaint is that the marina docking fee has gone up to $4.50 per foot per night. The marina is still under construction, about 80% complete, seemed stalled, no water or power to most of the docks. New floating docks are top class.

Great experience here! Clean manicured grounds. Great Condo, full kitchen, incredible view. Everyone very accommodating. Had to leave early bc of TS Debbie, couldn’t get a Refund, but did get a full credit. Beautiful pool and bar w/ sandwiches. Looking forward to returning!

We just returned from a 7 day trip to Bimini & stayed at the Sands in an oceanfront room. The view, food, and overall resort area is nice; however, when booking please take caution and try to select the specific room you would like. The first part of our vacation we have coined the vacation from hell; however, the second half of the vacation was decent. We had booked the standard 1 bedroom and were aware of the units being individually owned but figured that there would be a minimum standard by which all rentable rooms had to abide. We were wrong. The first room we were given we thought was clean, but bare. There was no working television, phone, or radio. There were no DVD's or games available (not even a deck of cards or magazines or books). 2 of 3 lights in the living area did not work (which made it too dark to read the magazine we had brought along), the smoke detector battery was dead, and the light in the bathroom did not work. There also was no hot water and the water pressure was not strong enough to wash shoulder-length hair. We literally had to boil water to get warm/hot water. (Our thoughts are that if we are paying just shy of $260/night...we at least want to have amenities that work and we can then decide whether or not to use the T.V., phone, radio, games, books, etc.) To make matters worse, the inhabitant in the unit next to us was hard of hearing and slept with his T.V. on; therefore, we were bombarded with loud T.V. the entire time (day and night). My husband literally had to knock on his door at 2:30 am to tell him to turn down his T.V. because it had awakened us. It was so loud we thought a boat in the marina was having a boat party. We literally slept with the fan on in the bathroom and ear plugs to drown out the noise. No joke---the next morning we asked to change the room and were met by an employee that was inebriated to the point where he could not walk straight and was slurring his speech. Unfortunately, these issues were exacerbated by the weather in which it rained and had 30-40 m.p.h. winds for a couple of days, which meant that everyone was trapped at the hotel because boats were not able to get out on the water and resort guests stayed for additional nights. We had to stay in that hell hole for 3 nights because nothing else oceanfront was available.
Finally after 3 nights and the weather clearing up, additional units became available as guests checked out, we were able to switch units. We switched to unit 1F and it was REALLY nice. So, if you get or request unit 1F you will be in good hands. I did want to say that for whatever reason the day before we were scheduled to check out...the resort must have confused or forgotten that we were in unit 1F because another "guest" had gotten a key for our room and literally walked right into our room around 10 am because he was given that room by the front desk! At least this is the story that the "guest" told us...I hope that it truly was a mix up and not someone that either worked at the hotel or were friends of someone at the hotel and was coming into our room to steal stuff. Needless to say, we didn't venture too far after that happened and we did not notice a safe or anything like that in the room to guard valuables like passports and credit cards.
All of the bad stuff that we encountered, it primarily centered around the 1st room that we had received and stayed in for 3 nights. Once we changed rooms it literally was a good vacation from that point going forward. Just take caution in booking the room you stay in. The resort & marina itself is clean, the ocean view is fantastic, and the food is wonderful & the bread is great. Grant & Katie & Loren in the activities center are fantastic and the nature trail next to the hotel is very nice. Teresa in the Petite Conch was super friendly and Trevia at Mackey's was also great.
We found that South Bimini is the island to stay on if you are interested in the laid back/relaxing vacation type. North Bimini contains nearly all of the hotels and two small towns. Both islands are small enough you can either walk or rent a bike to get around. Bimini Sands has the shuttle bus that will take you anywhere on South Bimini and North Bimini is walkable/ridable by bike.
Be sure to---
1.) Visit & tour the shark lab
2.) Kayak the mangroves & take part in any other activities offered by Grant & Katie.
3.) Try any and all food at Mackey's sand bar (including the pizza...its really good)
4.) Walk the nature trail
5.) Snorkel the private beach just to the left of the hotel that encompasses about a mile. The snorkeling is wonderful as we saw flounder, cuddlefish, and lots of other things. Its in about 3-5 feet of water and right on the beach so it would be perfect for families/kids.
6.) Dive with Bimini Undersea (Troy and all of his employees were great and very professional.)
7.) Take part in Happy Hour from 5-7pm on Friday's at Booze & Screws on the South Island.
8.) Take part in Happy Hour from 5-8pm on Wednesday's at Mackey's & then stay for the live band and karaoke afterwards.
9.) Take bug spray for the no-seams & sand fleas
10.) Tour the Dolphin House & the little museums on the North Island.
11.) Watch the rays & nurse sharks feed & swim in the marina & in the channel to the marina

Response from biminifrank, Owner at Bimini Cove Resort & Marina
Responded May 9, 2012
I was very concerned by this customer's complaints and immediately checked our records. We have onlyone person that rented 3B and 1F simultaneously. We have checked both condos and cannot find any light bulbs missing or burned out. We do not guarentee TV service in each condo. There is a TV in the one bedroom unit but it could only be used to play tapes. Hot water is present in both units.Water pressure is not as high as in the States but we make our own reverse osmosis water and store over 200,000 gallons at all times. If this customer would contact me directly I would like to resolve this matter. Frank J. Cooney

This is a review for the boat slip only - we didn’t not experience the rooms.
Arrived in the afternoon by boat from Miami. There was a security guard who assigned us a spot and helped us tie up. The slips are now old and falling apart due to lack of maintenance (stayed here a couple of times years back when it used to be called Sands). Wood and bumpers around the slips are gone or loose hanging in the water. Electrical connections are either gone or worn out making them a pain to connect and disconnect from.
The gentleman in the office was great but had no authority to check us in. The following morning we checked it with a lady that seemed to hate her job. No sense of hospitality or customer appreciation - makes one feel as a bother to her.
The following day when returning back to our assigned slip, they have assigned it to another boat who tied up on top of our lines and took the electrical outlet we fixed and lubricated. Won’t be coming back here.

I've stayed at Bimini Sand probably a dozen times over the past 15 years. A few times I've rented from the developer and most times from private owners. For this trip, I rented from the developer and need to express some major disappointments I had with the marina and unit 14K in Bimini Cove. I communicated the following things with the reservation office on site after the first night (of 4), but nothing was done to correct them:
loft shower didn't work. no water. 4 of us had to share 1 bathroom.
loft toilet ran constantly. bad flapper.
kitchen left sink didn't drain. garbage disposal smelled of electrical fire when switch turned on, but didn't work.
couldn't figure out how to get the TV working. no instructions provided.
Additional items that missed my expectations:
the A/C air handler is extremely noisy and woke me up at night frequently. additionally, the ductwork vibrated in the bedroom, adding more noise.
no basic cooking utensils in the kitchen, like spatula or spoon
no dishwater or clothes washer detergent provided, and only 1 garbage bag,
no details about the unit, what to bring, photos, furnishings, etc. were provide or available prior to our arrival.
docks were in terrible condition. rub rails falling off, bolts and large nails exposed. this was the case in front of building 14 and across from fuel dock where we temporarily docked to clear customs & immigration. water valves and meters corroded and unusable.
check out was a slow, paperwork intensive, and inefficient process.
the infinity pool cabana was never open when we were on the property Wed-Sun. We were on boat during the daytime, but back by 5:30-6:00 pm each day. Closed. Kids wanted a virgin pina colada. Had to take them to Big Game...
For the money we are spending to stay there, I'd expect better. After a dozen stays there, I'm not sure I'll be coming back with all the other options available. Wish I had photos of the docks.

I got ripped off getting gas. They don't zero the pumps back between patrons... on purpose. Day 1 $288. On Day 4, I needed the same amount of gas and it was $464. Don't trust them. The rooms and bedding were outdated and not clean. Our overall townhome was just gross. If they put some money in this place they could do so much better.

Not unit number listed in the reservation, I was given the wrong door code and couldn’t get into the unit until 8pm. The front office closed at 5pm and neither the unit owner or his responded to any calls or emails. Only an influential friend finally got a correct door code. Unit 1B was a mess. Bed was unmade and slept in. No toilet paper and cabinet doors in bathroom falling off. Used paper towels in kitchen and bathroom linens still dirty. At $235 a night it’s a disgrace.

The hotel is over priced and the staff is lazy and don’t try to resolve any problem. My shower did not have a door and everything was getting wet. Checking in is talking to a program robot NO & I CAN NOT is the common answer and they don’t answer the phone is better to call Hilton in the US

I've been coming to Bimini by boat now for thirty years, pre-dating the building of Bimini Sands. As I've watched so much of the Bimini I remember and loved disappear (the burning down of the Compleat Angler, decline in fishing and the loss of beaches and natural beauty due to the unmitigated development disaster on North Bimini there was one shining light: Bimini Sands. The amenities were excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the size of the development in line with the size and atmosphere of Bimini. There was nothing to complain about. That's all changing now. It seems that the American partner who made all this possible has been ousted by the controlling Bahamian partner and the upper level management staff either fired or soon to be fired. I knew this before coming over last week and wondered what I would see different. As for a detailed description of changes I can't offer them because upon arrival I experienced all I needed to know and quickly left the place. As is usual I arrived from Florida, went to the office and requested the usual Immigration and Customs forms - four photocopied sheets and two immigration cards, handed out free upon arrival all of my life. As soon as the office knew that I wasn't staying in their marina they charged me $30 for the forms plus the new $2.60 VAT for a total of $32.60. Already knowing that the owners were slashing personnel to cash in I was incensed at this petty little money grab. I paid it, went out to the airport to clear Customs, got in my boat and left. I have friends in Bimini who let me stay at their place so I didn't need to stay in the Bimini Sands marina but for years I have bought fuel there, bait, food, ice, drinks and eaten in both of their restaurants, often to the tune of a couple hundred dollars a night. As of this trip I have spent exactly $32.60 with Bimini Sands and next trip I won't be getting any Customs paperwork from them. They lost a whole bunch more than the $32.60 they extorted out of me.
I want to remind Bimini Sands with their nickel and diming and the Bahamian government with their new VAT tax that Cuba will open soon at which time I and others will point our boats south instead of east and watch Bimini dry up and blow away. You are doing it to yourselves.

Response from BiminiSandsResort, Guest Relations Manager at Bimini Cove Resort & Marina
Responded Apr 15, 2017
Hi Bimini Bill, Very late in responding here at the Sands, we have been undergoing some positive changes! The home owners assumed responsibilty of property managemnt this past April 1. We have chosen a company focused on customer service! As to the forms, they are n/c for guests of Bimini Sands and a nominal charge for non guests of approx. $10 bucks, some one needs to pay for ink and paper, right? Hope to see you soon.

Beds are cheap and squeek. No cable TV, charged a resort fee on top of the $400 a night hotel fee, charged an additional fee for using the water to take a shower. There are many different places to go in the Bahamas, this place was exceptionally disappointing.
