I don't want to write another praising review, there are already enough of it. Just simple facts: We stayed with Doug for 4 nights and we just felt like staying with a good local friend. We had a whole house for ourselves. We went snorkeling/fishing with Doug whenever we wanted. We kept eating fish, conch and lobsters all time just because it is the most accesible food around. We drank plenty of rum and wine together. We learned how to clean and steam a conch. We stayed a day longer free of charge because our ferry got cancelled. We talked and laughed for hours. I wore Doug's t-shirts, shirts and flipflops because my luggage got delayed for 2 days. The only thing we regret is that we didn't meet Jemma and Suslin since they were both ill. Well....we just had a wonderful time and we already plan to get back as soon as we can. And yes, it has some downsides - it is just like when you visit your friend in his mountain cabin. It's somewhat spartan. Although when I think of it. You get a huge bedroom with private terrace, private bathroom, delicious breakfast and dinner and sometimes even lunch, open bar downstairs, concierge service, a limo with private driver....well it's difficult to complain.…
Weather was good for our early morning crossing from Miami on our 33' boat. Suslin & Jemma meet us on the dock behind the house with coffee & apple pancakes ready. We had free dockage & Very easy to get to the Gulf Stream. 1 Mile or less,, Suslin that afternoon took the 4 of us to her favorite yellow tail reef, she loves to fish with a hang line. We had fresh fish, lobster & peas rice for dinner. Jemma her daughter was our tour guide for the weekend showing us North & South Bimini by golf cart. We had breakfast & fresh seafood everyday of our stay. Thanks Suslin Jemma, & Doug.
Our Kansas family traveled to Florida and took the ferry to Bimini. We were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay that offered a few amenities. Because of Doug, our family of 6 was able to snorkel, pet stingrays, explore the island, enjoy seafood on a budget all while getting to learn about and experience Bimini culture. He was great with our four kids and kept us entertained with stories of his life and life on Bimini. His vast knowledge of the area and people made the trip extra special. Doug is a great cook and went above and beyond to provide us with food. Doug gave us opportunities that we wouldn't have found elsewhere on the islands. His house may not be a 5 star resort but we wouldn't have wanted to stay in Bimini any other way.
Doug's B&B is a great place to relax and enjoy an authentic Bimini vacation! My husband and I loved the islands, people, and abundance of beautiful beaches and vistas. The ocean is literally right across the street. We found the B&B quiet, clean, and very peaceful.
Doug is a practically a Bimini native. Having lived on the island for over 30 years, he has come to know nearly every local on the island and has absorbed the culture like you wouldn't believe; and this shows in his hospitality. Freshly home cooked breakfasts and dinners everyday, the nicest and most secluded view on both islands and a smile and a million hilarious stories and good company to boot. When you account for all the amenities included in Doug's place along with the day of boating activity, his B & B is an absolute steal. Cannot advocate for staying with him enough and it makes absolute sense why he has nothing less than a five star rating. Do yourself a favor and stay with him!
