All of the positive reviews are accurate - this is a wonderful place with absolutely incredible staff. I can't imagine there being a better group of instructors to do your first dive with. We appreciated the fact that while there are plenty of guided activities, exploration is also encouraged and maps, kayaks and bikes are available. We really enjoyed all of the stories we heard from the different staff members and the debates about the type of snapper hanging out under the dock. We learned so much on this trip and enjoyed every minute of it. Our 17-year-old son said it was the best week of his life. You really can't beat that.

We stayed here for 5 nights during kids spring break from school. We love to travel off the beaten path, and we discovered Andros Island while doing some research into the Bahamas online. We are so happy we chose this place, and getting there is also half the fun. From the friendly staff, to the expert dive instructors, to the helpful advice and guidance of the owner, we all had a wonderful time, and that's saying a lot when traveling with 2 teenagers! It is not your typical tourist destination. There is a lot to do and see here, if you love nature, or just want to relax too, take a hot tub on the beach after a nice leisurely swim in the azure colored ocean. We biked to jump into the nearby blue hole, kayaked around the ocean, spent a few hours on an island snorkeling, did a fascinating night snorkel right out at the dock, and saw so so much incredible ocean life!! We also learned how to scuba dive for the first time, thanks to the patience of professional divers who taught us the basics. It is not cheap, but worth every penny, and really was an experience we would love to repeat one day. Our room was comfortable, clean, well furnished with a good supply of drinking water. The food was all fresh, and beautifully presented, and lots to choose from. Try the Bahama breakfast specials! It was fun to hang out with the other guests during cocktail hour, enjoying the delish conch fritters. We stopped at the Androsia batik store on the way back to the airport, highly recommend!

Hi Andrea! Wow, I'm so happy you had fun. Especially the kids! It is high praise indeed when teenagers enjoy a family vacation. We like to think that adults can fall into the swing at Small Hope and enjoy themselves relatively fast but when you see a teenager or kid not even noticing the lack of internet or TV then you know something is right! That's what we strive for- to give people the chance to tune it all out and turn into nature. You did everything- exploring below and above the water, Androsia, Blue Holes, Kayaking, conch frittering.... Andros has a little something for everyone. I certainly do hope you come back- next time maybe instead of a night snorkel we'll get you out on a night dive!

We had a great family vacation. Loved everything from playing ping pong and checkers with the kids, to the laid back family atmosphere. Great place to unplug and chill. A couple minor issues.... I wish they had separate snorkeling trips to the diving trips. The emphasis is clearly on diving and the snorkeling is really an afterthought. The second issue (which I don't really fault the resort for) was when I got home, I was covered in bites from sand fleas that took about 2-3 weeks to go away. I'd never had anything so bad before and it put a real damper on an otherwise good experience.

Hi! So glad the whole family had fun. I got to grow up at Small Hope, and my children also, so seeing so many families get to relax and unwind in the same environment is something I love. Everybody needs to disconnect from the bustle of everyday and just enjoy each other's company now and then! Whether it's taking the kids out in nature everyday or enjoying time together at night- Small Hope is about everyone in the family having fun. Our games room is built around that idea- board games, chess and checkers, jenga, pingpong and a space for kids (and young at heart adults) to run wild while adults can have a more civilized cocktail hour or meal in the lounge nearby. For snorkeling - we try to arrange it so that the first boat out has a perfect snorkeling site on its second stop. And then of course all the excellent shore snorkeling- around our dock, the mangroves or a day trip to Goat Key where you can slip off on side to the barrier reef and the other the sheltered turtle grass flats. For those sandflies they come out for a few hours at dusk and then at dawn on those days where we have no wind and while we have sprays at the Lodge to help it depends so much on the weather and everyone's sensitivity. I hope those memories you guys made here go forward with you and maybe we'll see you again!

First of all, if you are looking for a marble tiled bathroom, complimentary bathrobe, 250 channels with HBO, or an extensive wine menu and if you don't really want to talk to other guests while on vacation, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are like us and are happy with rustic accommodations that are clean and comfortable, and enjoy meeting new people, then please continue reading. OK so imagine summer camp on pristine water with twice daily UNBELIEVABLE snorkeling or scuba diving, ultra friendly and helpful staff and delicious food and you'll start to get an idea of what to expect here. Rooms are very simple but comfortable. You can ask for AC to be turned on but we never needed it in late April. Fans were plenty and I even required an extra blanket one night. Lunch and dinner are all family style where the chef prepares buffet style fresh and delicious food. Have picky eaters? No worries, they are happy to prepare something just for them. There is so much history and tradition at this family owned lodge and we enjoyed every bit of it! We ate dinner and lunch on the outdoor patio where all guests mingled and got to know one another and relived the events of the day. Again, if you don't like people this may not be the place for you! At the end of dinner everyone watched the awesome videos taken by the dive instructors of the day's dive and snorkel trips and learned about their coral propagation program. You left truly feeling like part of the family. It was such an amazing experience. We made some great friends during our trip and have already scheduled our return trip next year. Most of their guests are return visitors which really says a lot. I cannot recommend this place enough.

I'm so glad you had a great trip. It sounds like Small Hope was the perfect place for you. When my father built it so many years ago it was with the exact idea of being an intimate, comfortable nature lodge. I don't think we could have kept it in the family while still enjoying what we do every day if we weren't able to build this kind of environment where guests become friends and friends become family. It's fun for all of us too! I'm glad you enjoyed our food- our kitchen team puts a lot of work into it to make sure that we have fresh, delicious food with local seafood and local produce whenever we can. And our dive staff puts a lot of thought into making sure everyone has a fun, safe time and gets their turn as the 'movie star' of the night. The best thing is that as the resort is so small and Andros has so many beautiful natural attractions you can be as alone as you want. Imagine, snorkeling a barrier reef with not a boat in site- you can on Goat Key! Or, take along your new friends. It's all easy. We'll keep the conch fritters hot, and the drinks cold until you come back!
